I am not sure what Fenwick has back for this year, but they have won the GCL North two years in a row. I think they have a few solid players back. I know it is not a Badin streak, but they have only been in the GCL for a couple of years.

Fenwick should be very strong this year. They did lose some key players last year but they still have some strong seniors this year who should lead the team. There is no one else in the north who is really that good so a .500 record should be able to win it.

What is the issue with Fenwick's catcher? IS he not going to play like McKnney from Badin or is this speculation?

Was Purcell the last team to ein the league over Badin? I know they did in 2000, did they in their state championship year in 2003?

Purcell shared the GCL title with Badin in 2000, in 2001 Alter and Badin shared, and in 2003 McNick and Badin shared it. The last time someone won it outright over Badin was NEVER. That is amazing that Badin has been champions or co-champions every year. Now Purcell, Bacon, McNick, and Badin make up the GCL Central by the way.

are you questioning if goubeaux is physically able to play or are you questioning his ability? He is a stud catcher and would be a tremendous loss if he couldn't play. Could you please clarify? I hadn't heard of any injuries..

I know for a fact that Craig Goubeaux is not injured and he will be playing this spring. He is determined to bring a third straight GCL North title to the Falcons and will be tearing it up in the spring.

Did you hear from someone that he was injured or not going to play? I'm curious from who you heard that and what you heard

Fenwick my boy Craig is a monster behind the plate, the kid is a brick wall, he can rake at the plate too!

Craig is a stud catcher prolly one of the best if not the best around here.....ive played with craig for 2 straight years and he is a wall behind the plate and he also can RAKE.!!

Fenwick also has a key sophomore pitcher who went 8-0 during the summer playing for the Diamond Stars. Also they have another senior pitcher Addison Wellens who throws pretty hard and hopefully he can be more consistent than last year. All in all they should be pretty good.

He hurt his shoulder in the playoffs for football. He couldn't play in their last game. Not sure if he needs surgery of if it was just a strain.

Now that baseball is getting back into the swing of things, let's get some insight on this year's teams. New faces, upper classmen that will contribute, under classmen that will be leaned on, etc...
Alter- tough SS is returning
CJ- lost a stud pitcher, but should bring it with a couple more
Carrol- return a young line up and pitcher, but lost a solid CF
Fenwick- return a good catcher and their #1 Pitcher, but lost some good hitters
Every year is a battle... I guess time will tell

Might want to try spelling Carroll correctly....and btw, their Senior centerfielder has been there two years. Not sure why you think they are losing him. Maybe you better check your facts.

My apologies regarding the spelling.
The center fielder being a senior is a surprise to me. I saw them play a few times last year and he played like a senior last year. He was impressive. Thanks for the info, no need for the attitude.

Yeah, sorry.....was having a bad day. Didn't mean to sound snippy.
Carroll should have much improved defense (which was a big sore spot for them last year), and slightly better pitching. Not sure the hitting will be much better, but I expect they will improve on last year. They've only had 2 losing seasons in the last 14 or 15 years, and that was last year and the year before. I like our coach and I like a lot of the younger players who will be fighting for varsity playing time.

Oh, and another thing.....why the HECK are we referred to as "Dayton Carroll"? I know WE didn't start it, but it seems to have gotten around. I hate it. I wish the school would push calling us "Archbishop Carroll" or "John Carroll" or "Archbishop John Carroll"....I know it helps identify where we're from, but I'm amazed by how many people from across the state just assume we're a public school. I wish we'd do something to let people know we're Catholic. I'm proud to be in the GCL with some of the great schools in SW Ohio.

Goubeaux is actually the worst player I have ever seen play. He can't block a ball and can't hit for anything. He should probably be on JV as a Senior. Fenwick is going to be terrible just because of Craig.

It is comments like this that make me believe that you are Goubeaux fishing for a compliment or just doing all you can to stir the pot to get his name out there.
He is a solid catcher, get over yourself gcl8048.
How have the GCL North teams done is scrimmages? Any word...not that you can put a whole lot of value on scrimmage results.

Jdizzle, you need to settle down....its called a joke ive known Craig my whole life I was messing around. You would have to be dumb to think Craig isnt legit. But so my opinion about who is gonna win the North would have to be that its going to come down between Alter and Fenwick. I know CJ lost their number 1 pitcher from last year so I don't think they have much. Alter had a couple transfers who could help out a lot and they lost that one pitcher but have a second-team GCL pitcher coming back. Fenwick lost those two outfielders who were studs but with Craig and I know they have a couple pitchers coming back, they will still be good. Does anyone know if the Carroll number one pitcher is back? or did he graduate?

I simply read the post as is. I did not read into it that someone was joking.
I think we agree that Craig is a good player and seems to have his head on his shoulders well.
I thought Carroll's #1 was a younger right hander, but I have been wrong in the past about assuming about some of Carroll's players.
It should be a real dogfight to see who wins this division of the GCL. It may come down to who can pull out a quality win against a non-GCL North team.
