not at all trying to sound prophetic, because Louisville has a great program and deserved to be favored, but you can't help but feel good reading about Marion-Franklin from the pre-season and then seeing them now
According to WHBC's sideline reporter who was talking to a Marion-Franklin coach at halftime, there is no jr. high football program feeding Marion-Franklin. Is that true? If so, it's pretty remarkable.

Well, I think that just means no direct feeder. The middle schools on the south end get dispersed and then there's a lottery and a magnate school and other possibilities ... there is no M-F middle school directly that I know of, though

I see.
Just having no direct feeder is hard enough since so much of practice time freshman year ends up having to be spent on having the kids get to know each other and getting them on the same page whereas other schools with direct feeders might already have a few years of experience with their playbook under their belts by the time they enter HS. For example, Louisville has a very well-organized youth program, so the kids have a lot of experience with Coach Farrah's playbook by the time they start HS.
Congratulations to Marion-Franklin for the win. M-F's lines were awesome and really put pressure on Minster. Also, Verlon Reed is quite a special player for the Red Devils. Thank you, Leopards, for another nice season! Good luck to all the seniors, and always remember #56!
Cosign. I thought Reed's punting was key. As good as a QB and CB he is those punts pinning the Leps deep all night made things difficult. I'll admit, I didn't have a good feeling going into the night as that offense has been less than explosive lately. Combine that with a tremendous defensive effort and you have a loss. 8 vs 1, but to me that was not and 8 seed, they will make some noise. Both offenses were stuffed for the most part and the Leps O made THE mistake. In close tough games ONE mistake can cost you and it did tonight. Too much like Ohio State for me.
Roundup: Red Devils stun top seed

Verlon Reed scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter to give visiting Marion-Franklin a 14-7 upset over top-ranked Louisville last night in a Division II reqional quarterfinal.
The eighth-seeded Red Devils (9-2) took an early lead when Phil Wilkins stripped the ball from the Louisville quarterback and returned it 64 yards to the 2-yard line. Chad Jones ran it in on the next play to give Marion-Franklin a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
"That play really set the tone for the game," Marion-Franklin coach Brian Haffele said. "It gave us the early lead, which was important."
Louisville (11-1) took a 7-6 lead when Toby Minster threw a 14-yard TD pass to Cody Stocker early in the second quarter. But the Red Devils answered with Reed's TD run in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Red Devils stopped Louisville three times on downs and caused a fumble.
"We came up here expecting to win. We did not come here to lose," Hafferle said. "We put a lot of time and hard work to come up here to win. We had a great week of practice, and that is where we won this game."
Reed completed 12 of 22 passes for 146 yards. Jeremy McCoy had seven catches for 73 yards.
The MAC schools want him to play QB and I think OSU wants him but as a DB. No offer from the Bucks yet though. This was from my source at Bucknuts...it's not set in gold, but he's usually in the know about recruiting.
Maybe the bucks are trying to get him as a prefferred walk-on.
That would be a mistake by OSU IMO. He's good enough to get an offer as an athlete and we'll let Verlon decide where he fits best. What do I know though? He just beat my team, so maybe I'm making him out to be something he's not.

I'd love to see Tress go for Verlon and see where he fits in, but smarter people than me do this stuff
