Hey all,i figured i'd post this in your forum to try and weed out all the crap it might get in the main football forum.

While talking to some of my Colerain co workers and friends we started discussing this.I'm curious what you guys think about this.

In years past,Coombs has been criticized for his non conference schedule. So last year,he goes out and schedules 3 playoff teams,1 of which was the defending state champ (Elder) and people still b*tched about how week the schedule was.

This season,he goes out and schedules 3 more playoff teams....once again 3 more playoff teams,2 of which are state champs (Tyler,TX and Highlands,KY) and now people are saying he's getting in over his head.People are saying he's bit off more than he can chew.

Coombs is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.IMHO,Coombs has a huuuuuuge sack building a schedule like this, and i wish him luck.

Here's hoping we meet again in November...only this time at Nippert! :)

I think Kerry does what he thinks is best for the program and the school & community. Because we are a public school, often times we don't get the attention the GCL schools get.

Plus, I wouldn't call Kerry "camera shy" and when there is an opportunity to allow his coaches and players and school to shine on the big stage, I think he wants to take advantage of it.

Make no mistake, the first three games this year are killer. However, if we can escape with a 2-1 record during that stretch, it will only help the team as they move into the GMC schedule.

At the end of the day, people judge your success by how you do in the playoffs. Nobody cares that Elder got beat up by both Trinity and Warren Central in '02 and '03 respectively. The bottom-line is they won 2 state championships in a row.

If Colerain appears in their 4th straight regional final, that's a successful season in my book.

You're right about the fact that Coombs can't please everyone. He doesn't need to,nor does he care to.

The bottom line here is building a good enough schedule with enough harbin points to qualify for the playoffs. It doesn't matter how tough or how weak your non-conference schedule really is.In the end,if a team is flat out good enough they're going to win in the playoffs.

If you do build a "good enough schedule" as you said, then you can qualify for the playoffs. So,why didn't Coombs build a schedule "just good enough" instead of this gauntlet that he's gotten himself into?
