So true, but You wouldn't of happen to graduate around 2005,2006 would you? The posts you have written seem like you might have been on an Annarella coached team. You don't have to throw your name out there, I was just wondering.
That is correct, I played for Bohren during his last year and a couple years for the Annarella staff. Did you play for Annarella also?
Sure did. He was a great coach. It was a shame we couldnt keep him. Hopefully shaner gets to do it his way without any problems. That may be too much to ask for though.
I agree 100% about Annarella. I hope Shaner is given a fair chance because the more I hear about him the more I like. I did not know much about the man before he was hired but I'm not hearing many negatives. I guess we'll see where it all goes from here, in time.
Yea too much time unfortunately. I'm too anxious. Remember our total disgust of canfield kids? Well, I live in columbus now and I'm actually friends with quite a few from Ohio State (their not too bad believe it or not) but all they do is talk about how Niles sucks anymore and I have no comeback! Can we please get a competitive season?! I wish these kids would just play with some pride for once. Niles hasn't been the same since Ganyards class. Nobody plays with any heart, they just accept losing like its no big deal. I think Shaner will change the attitude though, hopefully. Maybe not immediately this year, the seniors may be too far gone to have any school pride, but they have a very good class I hope they come together. This will definitely be one of the better lines we will have in awhile. They must take advantage of it and be balanced. If we can't be balanced, with our schedule we got were destined for around another .500 season.
I must say, I am a bit leery with all this talk regarding how the Niles offensive line will be one of the best in the area, if not the state.
True, it will be one of the biggest in the area, and true it will be experienced.
But I also believe that we learned last year that size alone does not make you a great lineman.
It should be noted that the Niles running game -- expected to be a strength last year -- struggled most of the season. Against Hubbard, 14 rushes, 17 yards. Against Poland 20 rushes, 13 yards. Against Girard, Howland and Brookfield, a combined 316 rushing yards on 97 attempts.
The POTENTIAL exists for this line to be something very special. And with the new line coaches in place, I believe we are heading in the right direction. However, these kids should not be told how great they are just because of their size. Technique is everything!!! Speed and strength are invaluable, and combined, they are much more important than size.
That being said, it is my understanding that the O-line and the rest of the team are working their butts off this off-season. The future of Niles football does look bright.

I don't know who in their right mind would say they are anywhere near best in the state. Even if they reached their full potential they wouldn't be. But, I totally agree with you about the running game. That's why Niles needs an actual quarterback and receivers. We always just put an okay runner at QB and try and run the ball, and teams just stack the box and stop the run. That's why our second half running stats were god-awful last year. Now, receiver is our biggest need this year. Perry,Ifft, Wiery, Justin Lopes, James Tate, All could be good receivers that could take this team to another level, but Tate doesn't play anymore i believe, Lopes either. Ifft and wiery are suppose to play I believe, but who knows. Niles' biggest problem is the best athletes don't play or aren't willing to put in the work it takes to be a winner. I do think the football camps Shaner is doing for the little kids is a real good start to keeping the younger classes interested.
I think Marcus Hill out wide and Aaron Watson in the slot will be adequate. Especially since it looks like Duffy and Yuhas will be run, run, running the ball. I see the other side as more important. I know so many defensive players are back, but the defensive backfield is gone. Can anybody on that list Town made help there? Wiery and Ifft may play some O, but never showed a passion for hitting that is neede for for D. Same probably goes for Tate. Lopes may have the ability back there, but not sure. Probably will be counting on kids like Parry and Hillier to step it up. get it done kids.
How did the good lineman from Niles escape Ursuline??
Someone at Niles must be doing their job.
Congrats to Niles. Maybe start being tough as parents and coaches/alumni.....and quit letting Ursuline come in and "get" your BEST kids.....every "freakin" year.
When you start doing that......then, and only then....will a "Great Niles program" ..get back to where it was.
Here's an update regarding the potential upgrading of Bo Rein Stadium. Looks like there's plenty of money still to be raised before anything will happen.
Remember Mogadore playing a playoff game at Niles. If I remember they had a real nice stadium. Pretty large...what happend to the school? Jobs gone and therfore students. What division are they? My grandfather who was principal of Canton MCK said they use to play Niles....

The stadium is large and although it needs key updates, it's still decent. If all of the plans for the stadium go through, it will be one of the nicer stadiums around. Niles plays football in division 3. There is currently a new high school being built right next to the stadium. Niles football currently isn't at the standard that it was during the time you speak of. The football program can still be good enough if given the opportunity by keeping a good coaching staff.

Any kid who plays football has to know they are going to get hit and hit people so if they decide to play than they obviously are more than willing. Most kids in the secondary aren't passionate about hitting that's just a fact. Although it's great if they do, they have to be able to cover people, have good instincts with the ball in the air, and be willing to come up and stop the run when necessary. Last year, we were really fortunate in the secondary because it was not only a very athletic but tough group of kids. However, Ifft played free safety in junior high and was definitely not afraid of hitting. He had good ball skills. As for the rest of them, if they come out and play than obviously their not afraid to hit someone or else they wouldn't put in the huge effort it takes to be apart of a football team. If they're willing to put in the work and time than I would think they are confident in their abilities and aren't concerned with hitting. I do agree though that Parry and Hillier will definitely have to step up this year, but if those two are considered passionate about hitting than the other names i named are definitely on the same level. The more talent we can have competing during 2-a-days and practices, the more it will raise the bar for playing time and in return raise the level of play and competition inside MOST of them. When I played, There were numerous kids who had a passion for hitting, but were too dumb mentally and had terrible awareness to play. You can get away with not being the brightest on the defensive line and sometimes linebacker, but in the secondary, those kids become a liability. It's always great to have kids who will run thru walls for you and try and kill someone every time they go for a hit, but it's useless if they aren't situationally aware at least 90% of the time.
We do have DBs that will hit you hard. Stefan and Aaron will be fine back there. Ryan and Tyler never liked to hit, but they could help us at receiver.
All I know is that we may be the strongest Niles team in a long, long, long time. We may have an offense where everybody except the recivers is a 250bench/450 squat. The defense will be the same except at corners. Everybody there should be at least 250/450.
The New Orleans penalties are pretty severe. Our team gets stickers for big hits. Most high school teams are rewarded for big hits aren't they? I know causing an injury on purpose is wrong, but a legal hit where the player is carried off should be ok too.
Heard some VERY interesting news regarding the QB situation last night from two sources. I'm not sure if it's 100% true yet, I don't want to spread rumors regarding a young kid. All I'm going to say is, ones stock is rising fast and the others falling faster. I'm not going to say "I told you so" just yet. It's way too early, but either way..Go Dragons of 2012
DragonsD, Regarding your Saints post though, money and stickers are two different things. People will do a lot more for money than stickers. They also were warned multiple times to stop and didn't. However, I do not think money changed many of the players intentions on defense. From the hits I remember, none were "cheap". But you should quit posting I'm sure your coach already told the team not to. Why risk making the team run or whatever the consequences may be?
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew what the middle school players are like? I know the 8th grade finished around .500 and went above .500 the year before, but are there any particularly good players? I heard they have one lineman who's not only big and strong, but also pretty fast to.

I used to follow the younger teams a bit but not for a few years. I too am always wondering how the future talent looks. Maybe somebody else can offer an opinion on how the younger teams look.
I heard news about the 8th grader I mentioned. His last name is Crain, and I've heard nothing but praise for him. He's so advanced he has been lifting with the varsity instead of those in the Middle School. His max bench was 195, his squat 315, deadlift 400, powerclean 175. And he's entering his freshman year. He's got pretty good size (6 foot, ~195 pounds I hear), and has some speed to him also. So we should be expecting to hear his name coming up. Hell, he might even start varsity as a sophomore.
been hearing from a lot of people that there is a strong possibility that the teachers in Niles might go on strike (they have been working without a contract for over a year now) sometime in August. How would this affect the football team?? Who does Niles play the first week or two of the year? Who do they have scrimmages against? If a strike happens I believe some of those things can be wiped out.

Those sound like great numbers for somebody not yet in HS and is just beginning to lift.
As expected, the WR position is much deeper and athletic now with weiry and ifft. Duffys status is really a change of offense if he isn't 100%. Still plenty of time though. I've heard about the camp at girard in which both of our qbs did very well. Paden was rated a little bit ahead of yuhas. If we are forced to be a more passing team due to duffys injury than expect Paden to start. Better Q.
I keep hearing about the huge offensive line that the dragons will have, big 6"8 transfer from harding with d1 offers and a 6'6 junior especially. definitely sounds promising

Wiery is not playing so I am not sure where info is being obtained. Also Yuhas and Paden is not even close according to the coach I heard talking at a graduation party. There is more of a fear of what will we do if Kyle has to be inserted. I honestly wish they had more faith in Kyle, because just knowing histories I bet that Duffy is injured and Yuhas will go to RB, leaving Paden at QB. Any takers???
I am hearing good things about the Niles program this off-season. Canfield, Howland, Poland all projected to be down this year. Looking for Niles to compete for the AAC title.
