There is an all day high school basketball thing on sat dec 13th at the chevy centre. As i know of so far it features Boardman at Campbell at 12... Boardman plays Lakeside later at 730 and Campbell plays Cardinal Mooney later. Ursuline is also involed but i only know they Sharon so far. If anybody has any more teams please post! Any thoughts about this?? I think it's great because i get to watch basketball all day and should be some good games.

As I pointed out in another thread... you're WAY WRONG on your who/what/where/when.
You're gonna sit at the Chevy Centre a LONG time before you see the Spartans appear on that floor.

Kind of a weak schedule. Harding virtually has all the star power.

Columbiana plays McDonald on Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. as part of an all day thing, don't know the rest of the games.

Any idea what the new name is going to be for the arena? I saw in the Dispatch a week ago that Chevy is dropping the naming rights in an effort to save money and look better in front of Congress.

hard to say what farrell will bring to the table. they just lost to clairton last friday in the pa. state football semifinals. im sure they probably had some basketball players on the football team??

I agree, but as long as I see "my boys" play, I'm good.

I think that it is great to see local teams playing each other, which doesn't always happen in football.
I also hope that they allow you to watch all of the games for on ticket. It isn't as much about the money, but the stands stay full and the atmosphere is better. The last few years they were making people wait to enter if another game hadn't finished.

Would be nice to see the Boardman boys or at least the girls(heck they've been the best program in the area for 30 years) get a shot to play at the Chevy Centre. Not sure if that is more the promoter's doing or Boardman's. Hard for me to believe at least the girls team wouldn't be willing to play a game vs Canfield, Ursuline, Howland, etc there. I mean, really, that girls schedule is pathetic and the boys schedule is pretty average.
Too bad they couldn't have put Harding vs Poland as the feature game. I guess the goal is to get all the city teams playing there, but on the girls side it makes for some bad games. If you're going to do an event, do one that at least puts out some good games w/ schools that have some followings...games like: Poland-WGH, Boardman-Mooney, Ursuline-Farrell, Canfield-New Castle(PA), etc and on the girls side Boardman-Canfield, Ursuline-Howland...or teams like Salem, Struthers, West Branch, etc...you would get nice crowds for that and it would actually be worth sticking around for more than just your team's game. Doesn't seem like anything they do at the Chevy Centre is done right...too bad its a great facility. I'd like to see them push for a D-1 or D-2 district on the boys side there.

Is Boardman's hoops program better off financially if they host their own games instead of playing at a neutral site (i.e. do they get big enough gates at home that they'd be losing money by playing games at the Chevy Center and having to split money with all the other schools)? Otherwise, I agree that it would be nice to see all the teams in the Valley play at the Chevy Center and put their talent on display for the entire hoops community to enjoy.

Boardman used to draw HUGE crowds at home... many times selling out (2000+). But unfortunately, that was many years ago.
Unless the opponent is a marquee name, the Spartans normally draw no more than 500-700 fans. I've been out there a number of times when it was a LOT less.

Had to literally talk the ticket girl into letting me in earlier, If I remember correctly, The chaney girls were the last girls game prior to the boys playing and she was hesitant to let me go in early.

YNGC you may be right about that. i had a friend whom i recall going for the girls and boys games and i think it was $6 for all the girls games and $6 for all the boys games.

It wasn't as much about the money, but I would have liked to see the arena as full as possible for as many of the games as possible.

Kind of related to the subject of local teams playing(or not), why is there no Poland-WGH matchup this year? I'm guessing its more Poland's doing, but its hard to understand why they would be willing to play at a usually strong NC Hoover(where its tough to win), but wouldn't play Harding. The Hoover game will be a good one for them, but you would think the potential revenue from a WGH game would be much more enticing. They probably could've split revenue at Chevy Centre and got 4k+ fans for that game.
