St. Thomas Aquinas flashes past Akron East
St. Thomas Aquinas 14 Akron East 0
It was a strange weekend for football across the state of Ohio, as rain, thunder and lightning delayed and postponed hundreds of games. STA-Akron East was originally slated for Thursday night, but was pushed back to Friday after a violent thunderstorm rolled across NE Ohio Thurs. night. On Friday, the game was delayed by another thunderstorm, but was finally completed around midnight on Friday.
The weather surely affected the play of both teams. STA's defense had a good outing, but the offense struggled to move the ball. The Knights' two scores came on a first half TD pass of 18 yards from sophomore QB Jason Chessler to junior WR Kyrone Jackson. Aquinas scored again in the fourth quarter after the long delay on a 49 yd. run by senior RB Kevin Host.
The STA Knights will face defending D-V state champ Bedford Chanel next Saturday. Chanel, who lost 25 seniors off their undefeated team last year, dropped their first game to Hubbard 7-0.
