The Field Falcons are getting power numbers from all over the lineup.

18 hrs in 16 games
ries 2
eldreth 1
boggs 2
adkins 3
perez 3
burden 2
abshire 3
umbright 1
snyder 1

how does your squad matchup?

who else besides you 2-3-4 hitters are jack 'em out of the park?

While those are impressive numbers as far as power is concerned, I think that there is way too much emphasis put on HR's. I would rather see a HS team smack the ball around to all fields and not focus on round trippers. More often than not, HR hitters don't do much else with the bat. I know of a few legit HR threats in Cincy that can't lay down a bunt or hit behind a runner, which I think is way more improtant.

Home runs are flashy, and everyone likes to see them, but I will take a complete hitter any day of the week over a power threat.

Field hit 6 against Manchester Saturday there really hitting well rite now in the crucial part of the season... And i agree with SPRINGER on the well rounded batters but if you can throw in a HR every once in a while its nice

Sorry springer I forgot to mention the falcons are hitting .347 as a team.

I never said that the numbers weren't impressive. They are, but I would take .460 hitters over a .300 guy with pop in his bat. A team average of .347 is decent, but at the high school level, I don't think that is a huge number.

I agree completely. A .460 hitter will hit any pitch, and if they are that good of a hitter, chances are they also have HR power if given the right pitch. A .300 hitter with pop in his bat can be neutralized with the right pitches/location. How many times have we heard good MLB HR hitters say that when they hit a HR, it's is actually a mistake.

That said, I still like power. Mainly because HR power will also translate to hard driven balls into the gaps for extra bases. Those types of hitters are the guys getting all the RBI's.

P.S. Falccondad.... those ARE indeed impressive top to bottom HR numbers. My question is, what are your field dimensions and who are you playing? I'm not trying to be a smart alec, I'm just curious, because Indian Hill for example, had (perhaps still does, I have not been there to see this year) a temporary fence in left field that was only about 280 feet. That can skew HR numbers.

FI89,

I completely understand, were they hit in a bandbox?....some did come in small field yes and so do everyone elses....but our field at home is 309 to left field line, 365 LC, 390 center, 365 RC, and 309 RF. We have had 6 of ours at home but we have only had 5 home games. We play 9 homes games all year out of 27. I get your point absolutely. The other person is saying they would rather have .460 hitters me too, problem is you aren't finding .460 hitters in the 9 spot at the most you might find 2 or 3 of those on your entire team. My focus is top to bottom power. Sure we would love to have 1-9 .400 hitters. I have been in the game for 13 years this is one team that from top to bottom has raw power and one can out at any time, it is fun to watch. By the way I get the point about placing pitches also...and good pitching stops good hitting, but thats where depth comes in, and the guy near the bottom who unexpectedly starts that rally that gets in a pitchers head...that is also fun to watch.

My kids hits in the 9th hole and hits over .400. And we played Field and did not use out top pitching and they hit a couple of HR's off of us. Alot depends on pitching and field dimensions too for HR stats. Some kids can hit HR's and then when they see the upper level pitching they are way behind on the fast ball. Field has a good team but there are some other good teams out there also. On another note - this weather is just awful! Be lucky to get all the conference games in. Who knows maybe all games will be cancelled due to the Swine flu as that is happening across the nation. Good luck all as playoffs approach - one and done makes it very interesting indeed.

I agree, you make very good points. Wouldn't it be great to have .400 hitters 1 - 9? On your field, the only dimensions that are considered short is LF and RF, but your power alleys are deep so I'm confident that there aren't any cheap HR's in that park.

Congrats and good luck the rest of the way!
