I love how people complain about "my poor back, I need a new mattress!" Why don't you try EATING A VEGETABLE, FATASS. Your 3 year old child already sweats gravy and is morbidly obese. Quit blaming your mattress, stop eating fast food 10x's a week and WORK OUT. Rant over...
First workout of the New Year was squats. Got a little work to do as I added a bit of holiday weight. No biggie. Weight comes off quickly for me and it probably helped add a bit of strength.
Took a trip out to Whitefeather Meats on Friday and dropped a little more than $300 on fresh farm raised pork, chicken & bison to add a little variety to the grassfed beef. Plan on buying a cow and at least one pig for the freezer this year.
Workouts have been consistent with projected maxes on squats (500+), deadlifts (525+), bench press (350+) and overhead press (225+) are all ahead of schedule.
Hoping to add more sprint work and perhaps a Prowler into my program this year.
I love the Wendler 5/3/1 workouts but the beating on my joints is taking it's toll. When I'm having issues walking up steps after a heavy squat workout (knee issues, not due to quad fatigue) there's a problem. Add in the fact that my new "training partner" has been unreliable lately.
Heavily debating taking off a week and starting a P90X/Insanity hybrid to shed for the upcoming Summer months. After these workout's I'd do one mass/compound exercise (bench, squat, deadlift).
A little surprise this morning. Went to do P90X Plyometrics and my dvd wouldn't work/was skipping. Dove headfirst back into Insanity. Not too bad but room for improvement after close to a year layoff from these workouts.
Week 3 of this round of P90X started today with chest & back.
Finished this workout by pulling (deadlift) 375 for 11 reps. Started out with one set of bench press for 8 reps. Want to keep these lifts so I don't lose my strength in them. Makes doing max rep pushups interesting afterward. No fun working out when half of your brain is coming out of your nostril in between sets. Sinus infections/colds suck!
Have actually subbed out some of the dumbbell movements with barbell movements so I can still keep size. For instance, Congdon Locomotives have been replaced with bent barbell rows while the bent shoulder flyes were replaced with seated machine rows.
Popped the left hamstring running 40's this morning but fortunately it wasn't too major. Made it through the workout. Luckily my next cardio work will be a long distance walk so it should have time to heal before the next sprint session on Thursday. Still waiting for the Prowler's arrival.
Been a couple of months since I updated this. Workouts still plugging along. Hope to be able to post a video of a 405 lb bench press, for reps, in the coming months.
Had to cease the Prowler work as I believe I may have significant damage to the right knee.
Purchased a bench press tool called a "Slingshot" that is ridiculously effective. It keeps your shoulders in the right "groove" while tucking your elbows. Any delt pain that I had from bench pressing is gone. Also use it for DB presses, weighted dips, weighted pushups and close grips.
