View Full Version : FF -vs- Hamilton in 1st game of state tourney
Wow - right out of the shoot FF -vs- Hamilton in the first game of the state tournament. I hope there is some spirited YAPPI dialogue leading up to this game. Rumor has it that A-1 is going to show up for this game but there is conflicting speculation as to what side he will sit on!!!!!!!!!
Lets hear it FF and Hamilton fans this is what the kids work all winter and play all spring for - the state tournament.
IMHO-maybe I'm wrong here but this definitely lacks the luster of HHS-FHS tourney tilts of days gone by. Many district titles decided on good old McKie Field back in the day and what a battle those games were. Two elite programs just going after each other. They are a far cry from those lofty days. HHS sits last in the GMC and the Injuns are middle of the road, not a lot of drama there. It is still HHS-FHS so it will be good theater, but more than likely not good baseball.

Sad thing is hamilton has the talent to kick Fairfield in the butt. Guess we will have to wait and see what line-up Bowling plays.

Granted the teams are not as good as the championship years before but this still is a neighborhood rivalry and the loser of the game is done playing baseball for their school. It is the state championship tourney. I would think no matter the level of play this would be a heated game and thus have some spirited YAPPI chatter during the run up to the game. If not I for one will be disappointed because I know there are some posters from both sides who like to frequent YAPPI.

It may lack the luster but I think there are surprises ahead. Some of these kids have state experiance to draw from. No reason for Hamilton to lose, unless the wrong kids are played, (which is probable, considering how the beginning of the season has been handled).

this is put up or shut up time for both Players and Coaches this team has the talent to make a run the kids need to go into the tourney with confidence and feel that form their coaches as well this team was beat before they even played Saturday the seniors and Junior starters need to step up and take control of this team and quick worrying more about themselves and focus on the team....

FF has not played badly this season. I believe they are 5th in the GMC and have had some close calls in the games they have lost. 1-0 against Mason is not bad as Mason is in 3rd place in the division. Coach Price has them playing better than the last couple of years. I wouldn't count the Tribe out of this one!!!!

FF won in a slugfest last night also. They are now up to 4th place in what some have called a down year for the GMC. ( I don't know if I agree with that but I am just saying what I have read).
I think this may be a pretty good 1st round match up in the tourney. Any idea where this will be played. IMHO may have to make an appearance on this one.

IMHO: Just look at the GMC. Parity or a down year? Like I said Driesbach is a fine coach who got it done with not a lot of talent but good coaching. They lost their first few games, Coach D got in their assk and now they are producing Period.. If you read the paper after they played FF Coach D said it was the Worst game he had ever saw played at LW..... There are some nice players but Oak Hills with Dreisbach coaching would win state. Oak Hills has the most talent of any GMC team but from what I have heard, the coach is in the Priceless class. Oh well what an exciting time. FF-Ham is a toss up. The pitching is so down teams score 20 runs a piece and the team who scores 21 wins. Great pitching duals... Just IMHO

Give it a rest A-1. Is this about LW or OH? NO!!!!! You know as much about the players as I do maybe less and you still try to put down the current bunch as not being up to those lofty standards that you thought your kid and your friends kid dispalyed last season. You bring up a 20 run game I bring up a 1-0 loss to Mason who is in 3rd in the GMC as a good baseball game played. Was that a pitching dual or can you spin that away also?
Thansk for saying this game is a toss up other than that once again you added nothing to a thread.

IMHO: You are just a plain idiot. It is about HS baseball and what I have said all along. Good coaching with decent players trumped and will win the GMC LW 12-4. Looks like they will take it again... Not much has changed in the past 3-4 years at FF. Check out the record. Is it head and shoulders better than the year before last NO.... This has nothing to do with my son or who ever the ---- you are talking about, just making a point. You can't take it when I am right and you are a no nothing, idiot who stalks threads for a kick...Why do you keep bringing up my son, or another kid this is between you and me. A-1, last year the GMC had 4 seniors sign with D1 schools. This year there are 8 seniors who have signed D1 and 2 juniors that have already committed to Louisville. Your theory about the GMC being better last year than this year is silly. West's ace was 11-1 last year with an ERA in the 2's. This year he has 3 wins and an ERA over 5. How is it again that the GMC is down this year?
As for the HHS/FF game....two pretty evenly matched teams. Whoever makes the fewest mistakes will win this game.

FF-Mason 1-0- Mason didnt throw their ace that game and what was the score, Mason threw their ace at hamilton and the blue wins 8-4 so you can throw the records out the door and it is Ham- FF so anything can happen but I definitely dont see a 20 spot put up by either squad!!

In baseball things have a way of coming back around, this just goes to prove that is still the case. One of these teams year will end while the other has a good chance to make some noise after a "so-so" year. It just doesn't get any better than this. It will come down to making the plays and gettting the timely hits, oh that is usually how it is and suppose to be.
cannot listen to A1 about this years team, I have not seen him at a game yet and I don't think I could miss him if he were there. He has not seen this team hit, field, pitch or coach to be able to comment on them. He probably thinks the talent is down since they do not play for him in summer.

FF/Ham game is on MOnday May 11 and the winner plays Harrison on Wednesday May 13. Do you think either team throws their ace on Monday or will they hold their ace for Harrison who undoubtedly will throw their ace on Weds? You have to win to get to Weds. game but at the same time you have to prepare to win 2 games in 3 days not 1 to advance to the next game.

well Hamilton Like fairfield does not have a legitimate ace and you have to win the first one so you throw the one who you feel will give you the best chance to win

I think it is an interesting choice. The state tourney is really a series of mini tourneys. This one for FF and Hamilton is a 2 game tourney where Harrison only has 1 game. I certainly understadn the you can't win 2 withut winning the first so you throw your best in game 1 but Harrison if I am not mistaken has a pretty good pitcher in Kukendahl (sp?) to throw on Weds. You may be able to get by with out hitting the other team on Monday but you better be able to hold Harrison down on Weds. as that will probably be a lower scoring game. Win 2 and you play the winning of St X/Colerain next - both teams are beatable.
Have to agree with the Dawg, you can't win the second game if you don't win the first. It seems HHS-FHS are evenly matched and both seem to be playing fairly well right now. I would guess that both teams, coming from the rigors of the GMC would feel comfortable against whomever the Wildcats throw.
I would guess Coach Bowling jumped on the Indians feeling this was their best chance to advance and knowing his kids would be ready for a FHS ballgame. SHould be fun.

I actually think the GMC is toughest league this season in the region and expect one of the GMC teasm to represent the region in the FInal 4. But anything can happen in the tourney. I think it is a great draw for all 5 teasm in this bracket. Get hot at the right time and you can get thru. No powerhouses in this bracket but no easy games either. I could see any one of the 5 teams advancing. Colerain though seems to have some "daddy-ball" issues according to some posters and we all know where that gets you don't we? :stirthepot:

I would think that FF would want to throw Williamson against Hamilton, who would be considered to be their best pitcher. I believe he has thrown complete games his last 3 times out. Like it's been said, you have to win the first game to get to the second. From there I would imagine Elmlinger would throw should they advance to play Harrison. Since Johnson has been dismissed from the team, the pitching gets a little dicey. That explains the 24 runs they have given up in the last 2 games. The team can hit the ball though most of the time and can put up a lot of runs. BTW...the pitcher from Mason may not have been what is considered their ace, but he was throwing some nice gas. FF left a ton of runners on during that game. Any ideas how good Harrison really is?

Harrison doesn't score a lot of runs against good pitching, but Kuykendoll is legit on the mound and is one of the better pitchers in the area.

Apparently you have seen some games so you should know the 20 run games are generally fielding issues by both teams. Look for the indians to advance behind Williamson and heck maybe a GMC low tier pitcher can hold down mighty harrison with some good fielding. I'm just saying. Maybe A1 will come out to a game, see, anything can be possible

Yes, no doubt fielding gaffes have added to the run totals, but so have walks and hits. Elmingler though did throw a nice game against Hamilton the first time around, so maybe FF will decide to throw him again. When he's on, he's quite good too. After him and Williamson, there are question marks on the mound.

basesloaded-I wasn't insinuating that the FAVC has no quality teams or pitching staffs, just that in the GMC with their 18 game regular season schedule that those teams will not be overwhelmed by a legit arm. They see it, for the most part, day in and out. I had heard that the Marksberry kid is lights out and I know the coaching staff where he is headed and they are extremely happy to have him. The winner will be ready to go is all that I was saying. Good luck to all!

BPDawg- funny thing to me is that Fritsch is the shortstop for the team out of Harrison that all these Harrison kids play on, yet he isn't capable of being a starting infielder for the Blue. What is up with that? Does Bowling not realize what a good infielder the Fritsch kid is, not a big hitter doesn't have the size but as far as defense goes he is solid. Been asking myself why I haven't seen him with more playing time for the Blue. Any insight into this matter?

Only time will tell and of course it depends on who shows up ready to play and wants it more than the other team. I am looking for a 9-7 score, just not sure who wins it.
Hamilton loses a close pitching battle to Colerain and FF get pounded by Sycamore. FF pitching has me worried. The same names that someone posted would be the starters in their tourney games have been the pitchers in the most recent hitters duals. Does FF have enough pitching to keep anyone from scoring in the double digits during the tourney?
On another note - does Hamiton/Colerain/Harrison or FF hit the ball enough to out score St X? St X doesn't hold anyone down but they will put some runs on the board against anyone.

I know this goes back s few years but I remember catching a HHS-FHS sectional final up at the old McKie field in Oxford. The Blue had won the GMC and was heavily favored to at least get to the Regionals.....
Anyway former coach Yeatts called on his 4th or 5th best pitcher- someone the Blue hadnt either seen or even expected to see to throw that afternoon. I cant remember his name but all he threw was off speed and curves the entire game and had the Blue completely off stride.
Back then Yeatts had Bowling's number in post season, and this game was no different. Big Blue could not sit on what looked like from the stands 45-50mph long tosses.
Yet again a game where you can just throw away what happened in the regular season.....For some reason when these two play in post season anything can happen.
Impala-very good. I watched many of those games myself and you are correct Coach Yeatts was in Coach Bowling's head. Many times the Blue were more talented only to get beaten in the district by the Indians. Always a good matchup when those two squared off. How many yappi posters remember the phantom infield.
