That is player singular. Watch the video again it is #15 the whole time. That first elbow she takes to the stomach sets her off.
This is a situation that went on the entire game. Not only should have #15 been ejected but her coach as well for letting this kind of garbage go on. ESPN is reporting that #15 has been suspended from the team indefinately. Maybe she can catch onto a Roller Derby team somewhere or maybe better yet... Womens Professional Wrestling!
there is rough play and then there is ditry play. I would guess she plays like this all the time and this wasn't one game. Maybe the coah likes this kind of play and encourages it - as in "keep doing it until you get called for it". I think we have all watched players like this - maybe not this dirty, but they are out there and a lot coaches love 'em. And I would guess she had a foul mouth to go with this kind of play. Obviously the refs had no control over this game.
This type of play is wrong and I am glad to hear they handed out a stiff punishment for it.I agree what about the coaches for allowing it to continue?? Who tells the referees they were wrong for allowing it to continue? So many wrongs in the matches its even funny. I hope there is soemthing doen to all parties that allowed this to go on referees, and coaches.
Now here is my question for eye gouging in College football the coach only gives a ½ game suspension? They player asks for a full game? WTH ????
I watch boys and girls play soccer and for the most part, not all the time, the boys are allowed to be more physical then the girls. The LAWS of the game are the same and most referee do both boy and girls games so why the difference? Can anyone offer up any reason why the game is called so differently between the two or am I off base and they are both called equally?

How in the world could three referees and an entire coaching staff for two college teams miss all but one of these fouls/calls? Even the yellow card should have been red, for purposefully launching a ball into the face of a fallen player for two feet away. Just pathetic. The referees should be suspended for incompetence.
I also think the NM coaches share some blame here too. I simply do not believe that this player had a momentary lapse in sanity and reacted in such an outrageous, malicious manner. I would bet that she has a long career of walking up and over "the sportsmanship line," with a "two eyes for an eye" philosophy (ala the very first incident ... an elbow = smack in the back). Is there any doubt that her coaches are/were well-aware of her "style" of play?
I would bet there is a season full of "lowlights" for this particular player.
But more broadly, my experience has been that every scream for a foul and a card is met with a counterveiling yell to "let 'em play," depending upon the rooting interest of the speaker.
I would hope the NCAA is reviewing the crew as well. It's one thing to miss something behind the play, but this went on the entire game. In my opinion there were 3 maybe 4 opportunities where she should have been sent off. The caution she received was for the least of her actions too.
As far as guys vs. girls games. In my experiences, I apply the laws of the game in the same manor. The biggest differences in how I call a game are skill level not gender. Sure guys play the game differently than girls, might be faster too. I will say that guys typically will deal with retaliation on the spot and be done with it. Girls seem to let that carry from season to season.
We are suggesting that the rulebook be modified to include a new foul (PTTD) Pony Tail Take Down

It's obvious the ref's missed a lot but when you say the entire coaching staff for both teams? I'm not sure how to take that. A. They may have seen all of it. B. Even if they did, they are not officials and don't make calls.
Also, the player that "launched" the ball into her face was not carded or penalized on that play. It was number 15 who stepped in front of the player making the run. Here are the offical stats from the game, which show who was carded, etc... With so much out of control play (violent conduct), I cannot figure out how only one yellow was shown. I guess the center doesn't like to do paperwork.
I am sure the coaches saw a lot of it and as a coach if I had seen some of this play this young lady would have been on the bench for this game. If this behavior was an every match thing then she would not have stayed on my squad. So you are right the coaches cant blow the whistle or award a free kick but they can pull her out of the match even without the referee doing a thing.
"Liz is a quality student-athlete, but in this instance her actions clearly crossed the line of fair play and good sportsmanship," said Vela.
"Liz's conduct on the field against BYU was completely inappropriate," said UNM Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs. "There is no way to defend her actions."
I still believe the REFS let it get out of hand. A Redcard early to the (Coach, Player, Bench)would have taken care of this.
The following occurred this weekend at a rec 12/13/14 year old level. It falls in line with some of the comments being made.
Intense close game, both teams playing hard. Refs getting it from lots of directions (more than should have been, but unfortunately, that's the nature of these events more often than not).
Two players going for the ball, collide, and the referee correctly says play on. One player stays down for a short period of time, and referee runs over to the player and asks her if she is ok. In her response of describing the pain, she uses the adjective version of the magic word, gets up and runs off to get into the play. Not a bad word, but the magic word.
Now, three people heard this. Obviously the player that said it. Me (15 yards away), and the referee. I know he heard it because he told her, sternly, to 'watch her mouth'.
Has the world passed me by? Is this acceptable behavior now, and I am being an old prude?
If not, what do I do? I got into the referee's ear, and let him know that it wasn't acceptable. Not once did I raise my voice, and I doubt that anyone other than the coaches standing next to me know I was discussing this with him.
After about 30 seconds, he turned to me and said, 'I probably should have red carded her, but......' He glanced at the other coaches, and I knew he did not do it because of the explosion that would have occured.
What do I do? I talked to him and told him that he has a duty to prevent that sort of things from happening, but he just shrugged his shoulders.
Here's a young adult referee (23?) who is trying to do a good job, and I don't want to run him off. But I also think he needs to do his job properly.
Do I complain to the older head referee? Do I complain to the league/referee assignors? Do I tell the other coaches what was said? Would that do any good? I know what I do if it's one of my kids, and I hear that.
In all reality, the game was to be controlled by the refs and they failed to protect the players. They should be the ones issuing statements and explaining themselves. Number 15 was out of control and the center should have stepped in way before the PTTD LOL.
