View Full Version : The Return of Coach Abdul

With the departure of Shepas, I know that there has been some groundswell gaining for Coach Stacy to approach Coach Abdul about returning to coach kickers. I personally think this is a GREAT idea, and will only accelerate the improvement of Steve Schott who may well be one of, if not THE best kicker in Massillon history. I was wondering if anybody on here heard anything about it, or if anybody has talked to Coach Abdul about that possibility. J, I know you and he are good friends.

Any insight on this???

J:

Are you telling me that MP.com and the Massillon Tiger football program are somehow aligned? I just find that rather far-fetched and VERY hard to believe, considering that the owner of MP.com didn't even go to Massillon. My understanding is that he was a Timken graduate.

That's what I've heard about Coach Abdul. I believe he was also a mentor to your son is that right? There is NOTHING negative about this guy from anybody you read or talk to about kicking. He definitely needs to be back on the Tiger sideline, and he definitely needs to be taking Schott under his wing. It's scary what he could do with that much youth and talent.

I'm not sure who on here has the power to do anything even if they do step up. I don't know the Massillon posters outside of you, PB (Yes I KNOW it's Massillon JACKSON PB!!), longtimefirstime, DB135, you and I. Not much power there I don't believe. Anyway, I know that this is a topic over on TigersLair; at least it was for awhile. I think I'll go get that one started back up tomorrow.

Someone asked him about it. He responded. A couple of others saying they hope it happens.....that's it. Not many people post over there.

OK, I'll add my two cents since you two would like more input on this thread. ;)

In all seriousness, I don't know a ton about kicking and punting (although much more now than I did a few years ago....), but I absolutely agree that Massillon couldn't ask for a more qualified, enthusiastic and dedicated oach for their special teams than David Abdul.

His level of dedication to the game is one of the most intense I have witnessed. He takes what he does very seriously, and he gets excellent and proven results. He has a great rapport with his players, and he goes the extra mile for them.

I'm not sure in what direction Coach Stacy will go as far as this issue, but it would behoove him to lure Coach Abdul away from Northwest. Massillon's program would do nothing but benefit from what Coach Abdul has to offer.

And as far as what they're saying about this on TL.....I would love to respond there as well, but I'm sure certain people can't quit holding grudges and having their double-standards. It's too bad, because I always enjoyed the discussion there as well as on MP.com.

And I'm still not sure why JW was banned in the first place....

But it's nice to see that some posters- like you, FLT- can move past petty previous disagreements. :thumb:

FLTiger...

Do you really think that Steve is a BETTER kicker than David Abdul??

I think David Abdul was the best HS kicker I've ever seen ANYWHERE, let alone Massillon!!

NO DISRESPECT to Schott whatsoever, but IMHO Abdul was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime HS booter!!!

Abduhl was an excellent kicker. He was special and fun to watch. But please don't forget Schott was a FRESHMAN last season. He's going to fill out physically and is improving his mechanics. He also will be fun to watch. Save the arguments about who was better at Massillon for a few years down the road.

Is this the actual kicker that kicked a few years ago? Is he coaching already? He was one of the influx of recruits that came into Massillon under the Shepas regime. Came from Lake. Weird how the talent had dissipated once the state got involved after the Mansfield running back situation.

The state barely got involved you moron. The administration policed itself on this one. Once again, you don't have a damn clue what you are talking about. Go away, you're an idiot.

And by the way, it's David Abdul's dad.

"No, officer, I can't pull over!! Can't you see?? I am going too fast to just pull over!! Don't worry though, I am policing myself!! I am quite capable!!!"

Who is the idiot now!!

A column on Schott:
http://www.jjhuddle.com/stories/SteveSchott.htm

It's good for him to get the recognition, even if it's from the Puddle.

I think Abdul could do great things for Schott, or any kicker. It'd be good to see him back at Massillon.
