Now, through baseball, I'll be busy on the forums. The basketball board is getting a lot of traffic.

Lowellville didn't play their best tonight against Heartland Christian down in the 'Ville. Too many turnovers tonight for the Rockets and they struggled a bit through the game shooting. The Lion's got real real hot from behind the arch in the second half shooting well over 50 percent. But in the end Mauro Amendola stepped up and hit shot after shot to kill a late Heartland run.

In the End the Rockets won by a score of, 65-55 I believe.

Good way to start off the year for the Rockets, now they have to get ready for a HUGE game Friday @ Wellsville, Rockets will have to step it up a bit if they wanna pull this one off but I BELIEVE they are more than capable. Should be a THRILLER!!!

L-TRAIN makin' their first road trip of the season so be ready Tigers to hear some noise!!!!

Leetonia 74-51 over Lisbon. Selway with 26 Trummer 15 and 10. This game started out huge with a 25-23 first quarter where the blue devils made a 3/4 court shot which is apparently worth 4 points now because prior to the shot the score was 23-21 in favor of the Bears. Leetonia took a decent lead into halftime and pullled away using the bench for most of the 3rd and 4th quarter. Lisbon has a nice team they just need to put it all together. Leetonia at McDonald Friday should be game of the week!!!

but again scrapper..... at this point in the season...isnt EVERY team still in the ''team to beat come tourney time'' picture?? im sure a team we thought would be mediocre at best will upset a good team in the tourney....it happens every year. youre thinking too far ahead. You're not thinking of the team mcdonald is playing next, but the season and tournament as a whole. taking them a game at a time is what makes the season and tournament great. its what makes history. its what, in my opinion, makes sporting events more fun. the season.

Wellsville 84 Lowellville 52

After the first quarter, the game was never closer than 20, and Lowellville never led. Lowellville made the mistake of trying to run with the Tigers.

Johnston, Lombardozzi, and Dessaro were on absolute fire! Johnston had to have 5 or 6 3's, and as a team Wellsville had to have around 12 or 13. Wellsville outrebounded Lowellville by a large margin, especially on the offensive side. Wellsville had countless second and third chances.

Johnston and Lombardozzi led the Tigers in scoring.

Wellsville played without Carter for the first quarter.

The scoreboard was malfunctioning, so there were no individual scores posted, but Johnston had to be close to 30, and Lombardozzi had to be at 20 for the Tigers. Carter and Desarro led the Tigers in rebounding.

Yea I agree with every thing you said VanillaIce, Wellsville played unbelievable that was one of the greatest shooting performance I have ever seen in my entire life, only second to beatlle from McDonald 4 years ago, but they had to shoot atleast 70 percent, easy.

Right off the back Wellsville just sucked all the momentum out of the Rockets starting out with those two big threes which was big because it did not take the crowd out of the game for Lowellville but it definitely cooled us down a bit.

Which by the way I can't believe a school with a basketball team that good has absolutely no student section to show for it. We did the same thing we did at Springfield, treated their gym as our own the entire game, none of the 100 Wellsville students took action... Except when they thought they could throw a mini basketball at me because they were jealous of our sweet student section. Which I noticed at the last second and snag it right before it popped me in the eye. Nice throw by the way whoever threw it, too bad i was just to quick. I correctly disposed of the ball to where it belongs, the trash.

Anyway, great game played by Wellsville and surprisingly outstanding performance by Nunzio he played a great game. Hopefully the Rockets can get back on the right track next time. If they could and Wellsville doesn't shoot lights out it could be a closer game I hope.

Sounded like a great game and like I said in a previous post, Wellsville's student section isn't what it used to be a few years back and back in the 70s... Its the first game though so once the season gets going, I'm sure they'll get things together!

Congrats Wellsville 2-0.. Keep It Going!

Hahaha, nice catch man, I saw that, (but so did the other 800 people there.

I give your student section credit, all 50 of you guys kept the intensity up, even though it was never close. I bet home games are crazy up there!

The Johnston kid was just amazing last night. Everything he touched turned to Gold. Not only was he nailing some 3's, but he was being aggressive driving to the bucket.

Lombardozzi was the same way in the first half, neither of these guys could miss.

I'll give Lowellville credit, when they did shoot, they shot well, making quite a few 3's of there own.

And yes, I bet the game in Lowellville is a close one. I'm looking forward to that one!

Does anyone play defense for the rams????? they gave up 83 then 90.......

nah, defensive transitions dont exist in mineral ridge, ohio.

they should have the gonzaga-days adam morrison t shirt that says ''IF IT WASNT FOR OFFENSE, I'D PLAY DEFENSE.''

but in all seriousness, in any high school basketball game 72 points has GOT to be enough to win. we know ridge can score, its defense thats the problem.

12-15-08, 01:44 PM
I was at neither game but ridge did play two teams thats goal is to outscore you rather than stop you, playing Mcdonald switching to the same style as Columbiana and then playing the Clippers. I think we will learn more about their defense against a team like East Palestine who they play on tuesday. If they give up 80 to them then your right their defense is very bad but I am not willing to say that they don't play defense just yet.

Don't base the quality of Lowellville's English teachers off of this kids post. And don't base the basic knowledge of Lowellville people off of this kids post.

I think it's a little bit early to be talking about champs for anybody, more less Lowellville. Yea I mean if the Rockets win every game they will be champs but I think you should slowed down and take things one game at a time. A win versus Reserve would be a good start but Reserve will be feeding off a big win Tuesday so they'll be bringin their A game

Lowellville just played a great all around game. Senior Anthony Schrialdi stepped up and scored 14 points in the 4th quarter and Mike Basisita had 16 points and a lot of rebounds. If Lowellville plays like they did today, they will be competitive in every game that they play. And Lowellville is currently 4-0 at home

I only got Lowellville down for 3 games so far at home and 1 away
they are 3-1 and 3-0 @ home but..

Wellsville beats Lowellville by 20+

What other teams don't realize is that there is not a weak player on Loweville's team and that during any given game, someone will step up. Yes, we're a young team, but these young men have learned the game well. We may not have height but these kids have speed and see the court well. They are unselfish and have realized that they need each other to win games. Anthony Schiraldi, the only senior, has demonstrated great leadership for this team. The juniors, Mauro, Joe, Mike, Pat, Dennis, are the work horses and they are getting the job done.. what ever it is for that particular game. Then you have the sophomores, Anthony, Tony, Mike and Mike who have complimented this team so well and get a good amount of playing time. They unleash havoc on that court which I don't think other teams expected. Mike Matisi had a great game against Western Reserve with 12 points and 5 assists and deserves a shout out.
Congrats to Coach Mike Mangine and his team for a great win. IT was a great game. The student section is awesome and I hope you guys don't get in trouble for bouncing on the bleachers!!

I only got Lowellville down for 3 games so far at home and 1 away
they are 3-1 and 3-0 @ home but..

I think that he was referring to the exhibition game we played versus East Palestine where we beat them by 10. It wasn't a real game toward the record but both teams treated it as one. But you are correct 3-0 at home officially.

I will say I was a surprised on how well the Rockets played. They played a way I haven't seen out of them yet. Tough. They were all over the place BOXING OUT!!! Something we haven't seen much of. Great inside play by Mike Basista, if he can continue playing tough down there the Rockets will have a much easier time. Also Anthony Schiraldi stepped up huge in the 4th quarter to seal the deal. And Sophmore Anthony Alfano finally gained some confidence, stepped up and had a great game even with a few blocks in there. Overall great job by the Team and coach Mangine. It will be interesting to see next saturdays game vs Springfield, should be a good one.

If ridge plans on winning a few games they need to grow fast be cause united absoulutly killed on the boards. The out rebounded them by 20+ and almost had three gurys with a double-double, Lease 17pts and 9 boards, Walker with 15pts and 20 boards, and not with boards but assists Ramus 12pts and 11dimes

I think that the lopsided loss had a lot to do with it being the first road game for a young team. Also, Wellsville was just on fire that night. If im not mistaken Wellsville missed only 3 shots the entire first half.

I don't know if you heard about the Lowellville vs. Springfield game but it is definitely a candidate for game of the year. Lowellville was up 50-43 with 45 seconds left then the game got interesting. Springfield hit 2 three pointers to be down 1 with 6 seconds left. They foul Amendola and he goes to the line and misses both free throws. Springfield gives the ball to Jim Zubick who is fouled with 4 seconds left to shoot 2 free throws. Zubick makes them both and then we inbound the ball, get it to schrialdi, and he drains a half court shot as time expires to win the game 53-51. The student section was going insane and was on the court instantly as the ball went through the net. This has to go down as one of the greatest Lowellville vs. Springfield games in history.

i had a discussion last night with an old coach from Reserve who is helping with the jr. high program and we figured out that they are 0-7 this season, they did not win any last season(0-21) which puts Coach Underhill at 0-28.

the coach before Underhill was Dan Ewing, who was a WR guy who i played for and we didn't think they won any games his last season, which means back to back 0-21 seasons, which would make it atleast 49. we were not certain if Ewing won a couple of games or not, so we decided on a ball park of 40+ straight games.

if i'm not mistaken, JM has not won a league game in three years, which would be atleast 42 straight league games and what we think is an overall streak of 50+ games, but aren't certain...

i talked with a kid who graduated last year from reserve and he said JM's last win he thought was his sophomore year, which would mean three years... i thought i heard somewhere during football season that if they lose every game this season, they would be around 75 straight losses...

3sport
01-07-09, 01:12 PM
so i just did some homework... The Blue Jays lost 36 straight games before Coach Underhill was hired. They went 0-21 for Ewing, who took over for Sachire, who, if my math is correct, lost his last 15 games, most of which were league games. They went 0-21 last season in Underhills first season, which means going into this season, they had lost 57 straight. So far this season, they are 0-7... which puts the magic number at 64 straight games...

Must be something in the water in the Lisbon area... nice town, but their sports teams struggle BIG TIME. I remember a pretty decent football team 6 or 7 years ago at BL (made the playoffs I think) and another at Lisbon (10+ years??) that also got in the playoffs... but BOTH of their hoops programs must be painful to follow. :dang:

I don't EVER remember them having a good run (more than two years in-a-row) down there.

If we're talking basketball, Beaver Local had a real nice run for a long while 11's. Several 15+ win seasons within the last 10-12 yrs or so. They had a streak of 3 or 4 seasons where they beat Wellsville both games, and played some very tough teams, including East Liverpool during their prime. I believe the 97-98 team started off with a winning record and it went on for probably a good 6 or 7 years of winning records.

If we're talking football, Beaver Local went from bad to great. Several 0-10 season, followed by several playoff appearances and 8,9, and 10 win season. Rich Right completely changed the football culture there.

In Lisbon, the last few years of football and basketball are a rarity. They are usually good at everything, especially football. Looking at the last 15-20 years as a whole, the last three are just out of the ordinary.

Leetonia 65
McDonald 70

This game was back and forth for 3 quarters. The Bears beat themselves this time by turning it over in half court and getting beat on rebounds. The press and pressure trapping from McDonald was nowhere to be found. Once Leetonia got through the press they would make an unforced error and turn it over in excitement.

This game was 47-47 the start of the 4th quarter. Mcdonald went on a little run but the Bears climbed back to make it a 1 point game late in the 4th. A steal and a missed layup by the Bears would have tied it at 65-65 with under a minute left but Luke Newton's lay up went in and out. This was the best game I have seen all year and the officials didn't blow it for once.

I was at the game at Southern and Lowellville just could not score consistantly tonight. I really don't think Southern did anything special or better than they have been doing and has figured a way out of their funk they have been in this season, just tonight Lowellville had a bad game. This might be the last win of the season for the Indians because they have their toughest games of the season still ahead of the. southern is a difficult place to play because the lighting is really bad. it almost looks like a yellowish glow. i'm not surprised the rockets didn't shoot well, the probably couldn't see the hoop!

Great wins for both Southern and Sebring! Congrats!

Those will be two tough away games for Wellsville. Looking forward to them.

The lights sort of remind me of the old Crestview gym I can remember some of the guys I played with even getting sick down there. Its no excuse though Southern has a couple of kids who can shoot well and Diaz has a good first step going to the hoop.

Mr. MUC - I agree it's no excuse, the lighting is the same for both teams. It was really just more of an observation. At least I never saw anyone upchuck at SL like you saw at crestview!

definately, id say a 36 point blow-out had something to do with the lights...for sure!

having been in that gym before, i can definately say its not the most "pleasant" but other opposing teams will go in there and pull out a game from time to time. so to say that dim lighting had any effect on a 36 pt thrashing is fairly weak.

come on man give the guy a break he already said it was an observation not an excuse. I am sure he would agree that a 36 point beating is what it is. You have to admit the lighting is "different" in that gym... Again nobody is making excuses just making a point about the lighting. If I were a coach going to play there I would probably practice with half the lights off or something haha

Wellsville misses half court shot at end!
Intense game! Mike Johnston was on fire
from the 3 point arch! Funny thing is, we went
20-20 from the FT line against WR and tonight
we struggled but overall it was a very intense
fun game. Both teams played great!

where's the love? being shot at because i'm the new kid? ouch. i didn't create my account for that specific post and by the way, i've posted often on other sites. yes, a 30+ pt loss is a beatdown, no excuses. just not a fan of the lighting at southern and i've not seen another gym quite that dim and yellow. peace out.

A great win for the Rockets getting their first road win and a big one at that. Especially at Western Reserve it was as good confidence boost for the struggling Rockets!!

very nice win, especially at Reserve like you said. Now the Rockets just have to show up at home against Leetonia.

Newer gyms do seem to have better lighting and are painted brighter. Remember when Southern built their new school the state would not allow for a new high school gym and their was only money for slight renovations to the gym. This is not an excuse for the lighting just a fact.

People continue to say Ep hasnt been tested all year and yet they have still not slipped up. Can United and Columbiana say the same(SR for united, and Springfield for Col)?

True. EP is very, very tough at home so i dont expect them to lose at home. But its very hard to win at United and Columbiana as well so thats why i said they could lose 2 or 3 games.

It'll be very interesting if Springfield can knock them off on Tuesday then United can beat them on Friday. 3 teams tied at top would make this league even more thrilling.
