New Knoxville's basket ball coach, Dan Hegemier, has become the new boys basketball coach at St Marys.Dan leaves NK after a pretty good run there including a small school state title.

This will be a pretty big challange at St Marys for Coach Hegemier. St MArys is a "football" school and it will take awhile to get people to start following bbball like they do football there. St Marys only won 1 game last year which came against a winless Wapakeoneta

According to the roster thread... he's leaving NK at the right time (especially for himself)...

Four starters graduating from this past season's team including his post player and point guard. The new coach will have some big shoes to fill. Hegemier's success at NK will create some high expectations.

Any word on candidates for the NK job, adog?

HAven't heard of any yet...but I'm sure the BOE will have quite a few resumes to look thru. Who knows...they may just stay right with Heggy's asst coach unless he moves along to St Marys with Heg
I will post any articles from this area if I come across any. Matter of fact here is the article from the Lima News annoucing Coach Hegemier's move to St Marys

You know Hoop...you are correct about NK losing 4 starter, but let me tell you...I watched their JV's several times last year and they will be good. Maybe not next year, but year after I could see them make some noise again on the tourny trail. Last years JV center probably could have started at a few schools but he had somebody by the name of Peihl in front of him...lol

Thanks for the link. QUITE a resume the guy has. :crush:

A program like St. Mary's gotta feel like this kinda fell outta heaven for them. You sure don't often see a coach with that kind of pedigree move to a program so down-in-the-dumps.

It should be interesting to see how Hegemier can co-exist with the successful football program that St. Mary's has. Sometimes, the building just isn't big enough...

Know what I mean?

I honestly don't even think Hegemier can do much with the St. Marys bball program. Not a knock on him as he is an excellent coach but they just never seem to have the players in that sport unlike Football where they have talent every year. If it was a challenge of building a program that he wanted then he definitely got exactly that.

It sounds as if the new guy (whoever he will be) at least will have a fightin' chance with the newcomers you're talking about. The kids returning to NK hoops next season must be a little "shell-shocked" learning that their old coach won't be returning.

I wish them (and the new coach) well. :)

An ad in todays Lima News stating New Knoxville is looking for a Varsity AND Jr. Varsity boys basketball coaches. I do not know if there is anyone in the system that would warrant a look or not but it looks like they need to fill both posisitions.
Maybe MacRanger could fill in a few details.....does he still come on this site much?

Alot of stuff is going around about this in town. but then again alot of stories are always told in small towns.

The Truth of the matter is that DAN is a GREAT Coach, nearly EVERYONE who PLAYED for Dan enjoyed him at NK, The Fans enjoyed him, he is a NK alum, and he loved the kids he coached at NK and the job, so you put the peices together and figure out where this went wrong at???

all i know is somebody messed up and somebody said screw it

again nothing but GREAT THINGS to say about Dan from this Ranger Fan.

I cannot say I am/was a Hegemier fan ( do not like his arrogance), but I have to give him his props. He is/was one helluva coach. He definitely knows how to motivate kids and get their best out of them. I am not so sure NK would have that state banner hanging in the gym if it wasn't for Dan . That team was talented as all get out, but I just don't see anyone other than Dan getting the most out of them.

Sorry hoophound for the delay.....but here is the new BBall coach at New Knoxville according to what some people from the MAC area told me : Mr Kort Fledderjohann. He was an assistant of Heggy but that is all I know about him. If/when a news article comes out, I will post it. Maybe MACRanger could fill us in better

HOLY SMOKES!!! It musta taken Coach F. until he was 10 years old to be able to spell his name!!! (Woulda taken me longer!!)

I'm guessing he's Norwegian... maybe Swedish. German is a possibility of course, ditto Dutch... but "Kort" sounds like Norway to this ol' Kraut hounddog.

Anyway... post something when you see something, adog!!

(You too, Mac!!)

Thanks, guys!!
