what size glove for youth ages
Something small and light, especially for infield. Too many kids lugging big heavy mens softball mitts. Also for smaller kids you may not want something too stiff (such as pro preferred) because they may not have the hand size or strength to control or close a mitt like that. I would suggest 11-12" and anything comparable to an A2000, that seems like a nice light but high quality mitt. A hand-me-down from a high school or college player works great also because they'll be broken in and easier to catch with.

First off make sure you are looking at the youth models, they will have smaller hand openings so the glove isn't sliding off all of the time.
And exactly like Caju posted, something already mostly broken in that is small/light.
For an infielder, look at a webbing similar to Rawlings' I-Web:

For an outfielder, look into a little bigger glove but still not a mens softball mitt, something like Rawlings' Trap-Eze:

The A2000 costs $200. My kid had to wait until HS to get that one. Great glove though. He used Nike leather in his younger days.

Easton and Louis. Slugger both have an excellent line of gloves in the 45-60.00 range. Champro Sports also makes a nice glove, just not name brand but good quality. Look for an e-z flex hinge or something similar, also these gloves in this range are preoiled and easy to break in. Be very LIMITED in use of glove oil so as not to get glove too heavy or "floppy". We always recommend a 12" or 12.5" glove for 10-12 year old kids.
Sometimes all you need to do is ask, we asked a few hs and college players if they had a used glove they'd sell to us and they supplied nice gloves and wouldn't take any money. But even if you had to come up with 50-60 bucks for a good used glove that was still nice it'd be worth it. College players are usually given gloves every two years or so and they'll often use those as backups so you may be able to pick up something like that in a like new condition but broken in a bit.

Nokona is an excellent choice also. The Buffalo Hide is very soft and manageable.
