Article: Centerville Beat Fairmont 17-13
In a game surprisingly dominated by both teams' defense, the Elks capitalize on two second half special team mistakes to come back and defeat the Firebirds, 17-13. Fairmont(1-5, 0-1), largely due to the play of their QB/K, Tom West, took a lead of 13-0 into the half, with Damon Baughns scoring on a short TD run, and West kicking 2 field goals of 37 and 40 yards. Centerville(4-2, 1-0) turned the tables in the second half due to two costly mistakes by the punt teams. The first mistake was a snap that sailed over the punter's head, which lead to a short TD by QB Jimmy Brooks for the Elks, and the second one was on a booming punt by Elk punter, Andrew Ganz that the punt returner tried to field after it had hit the ground and was recovered by Centerville's Kyle Wenning and led to another short Brooks TD. Jason Kaczala added a 38 yard field goal in between the TDs to give you a 17-13 final. Fairmont will look to rebound at Springfield next week against the Panthers, while the Elks will look win their fifth in a row and to slow down the explosive offense of Northmont at home.
