Bearcats cage Tigers 62-0

On a perfect Friday night for football, Spencerville' Bearcats sent their varsity squad to Waynesfield-Goshen for a rumble with the home standing Tigers.

Looking to pick up momentum and confidence heading into homecoming next weekend against conference foe Columbus Grove, the Bearcats were fired up from the time they got off the bus and showed it when the game started.

The home crowd saw the Tigers come out looking a little flat as their starting quarterback was a third string freshman, after their star senior quarterback broke his ankle in a game last weekend and will be out for the season.

The bad news continued for Waynesfield when the Bearcats got the ball for their opening drive, and fullback Eli Waltz pounded into the endzone to give the Cats a 6-0 advantage before Senior Joel Lee added the PAT to make it 7-0 Spencerville. Waynesfield and Spencerville traded a couple of punts, and then the Bearcats Senior Running Back Lee found paydirt himself, this time from 1 yard out before he added the PAT himself to up the score to 14-0 in favor of the visitors. The first quarter ended with the score Spencerville 14, Waynesfield 0.

If the home crowd thought the Bearcats put on a show in the opening stanza, they were in for a shock as the Cats continued their dominance of the Tiger line in the second period. Lee, who had a career day pounded through the Tiger defense this time for a 43 yard touchdown run, but missed the PAT wide left to make it 20-0. Waynesfield continued to give the ball right back to Spencerville just like they had done in the first quarter, and the Cats continued to capitalize on it as Lee once again thundered into the endzone, his third of the game from 85 yards, and Eli Waltz ran it in for 2 to make it 28-0. Lee was not done, as he added his fourth just a few minutes later from 8 yards out on a dive play to make it 35-0 after he added the PAT. Neither team scored for the rest of the half, as Spencerville led the home team 35-0 at intermission.

Beginning the second half, it seemed as if the game was way out of reach, and that is a fair assessment, but it got worse for the Tigers. Spencerville back Waltz scampered in from 80 yards as Spencerville continued the onslaught, and Lee added the PAT to up the score to 42-0. After a fumble and a couple of punts, the visitors Super Senior Running Back Lee added his fifth touchdown run, this time blasting through the defensive line to scamper 68 yards to paydirt. He also added the extra point to make the score 49-0 as the third quarter drew close to the end. 49-0 after three in favor of Spencerville.

By the fourth quarter, most of the Spencerville JV and Freshmen were getting some playing time, but that didnt stop them from scoring, as Sophomore and JV RB Jordan Zimmerman ripped through the Tiger D for a 10 yard td run to up the score, and Lee added a PAT to make it 56-0. A few minutes later, after another Waynesfield fumble, Spencerville added one last nail in the Tiger coffin as Zimmerman rumbled in from 60 yards as time expired to make the score 62-0. There was no PAT because the referees would not allow it, so the 62-0 score was a the final.
