The dealers' ownership probably has a history of donating to the Republicans.

Haha, there was an anlysis done to see if Repubican dealerships were being targeted. What they found out was that an overwhleming majority of dealerships are owned by people who declare themselves to be Republican. It kind of makes sense since dealerships are usually people who are running a small owner business. The backbone to America is the small owned businesses which are being punished more and more with government regulation, involvement and taxes.
There is one GM dealership in Hamilton, Ohio(I think it'sRose Chevrolet) that is in the top 7% for customer service and sales, yet it is one that is being closed. It would be interesting to see the guidelines they are using to determine who remains and who gets the ax.
With the UAW now owning huge portions of both GM and Chrysler those companies will continue to go down hill and in the end they will fail.

Doesn't bother me that they are closing some of the better dealers, only helps guarantee their eventual failure. The more successful dealers will find a way to stay in business, picking up other manufaturers, selling used cars and doing repair business. They would be smart undercutting the manufacturer's dealers and providing warranties when the manufaturers void the warranties.
