Dont Garfield have to beat Cleve Hts or any good team 1st. They are always rated high but never get the job done.

On paper, I think most people would agree that Garfield Heights has the most talent. Whether or not they will be the best team is yet to be seen.

I thought I had heard that Paulk ended up back at Roosevelt. I heard that info AFTER the discussion in here about his transfer. I could be mistaken, but I believe it's factual that he's at Kent, '95.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Harding and Jackson both being in the Regionals. Harding got screwed last year, and if they didn't, I believe they go on and possibly win State. The 3 pointer shouldn't have counted to put the game into Overtime, and they end up losing at the last second in OT (I don't recall to?). Jackson should run through the FL, and looks to be a big time team.

thehasbeen95

Jackson's frontcourt tandem of Egner and Henninger will tough for anyone to play and plan for. Jackson is for sure a favorite in the Federal League and go far in the tourney.

hey thehasbeen. hoover beat jackson over the summer so i dnt think that jackson will win the federal league especially when they play at hoover. hoover is to tough and has the all around teamgame. they got fire power from the outside with sommers and can go to the rim and finish strong. got big post play by gross. plus, no body on jackson can stop niles evans. so jackson has no chance. so watch out

Ballboy, get the heck out of here. You're some kind of junk player for Hoover who's under the impression that Hoover is gonna be amazingly better than Jackson. Hoover's a great program, year in year out, and I doubt they'll ever have a Bad Year. But they did lose they're big time players from last year as we said in the other thread already.

THey'll have to beat Timken to go to Regionals? Last year they were up in the Cleveland District and not in the Canton District. Are they back in Canton? I would hope they would, because they belong there, but I'm not sure?

Yes ballboy don't talk about N.C. so much you guys have to first go out and prove something then people will talk about your team and maybe then your be a favorite. But keep in mind Hoover has a history of being good early and then falling off come tourney time, which is why I say the summer isn't important because its not where you start but where you finish.

I never saw them play, but he was the only freshman besides Weeks to play for them last year. They have another sophomore that looked pretty good for their JV team this summer. I would think he will get some varsity time this year. His name is Larry Nance, Jr. Maybe you've heard of his dad?

Harding will be back, but I heard that Garfield Heights is absolutely loaded. Timken is on the rise, and Cleveland Heights is always solid. It will be very interesting up north this year!

BTW, Harding, Garfield Heights, St. Eds, and another team (not sure who it is) is having a four way scrimmage in Harding's new gym next month. Should be a good one.

If my math is correct, I believe that there is exactly 1,860 seats. It's been a while since I "counted" them (adding the seats per row, multiplied by the number of rows in each section, then multiplied by the number of sections) but I believe that's the number that I came up with (I may be a little off though, but I know that it was well over 1,800). There's also a section underneath the hoop that's supposed to seat around 500 students. I doubt that it would fit that many (at least not 500 people my size, lol), but it would still push the capacity well over 2,000. It's much bigger than the old gym, so I'm hoping that we can get this gym just as loud. It was hype last year, especially with the students & cheerleaders.

BTW, if you ever come up, send me a PM ahead of time. I would be nice to meet you.

well for the record...I don't know how the coach at Roosevelt operates but I know at benedictine summer wins and lossed don't count. Coach Rob uses those games to evaluate his talent especially the freshman. so I mean if it makes a difference to you then fine. I like the play of Kent Roosevelt. the top teams should be looking over there shoulders for them. they are talented team. and thats my evaluation..not whether or not they won.

That's a great point, '95. I think too many fans put FAR too much emphasis on wins during the summer... and preseason scrimmages as well. Both periods are all about learning what your team and players CAN and CANNOT due, what lineup combinations are effective in what situations, etc.

I've seen it a thousand times. Teams sail through these "off-season" games instead of working on the fundamentals... then fall flat when the season starts. :wallbang:

I saw them play and so and so beat so and so over the summer. summer has very little to do with the regular season. If you track teams and what they do over the summer, you would see that means nothing. It might give you an idea of talent but still does not give you what you need. Think about teams that loose a lot in the summer and check for yourself.

I wouldn't say it means NOTHING. Look at Timken last year. They came out of nowhere in the summer and went on to win their first 24 games of the season.

At Columbus Northland we use the summer to see what our young players don't know. We do not collect wins or losses. The summer is for evaluation of your talent. I do not know how many games we won or loss in the summer but I will tell you this ......none of it will matter or count come December 6, 2008. That is the date of our first game of the year.

cardzfan1234

I don't think Mentor should necessarily be in the top 5 of NEO at this point with the loss of All-Ohio guard Joe Meyer, but the Cards do return all four of their other starters along with a key reserve from last year's Euclid district champs. They have a good shot at winning the LEL and the district again. Some of the top teams in the area like Cleveland Heights, St. Ignatius, and Glenville are a few that stand in the way.

Truthfully, these would be my top 5 picks...., they might not be in the actual order I would have put them in, nonetheless, I think these 5 will end up on top. You have a legit point about Garfield.:)

garfield heights is the most talented team in the state, but they will play like individuals and not go too far in the tourney

hudson should be very talented this year. dont be suprised if they win the conference and make a run at states. they have 4 starters returning, as well as every guy off the bench (only 1 senior graduated). they won almost every game this summer, including beating cleveland heights, and barberton to win the championship at West Virginia University. This was without all the football guys, and Josh Jonaitis. They also won the Steubenville tournament this summer. There lineup should be as follows:
Point- Bobby Tyler Sr. 6'2" 170
Shooting Guard- Kevin Meyer Sr. 5'8" 160/ De'Juan Harris Sr. 6'1" 185
Small Forward- Richie Piekarski Jr. 6'2" 185
Power Forward- Colin Geaney Sr. 6'7" 195
Center- Josh Jonaitis Sr. 6'7" 205
Bench- Jake Brandy Jr. 6'2" 170 S.G., Holden Smith Sr. 6'3" 180 P.F., Matt Hollenbeck Sr. 5'8" 155 P.G., Steig Carlson Soph. 5'10" 160 S.G., Sam Gedeon Jr. 5'10" 170 Guard, Zack Barley Jr. 5'10 180 Guard, Gabe Adams Jr. 6'1" 165 Post

Josh Jonaitis is receiving a full ride to division 2 Seton Hill for basketball. He got first team all conference last year. Colin Geaney is getting recruited by a ton of d2 and d3 schools, and got Hon. Mention all-conf. last year. Bobby Tyler also received hon. mention all conf. last year and has committed to UMass to play lacrosse. De'Juan Harris is also getting d2 and d3 interest for basketball after being out all last season with a knee injury. Richie Piekarski is one of the best guards on the team. Kevin Meyer is very athletic and can shoot and is probably one of the best defenders on the team. Jake Brandy is one of the best outside shooters on team. Matt Hollenbeck is one of the best defenders on the team and is a very hard worker. Holden Smith is a scrappy post player who works really hard. Steig Carlson is a great outside shooter. Sam, Zack and Gabe are all good athletes and are 3 of the hardest workers on the team.

Brink is still bench boss, correct hudsonbb27?

If so... he's won everywhere else he's been. No reason why he won't do it again.

Roscoe or any Strongsville fan, what is this year's roster looking like? I heard about the Benedictine kid, but who else is looking good. What are the names of the starters. I haven't really payed much attention to the basketball team yet.

I was just told tonight, but the other teams slipped my mind. I do know that the other teams involved are larger schools. Sebring usually makes the trip to Hudson since Clark and Brink are long-time friends. A great opportunity for the D4 Trojans to play WAY up.
