I will be posting live updates of all Flyin to the Hoop games today, starting with Lakota East vs. Sidney. This game tips-off in about 17 minutes.
Game just tipped...
No score 6:00
Lakota East calls timeout, as each team is unable to get a offensive rebound and have been limited to one-shot possessions.
1-0 Sidney 4:43
Do you know Sidney's record this year?
Three-point play by Mike Boyd of Lakota gives Lakota East a 4-1 lead with 3:30 left.
Baket by R.J. Leppord (?, not listed on roster, number 20) with 2:10 left gives Lakota a 8-1 lead.
Timeout Sidney.
Believe his last name is Lepport.
10-1 at the end of the first quarter. Sidney goes the entire quarter without a FG, their one point being a FT from Zach Yinger.

I hope the Jackets pick it up. Can't afford to get down by alot early on.
Sidney's first FG of the game comes with 4:23 left in the second quarter off of Zach Michael.
16-8 Lakota East.

His name is R.J. Leppert.
Three-pointer from Josh Topp with 4:01 pulls Sidney closer at 16-11, causes Lakota to call at timeout.

Looks like they're picking up. Lucky to only be down by nine!
20-11 3:13
Make that 24-11 thanks to two FT's and a three-point play all from Mike Boyd. 2:48 left.
Lakota East really has trouble passing the ball.
Still up by ten at halftime at 28-18.

Fortunate to be only down 10...
I heard Topp limped to the Locker room. Hopefully he's alright because that would be a hit to the Jackets outside shooting.

Mike Boyd is the real deal. Overall, East has a good nucleus of young players...4 sophomores and 2 juniors. They will be real competitive next year. Vickers is a tough coach though...has a tendency to run good players off.
Topp is looking good in the game now; seems to be able to get up and down the court okay.

Jackets giving up too many second chance opportunities.

Boyd is very good all-around. Quick, too. I look for them to be back at this in the next few years with their young talent.
Daniel Lyons scores 6 of Lakota's first ten points in the quarter, put Lakota up 38-18 with 4:44 left in the third.
Sidney isn't seeing a lot of second-chance opportunities, either.
Lakota East leads 47-28 at the end of the third quarter.

Sidney has a history of not shooting well in bigger arenas. Which is usually why they are out of the Tournament at UD in the first 2 rounds.
55-40 4:41 Lakota East. Game looks like a done deal.
Yinger nets his thirteenth and fourteenth free-throws of the night with 2:20 left in the game.
57-44 by the way, Lakota.

Sidney can only go as far as their shooters will take them. Unfortunately, Just didn't shoot very well today.
Sophomore Zach Yinger finishes in double digits for the 12th straight game.
GOOD LORD! I just received the stat sheet of this game, and Sidney shot 9-47 (19.1%) overall FG!

Ice cold...
Not much to say about it. Just couldn't hit the shots tonight. They did shoot close to 80% at the FT Line but it wasn't near enough.
Why was Sidney in this tourny? They havent proved themselves as a good team. I would rather see a better dayton team in this game.

I doubt any team would turn down the offer to play in the event. As for your comment, Of course it's easy for you to talk when you are a Wayne fan. Sorry that we do not have a large area to rake in the kind of talent that you possess.
Note: That was not meant in a disrespectful manner, It's fact that Huber Heights district is bigger than the Sidney school district.

I remember when Sidney was a thorn in Wayne's side up at Hobart during tourney time back in the day.
I remember when the FTTH had tournament brackets but they had to abandon that after certain teams refused to play on Sunday. I think they need to go back to that format and just not bring in teams that won't play.
The teams weren't that bad this year but the matchups have been mostly blowouts and better matchups would of been better.....Why not Findlay Prep vs Montrose? Seems like a no brainer....I guess they want an Ohio team in every game this year as years before their wasn't and the gym's were near empty.....
One more day of this.....hopefully some competative games!!!!!

i dont care how big the district is. example graham. it should be the top teams or team that have been legit for years. wayne hasnt been good for numerous years thats why they didnt get invited to the first 3 FTTH. The top talent should attend. What scouts want to come when sidney and LE are playing. waste of exposure for other talent. it is only high school basketball, but i wonder why springfield wasnt there when they have a good team that just needs a little smoothing out. plus they have 3 good college prospects that i know of. and sidney 1 yinger. it doesnt make sense.

I do think that would be the thing to do. Clearly there were problems with the matchups this year, which I am sure is a hard thing to do since you are matching up teams from different leagues/regions/states and only have prior years performances to go on which can obviously change year over year. Brackets would be the way to go to at least ensure some quality matchups after perhaps lopsided first round games.
Garfield Heights played a nice game against Findlay Prep and the Trotwood/Montrose Christian was good as well. Like you I would have liked to have seen Findlay Prep against Montrose, also FP against Northland. San Diego looked like a legit top team in this event prior to losing its coach and 3 players the day before the event, so coming in that looked to be a solid matchup so you can't hold that against the organizers.
All in all I enjoyed the first 2 days and hope this well-run event continues to grow.

That's funny...Your definition of hasn't been good is what? When was the last time Wayne was .500 or below?
A good season around here is a winning season regardless if its 11-9.
The bottom line is there are 6 other high schools in Shelby county other than Sidney including 1 private school. With the failed levy, Who would want to pay $400 to play sports at Sidney when they could go to a Anna or Fort Loramie and play for alot less?
Besides, I don't really give damn what you think about our participation in the event. Our kids deserved a chance to be recognized IMO.
That's all I have to say about that....Oh and Good luck to the Warriors tonight against Findlay Prep.
