I dont know to many teams that run a 4-2 in high school. High school football is so run heavey most teams like to crowd the box with 7-8 guys. I am just guessing they are calling it a 4-2 but it will really be more of a 4-4 bringing pressure from different sides. With 5 DB's you can really mask your blitzing and overload one side or the other. I would guess they are thinking the speed of a db vs a o-linemen would allow us to make some tackles in the backfield and at the line of scrimmage.
Agreed, however as we know, bringing up DBs in the box versus true DL and LBs are not a one-for-one trade-off. I hope they really look hard at the beef on this team and without a doubt determine that there is no one to fill the role before we are running a 4-2/ 4-4 variant. I personally do not believe that is a fact. There are some good size, strong ball players coming up this year that I think can help.
Also, if you are going to rely on 5 DBs- they had better be excellent tacklers, come up and take on pulling OL and be able to fill holes when necessary. You really need one slobber-knocker of a SS to make this work.
In the 4-2
Gary and Alex are the SS and FS
ChucK is Sam I dont know the other kid playing Will
Whitey DB?
Everything else is as you said.
Hansher OL Sr Knee problem but is back now.
The 4-4 Not real sure
DT Neff, Cole
LBs Mike Chuck and Mike W Why would he be moved from DE I don't know?
Will Gary? Sam Alex?
DB Yoder Jeremy Whitey?
Don't know the DE
OH MY FREAKING EYEBALLS ARE BLEADING!!! Now we are hearing from some on here that we are thinking of putting more DB's on the field??? True or not the thought puts me at the point of a 2-week notice and a career change. All the bitching last year that we didn't have any size...and the "rumor" is that we may find even more small kids to put on the field? If this is true let me remind those on the staff that do read this (and some do b/c it's like driving by a car accident...you can't help it)....we give up more yards per running play than we do per pass that is completed on us. 5.49 each time somebody runs the ball on us and 5.19 each time somebody completes a pass on us. Compare those numbers to the '09 defense that gave up 2.59 per run and 5.49 per pass. NOBODY WANTS TO THROW THE BALL ON US.....WHY WOULD YOU!!! Last year i sat at the touchdown club kickoff dinner and listened to DeMarco tell everybody that we were going to show some new looks with our defense b/c the number of teams running "the spread" were growing on our schedule....horse crap....teams are putting an extra receiver in the formation and running right at us, nothing more, nothing less. We are letting other teams control our game plan. We don't need a genius to run this defense, we need somebody with an ounce of common sense and a sack full of balls!

Must of got it from Mount...the Raiders run a 4-2...All it does it put a better athlete on the field....to cover a back or a spread receiver ....but he must be a good tackler...
Still not designed for a typical HS team, especially when playing a run oriented offense. College/ pro sets do not usually translate to the HS level. You can't tell me we can't find some DL/LBs on this team. We have done so for decades.
Teams are going to cram the ball down our throats with this.....
Still all a 4-2 is , is a 4-4...which does play against the run...the question is, and I've havent seen alot of NBC teams, how many teams run the spread??? And I beg to differ with you....more and more hs are gearing their offensives and defensives to colleges.... Coaches are taking their staffs to talk to colleges staffs more and more putting in their schemes,,,

I never said they weren't talking to college coaching staffs about schemes, I realize they are and I have no problem with that. If they can glean nuggets of wisdom from a more experienced, higher level staff- have at it. Still doesn't mean it translates to the HS level in many cases. And I don't know how many times I have to say this- running a 4-2 with 2 extra DBs up in run support is NOT the same as running 7-8 DL/LBs in the box. Get the bigger athletes in the game against the run and then switch them out with DBs situationally as plays dictate. Again, unless we can absolutely not find any LBs to fill the role then go with it.
I will need help with recalling which teams in the NBC besides us exclusively run the spread.
Leopard staffs have been going to clinics since the Hap Lillick days. That doesn't mean they run home and institute a new look because it's "sexy". The good ones sat down and reviewed what they learned and if any of it fit their scheme and players they may use some of it. I get the feeling this staff is grasping at straws.
