Thoughts on the PTC this year? I believe 2 time defending champ Ravenna was hit hard by graduation. Do they have the talent to 3-peat? Kent and Norton should be viable contenders. Can Crestwood or Streetsboro make a run at the title, and where does Field fit into the equation? Coventry and Springfield look to still be rebuilding. Lots of questions, anyone have any answers?

The PTC Metro is not real clear right now.

Ravenna is a 3 years in a row defending champ so they already have the 3-peat. A 4th year will be difficult as they lost much in graduation and their best junior guard transferred to Kent so she could play soccer on a winning team.

Here's my preseason rankings:
1- Norton - return two top seniors scorers and reportedly got a big sophomore move in from Copley.
2- Kent - Have the best bigs and with the junior from Ravenna may be able to break the jinx that Norton has over them.
3- Ravenna - They greet a freshman class that was undefeated two years running in the middle school and they have one of the very best coaches in the league. All of this may not be enough to get another first place finish.
4- Crestwood - They have the youngsters to come knocking at the door but probably don't have the depth of a Kent or Norton.
5- Field - They lost the big girl that kept them respectable and must rebuild.
6- Coventry - They could vault ahead a couple of places but many questions remain.
7- Streetsboro - Similar to Coventry probably lacks the depth of talent needed to make a serious run.
8- Springfield - A bottom dweller who is far from the top teams.

Who left Ravenna for Kent? Also, the transfer from Copley to Norton did not materialize. I am impressed with your insider knowledge though

The younger Fortson girl left Ravenna for Kent. I heard about Norton getting a transfer during summer play and that is not always reliable. That is why I said "reportedly". If Norton did not get a big sophomore move-in then I would have to switch Kent to number one and Norton to number two. Sooner or later the enrollment numbers could swing the advantage in PTC Metro girls basketball to Kent. The rest of the teams are all fairly close to the 300 mark for girls while Kent has over 450.

No real surprises here. Norton looks to hold on to its position as the favorite as the league's top team. Ravenna is in the middle of a youth movement which means a rebuilding year. Crestwood, Streetsboro and Coventry all held their own to start things off.

Kent opened with a 58 to 55 loss to Jackson. A decent showing on a night when I heard they were not at full strength. A sophomore named Rock had 25 from the forward position. This is interesting since she was a guard with very good shooting ability who now has grown into a post player. The league will not be able to overlook her.

or Streetsboro vs Tallmadge - My sources tell me that Tallmadge won by about 10 points. Tallmadge goes to Ravenna on Saturday which will make things a little clearer.

Tallmadge won 39-29, but were up 39-21 when JV team entered game with about 2:00 to go (JV team is horrendous for Tallmadge)

Also, Tallmadge beat Ravenna today 36-30

Norton shows good depth and is the team to beat in the league right now. Ravenna has too many turnovers and have been out rebounded in their losses - their young kids need to grow up in a hurry.

Not sure that this is so much a statement by Ravenna as it is an indication that Streetsboro belongs in the bottom half of the league.

Field has established themselves as a contender by beating both Kent and Crestwood. I still feel Norton has the best team but could it be that Field has the best chance to challenge the Panthers?

At this stage of the young season Field and Coventry are the biggest positives surprises along with Springfield's improved offense. Kent may jump up if they get their all league big girl back in the lineup soon.
