Has anyone heard anything yet? Have they taken apps? Interviews? Would b a shame to not get this filled in a reasonable time with a very well qualified coach. Lots of talent for years to come
IF there is so much talent at Norwood, why would the old coach leave?

I finally saw the Norwood as officially open for applicants. I still wonder about your comment. If there is so much talent for years to come, and they are moving to a weaker SBC, why didn't the old coach stay around? I'm just curious, that's all.....
Give an 8th grade coach the varsity job who has very little experience? Why not hire someone that has coached at the JV or varsity level, move Miss Gaut to the JV team then when a change is needed she would be next in line? You could also put her on the varsity staff of the new coach and let her get a taste of coaching at that level first.
IMO that is to big a step especially in a program that needs some stability.

My only thing about hiring a coach that has no ties to Fairless is they use this school as a stepping stone. This community needs someone that wants to be here long term not just until some other bigger school comes calling!
Yes I'll give you that Lindsay has no varsity experience as a coach but neither do the others. Some were assistants and other jayvee coaches that doesn't always mean that your better qualified! The last 2 coaches at Fairless had a few years at the jayvee level and not to be rude, but I believe both were in over their heads! So why not give Lindsay a shot?! She knows the game, the girls know her and like I said before I think it would be good for the team and community to put a former standout Fairless athlete in charge. I know the record this past year didn't reflect it, but there is a good core of players on this team that have been together since YMCA ball. I guess we can go back and forth on here who should get it and why, but in the long run its the group of people in charge that are in there interviewing that have the final say! Just expressing who I feel should get it!!!
Veech2221, I understand your thinking, but if they end up giving Gaut the job, then why go through the process in the first place?
Smaller schools are the majority of the time a stepping stone for coaches. That is just the way things are. Some coaches do stay for a while but most move on if they have some success. Similar to the MAC in football and basketball.
I wish the girls and the new coach success no matter who it is. I have friends that live in The Fairless district and I hope things get better for their sports teams.
The Hamilton job has been open for about a week now. I will be interested to see the applicants. Not exactly a coveted job but they will have some talent this year and next and play in arguably one of the best conferences in the State.

Jillian Spurlock (Sr.): 17 ppg, 1st team GMC, an all around skilled player who has handles and can run the floor. Really likes to take the ball to the hole and use her size. Can also shoot from the outside if needed. She should have a great senior season.
Ellie Kivell (Jr.) 4 ppg in limited minutes last year. A very polished player who averaged 13 minutes a game and should have played much more. Stefanie selected experience over skill last year and played a senior with very little basketball knowledge and skill over Ellie. Stefanie played her the entire game in a Holiday Tournament @ Harrison and she had 13 points. She has excellent handles, runs and sees the floor very well, and can really shoot from the outside. One of those players that shoots an actual jumper. Can shoot either off the dribble or the catch. She should have a good year.
Emma Goins (Jr.) Started in the tournament game against Lakota East and played very well. She has good size (5'11) and plays very hard inside. Not very polished-she plays soccer so doesn't work on her game in the summer. Can be a good player with work.
They also have a sophomore who transferred from Lakota West that didn't play last year due to injury. She will help also. Rumor is they also got a transfer (Sr.) who can shoot. Don't know much beyond that.
Spurlock & Kivell play AAU ball for the Cincinnati Heat Premier program and apparently played in the Deep South Classic with good results.

What happened to the Hamilton coach? Why is the position open? Thought she was the next greatest thing for Hamilton...
She resigned due to the fact there were no teaching jobs available. She hasn't had a job there for the past two years so she decided to leave for a job in the private sector. Not all great players make good coaches and she was an example of this. She may have known basic basketball, but she wasn't a good game situational coach. They had a decent record last year due to their weak non conference schedule. They won the games they were supposed to win, including beating the teams below them in the conference. The only big win they had was beating East in the tournament and that came because they played a 2-3 and East had a cold shooting night.
Wow, Fairless hires Gaut. Didn't even coach last year? Not sure about that hire. I hope it works out for the Lady Falcons, but I have my doubts. Time will tell.
