Bonafideplayer, I never asked how amazing basin was gonna be this year, all I asked was were who the top seniors are. And to say that a team will win a state title easily is just ridiculous

Easily... yeah right! Canton Central Catholic beat you with their pinky finger last year.. You need to get your head straight and have some respect for the game... If the Badin team thinks like that you won't be going anywhere.. But I wish you the best of luck.

HAHAHA thats pretty funny. Canton Central Catholic is coming back with 4 starting seinors and Taylore Baker the only sophmore to play last year. That might be the most outrageous comment ever to be posted.......o wait did they beat you 8-0 last year......thats right you only had three hits

ok "DUDE" lets get some statistics for you.
1.Canton Central Catholic has made it past the districs 15 years consecutively
2.Central got lucky, their top two pitchers had era's under 1.5, Taylore Baker is returning
3.If Central got lucky, the score would not have been 8-0, Central wouldnt have set a record for most scored runs in the playoffs, Central would not have beaten an outstanding team in Coldwater, and Hamilton Badin would not have only gotten three hits
4.Doug Miller, Central's head coach has over 500 wins in his career
5.Central Returns Seinors including three on the mound, one in the outfield, and at both corner positions.
5.CENTRAL IS NOT IN A LEAGUE...do some dang research
6.Badin needs to quit sitting on their butts and crying about losing and give the Crusaders some respect.... let alone a congratulations

Definetly, Rod and Schraer are 4 year starters (Schraer got jipped early on though) and Rexroat would have been one if he didnt get hurt. Kenny is also up their with his arm.

Yes these 4 guys are real good and they should go on to be productive playing college ball.
watch out for bowling green for next 4 years or so,especially with the likes of pitzullo, obrien, and kibby coming into the program . they are flat out studs.bg will dominate the mac
I wish these guys the best but that being said, just a little reminder: The Mac is full of studs who dominated in high school. Every roster has All State guys. There are lots of "Studs" who get to the Mac schools and don't see a whole lot of playing time.:)

Edwards from Edgewood, buckeye scout 100, p.o.y. in league, he only got about 20 at bats his freshman year at Toledo, he did have an elbow problem his senior year in hs but he was flat out a player in high school/ summer ball. It seems very few freshman play considerable innings unless someone gets hurt ahead of them. This why some opt to play d-2/3, JUCO and NAIA for a few years then transfer in to a D-1 program. Actually had a coach recommend this path to a player I know from a few years ago and it worked out well for him.

Would you say then that very few players are ready to play at the D-1 level coming out of high school? PLayers are basically starting over at the bottom of the totum pole competing for playing time with older players who have been in the system longer than them.

I have found that a lot of incoming freshman are not ready to play because they are not physically gifted BUT rather they are not MENTALLY ready to make the transition. I have seen a lot of guys have a lot of success in high school and in the summer and even fail at times but still continue to play b/c they are the best player. College coaches usually have a short leash and do not wait for kids to come out of slumps. When this happens, I have seen a lot of kids NOT know how to handle the situation and they crawl in a hole. Some never get out and hence they never reach their full potential.
I believe most of it depends on the programs the kids have come out of when entering college. To be on scholarship at a DI or DII school most of those kids have the ability to compete at that level. The kids that seem to show up and play from day one come from very competitive HS programs and summer programs. Just because a summer or HS program has a great won/loss record does not necessarily equate to be ready for that level of college either, but rather the GCL/GMC type kids or those that play in a Midland type organization. There are exceptions to this, obviously, but those kids are used to competing at a high level, whether it be for playing time or to win a ballgame.

Agreed. The kid who realistically can say he belongs at that level BEFORE he steps on the field in fall of his freshman year in college can compete for immediate playing time. That player will be fundamentally sound and will have played against the best competition, not just in this city but across the country while growing up.
The first part of competing for a spot in college in realizing that you belong there.

This is a good point but when they reach college they will be competing against kids who are 3-5 (redshirts and injuries) years older than them. This is diffeenet than kids their same age and maybe a year older even if they played against the best kids across the country.
You have to be very special, especially in d1 to get on the field often as a frosh.

Haha I'm not Brett McKinney. I just watch GCL baseball. If you read my posts I know a little bit about each team in the GCL not just Badin and I'm not even from badin.
The thread is starting to get away from the original intent. Let's get back to the topic.

With all of the names tossed around out here with the moniker of 'stud', does this qualify any of them as a D-1 caliber player? If so, shouldn't they all have been signed in the early signing period? If they haven't been does this then mean that 'stud' is in the eye of the beholder or that the scouts of the D-1 schools have missed the boat? The most recent name being bantered about is Brett McKinney. Curious, did he sign in the early period? Where or why not?
munoz45
01-23-09, 11:47 AM
Good point you made about early signings, some coaches wait until fall ball is over to see their needs for the future, other programs have a grasp and go sign what they perceive as a need. McKinney was reported to have gotten hurt in football and maybe that delayed his signing, he is a very good pitcher, maybe the best Senior in Butler County.
