Here is what I heard from talking to some of the boys during the Sycamore game:
- guard heavy team with some solid 3s as well. Kind of light and small for 4 & 5.
- Seniors are looking solid - Brune, Stouffer, O'Shaughnesy, and Barnes. Barnes evidently just had tonsils out so he may be slow for the first part of November but should be fine by season opener. Brune is driving better, Stouffer is playing great defense as always and hitting the outside jumper, O'Shaughnesy is finally running the floor well and getting rebounds - still not sure about him as an offensive threat. Barnes is looking good but appears to be 3rd behind Brune and Stouffer (and probably 4th behind Sprague).
- Sweeney is hurt but should be okay by season opener - may put him down to JV though until he is back 100%. He has grown (6'6) but may need some more muscle to play in the GMC.
- Sprague is hitting every shot and is a couple inches taller than last year and is getting stronger. He may not start with Brune and Stouffer in front of him but he should see a lot of minutes especially where Richards wants more ball handlers on the floor - may have Brune, Stouffer and Sprague (and Barnes). May lead team in vertical jump (I don't think that included King and Carden) and supposedly can stuff the ball with one hand.
- Myles looks great one night and then so-so the next. He should be ready for season opener. Doesn't appear that he grew too much since last year but he seems a bit stronger. Still needs help jumping.
- Harris looks good on offense but is a non-factor most of the time on defense. He is way out of shape and weak. He is lagging everyone on the sprints (almost to the point of not finishing) and evidently Richards is upset about it. Couple kids that I talked to don't know what Richards sees in him.
- Carlin grew a lot. Not sure if there is a spot for him on Varsity this year but he may fill an injury spot later in the season. They kind of screwed with him last year by bringing on to JV and then back to Freshman. Hopefully he stays in a comfortable spot this year.
- no sign of Pippins and Winkler from last year's JV team. Pippins supposedly had problems with Barnes and King so that may have something to do with it. Looks like Winkler is going to focus on soccer. Not unusual for Richards and Bly - they always seems to drive off at least one senior each year.
- Obviously King and Carden haven't been there due to football. Evidently rumors of them not playing are not true even though their first love is football. May have been different if Comets would had done better in football this year.
- Lots of sophomores look like they are trying out and lots of freshman. Evidently kids that didn't play for the last couple years are in the open gyms. Freshman, JV white and green could be interesting and may add new talent to the mix in the coming years. May be fun to watch.
