Has anyone began their indoor throwing programs yet? I just came back from Houston, TX at Ron Wolforth's pitching clinic and their throwing program is nearly everyday! I said throwing not pitching, there is a difference. Vanderbilt's pitching coach amongst many other college coaches were there. I now realize we just don't throw enough up here, they also throw indoors into a pad or net so it can be down in cold weather.

Ron's program has had over 80 guys throw 90 mph and what i liked is that they emphasize more of the physical requirements of pitching and not just mechanics. The use of 60' heavy ropes and chains is an example, and also 2 lb balls.

What is everyone else doing now?

I coach a 12U competitive team. We had 2 practices in December, will have 4 in Jan, and then start heavy in Feb with 2 pracices a week 2 hours each.

I have a instructor that played pro ball to work with my pitchers. I have them work on proper throwing techniques with their arms/legs and then the boys work with the instructor on what each boy is having trouble with. He do do long toss and have them work with a medicine ball

I also have a batting net set up in my basement and work with the boys on their swings. I would love to start practice alot more in December/Jan, but indoor practices are expensive. Teams down south can just go outside, so they are able to start earlier. Obviously, if you are in high school/college you have indoor places to go. Our regular season games start May 1. We will ahve 18 season games, but are using alot of the money we raised on tournaments. My team will basically play about 12-15 games before our season starts which will help them get game ready

I umpire HS ball and our first scrimmage is only 1 month away. Two weeks of scrimmages and then it is on. East Texas weather is crazy. This morning at 6AM it was 65 degrees. A cold front coming through and now at 1PM it is 46 and dropping. I just pulled up our weather for the next few days and the high lows are 42/38, 56/38,63/34,and 67/47. Early in the season we can be in short sleeves on a Sat. game (day) and jackets and gloves in the evening. Last year in the middle of April I had a DH cancelled because of snow. Gosh I am getting excited. Nothing like a kid throwing high eighties who has an ump running for their lives. LOL.

We have to wait until the last weekend in March and hope there isn't any bad weather but this past season that didn't stop a tournament we were in. 40 degrees and constant rain all day and they never called the games. They wanted to make their money. I would love to just have 50 degree weather, but come summer I don't enzy the summers. I lived in Austin for a while and they were hot and humid
