Any word on any results from this weekend, I think there were some good matchups in mason, excited to see Ohio cup this weekend, who are the favorites?
USAWP announced their 2011-2012 Academic All-Americans yesterday. Moose Water Polo had 4 players selected - Mitchell Connor (Milford), Adam Darwiche (Sycamore), Stephen Ioas (Sycamore), and Cameron Young (St. Xavier).
First time we have had any Moose players selected for this honor!
To qualify for the USAWP Academic All-American honors, you must be a USAWP member, and have participated in a national event (ODP, J.O. Qualifier, or J.O., etc).
Some very good matchups tomorrow one game that I'm looking forward to is CPD vs. Sycamore and St.Francis vs Sycamore should be nice to see how Francis matches up vs the strongest sycamore team in years
Pretty dominant performance from UA this weekend missing one of their best 3 or 4 players (Jelen), has there been a year in recent memory when the best team appears to be 7-10 goals clearly better then anyone else? A big pool and 7 minute quarters should only help them with their crazy speed. Can anyone hang with them at all? State rankings should be: UA, Syc, TW, SF then everyone else, thoughts?

UA played very well this weekend. They counter teams all game.
Recent teams that have done well: 2010 SC dominated Ohio teams and lost a regional title but won a state title.
2008 Milford didn't lose to any team from Ohio had a double digit regional title win and won states comfortably.
Been some good ones lately. Will need to think about prior years a little more to give a more in depth answer though.

I would agree with that but it is very close between TW and SF for 3rd but those 4 should be the ones at state but you can never really count out SC with how well they are coached. Syc is probably the only team that has any chance to take down UA this year just because they have a decent amount of speed but UA is so dominant it would take a major choke for them not to win state
St. Francis will continue to struggle if the "coach" continues to have their fastest swimmers sitting on the bench. They will compete for the state championship in the 200 free relay in February, but 3 or 4 of those kids continue to spend more time on the bench than in the water for some reason that no one can seem to figure out.

Being a fast swimmer doesn't always relate into being a really good water polo player. Yes speed is important, but there are other intangibles that are just as, if not more important than just speed
Buckeye,
Noticed you have "coach" in quotes. Anything more behind that? I have just been following results, but aside from the loss to Upper Arlington, they seem to be playing well. I am also assuming the players in the water are very fast themselves; maybe not 200 free relay fast, but very few players ever from St. Francis have not been fast.

i do not think speed is far and away the most important trait but i would say SWIMMING ABILITY is, i would argue scs struggles this year are because the last 2 years even without crazy speed everyone who played was a very good swimmer, this years are quite a bit weaker, i would actually argue no weak swimming team has one states since the last wk team
Exciting game last night with Sycamore pulling out a Sudden Death Victory against Mason (11-10). One of those two teams will take down UA this year. UA is over-rated and will fold when it counts. The games have been closer than the scores show.
I agree that swimming speed is not the only factor in playing water polo, but St. Francis lost their biggest players to graduation. This year there is not a physically dominating presence who can play in the set position. The roster is filled with very fast sprinters and they should be using this to their advantage; however, they continue to try and play through the set position. St. Charles physically handled them the last two years in the state championship games.
Two years ago, Coach Dave Eisenstein had to resign due to changes at his place of employment. They hired someone who works for the school and has some kind of experience playing water polo. Dave was asked by the players to help out last year, and he started helping about half way through the season. He helped salvage the season last year. This year, he is not able to help at all. Let's just say that he is missed.
The first sycamore v UA game wasn't even as close as the score indicated it was 12-3 or 13-3 then UA put in two or three jv players and sycamore got 2 goals out of it the second game syc had just played a 9-7 game vs TW and UA had jv in from the middle of the 2nd til the end and syc just looked dead after the 1st quarter and lost 10-1 the rest of the game
This year's Ohio Cup games were the first games that I watched this year, having "no dog in the hunt" anymore. I miss seeing some really big, dominate players. I mean a Dan Matulis type. Some guy that everyone talks about. I will even give rjones a plug and say that the UA team of 2009 was a scoring machine behind JJ Spangler. Those guys were scoring 18 goals a game against good teams.
Sorry guys and tell me I'm wrong, but I really don't think that any team stood out. Sure, UA won, but lasts year's UA team would have beat them and 3 or 4 of the 2010 teams would have handled them easily.
I'm just wondering but why was TW ranked 2nd over syc when syc beat them once and tied once the 2 times they played was it because syc got beat by sc really bad at Napoleon

I think you're right on the mark preeder. This looks like a down year in Ohio. So far there has been inconsistent play across the board. One problem may be the lack of depth on any team. When they go to the bench there's a real fall off. Maybe as the season progresses teams will become more consistent and the bench play will improve. Now on the positive side, the rosters for the most part look pretty young. Also it seems like there is an increase in the number of players. That can only improve the future prospects.
That's a great point, there did seem to be a lot of young players which is a good sign. I also think seeing Oakwood for Dayton as a new team (including Olympic trials qualifier Patrick Mulcare) was good and St. X showed huge improvement for a young team. All good for Ohio polo.

I thought that was weird as well. Especially since Sycamore beat them recently at Ohio Cup.
