View Full Version : Will Timken Go Farther Than Last Year In The Tourney??

I think that the Trojans lineup last year was filled with more talent with davis, brown and alston but i think they have a better chance to go farther when tourney time comes around. Their schedule this yr features more division 1 teams which will help them prepare them for the future. Jus wanted to hear everyone's thoughts.

While I would love to see a Stark County team have great success, I think that Timken is going to have a difficult time repeating last years acheivement. Last year, even though they were very good going into the season, they still caught people off gaurd to an extent. This year, expectations will be even higher, hyp will be elevated, and the oppenents should be more motivated and prepared. Two consecutive 20 win regular seasons will be extremely difficult to obtain. The tournament is always tough. Despite what some posters will undoubtedly say in response, Timken players do not consider themselves as having something to prove like they did last year. The program now has its share of "groupies" who have elevated these kids and I believe it is going to be a difficult task to get them to play with the edge they had last year. Don't get me wrong, if everyone is in uniform who is supposed to be, they are going to have one of the most talented teams in the State. That doesn't mean they won't stumble.

You make some very good points. About midway through the season last year, everyone was aware of how good the Trojans were so that argument only works to a certain extent but I do agree that Timken had more to prove last year than this year. The Trojans wont have another 20-0 season thanks to the Columbus Northland Vikings but they are going to be the best team in Stark County for the 2nd straight year. Who saw this coming lol

I voted yes for the simple reason that the successes from last season should help the returning kids understand that they CAN play with just about anyone.

That's very important IMHO to a program as down-trodden as Timken had been prior to last season. Sure... they knew they had some solid players last year... but there had to have been some doubts in their heads prior to the season's start.

These kids should be much more sure of their abilities as a team as well as confidence in the coaching staff this time around.

I'm anxious to see how they come out of the gate the first few games!!

Knight I got alot of love for you but dont count those Trojans out yet against Northland they have probaly more talent on their team then the Vikings even though their big is one of the best in high school Trojans have 6'8 mand 6'9 as well with great guards and a deep bench again so I think this will be a great matchup in the making for jan 31.

I'm going to have to disagree Timken does not match up with Northlan what so ever in any aspect. Northland is far more surpeior There bigs are very very good JD Weatherspoon with offers from Xavier Purdue and many MAC schools and Jared Sullinger (Ohio State Verbal) alone is great Timkens bigs don't stand a chance against them on there best day, not to mention they have an outstanding underclassmen guard his name is Trey Burke who already has been offered by Akron he is nationally ranked as well. This is no knock to Timken at all they will have another good season , but don't compare them to Northland. Knight You knowledge is good on this subject.

Well Mr. Stark....I'll take a great deep team over a stellar starting five anyday. go look at the football poll on the Glenville St.Ignatius game. no one gave Glenville a chance and look what happend. same thing is gonna happen to Northland. Not once but twice ( if they play them in columbus). That's fine you have your opinion and I respect it. But to say Northland is FAR superior than Timken is way off. but hey the game is four months away I will see you there. p.s All the focus will be on Sullinger as it should..but timken has a very good big man as well who will play D1 somewhere by the name of Cameron Howard. I've seen Sullinger dominate the top big men in the Country and the world this AAU season but Don't be surprised if Sullinger does not have stellar performance playing against the Underrated Howard.

Don't let anyone elses opinion get you all flustered. It should be a great game. I won't go into we can do this you can't do that diatribe with anyone about a game. I expect a very tough contest when the vikings come to Canton. I will say one thing though, the Vikings have a very deep team also, not just a spectacular starting five. I honestly believe that 4 of our backups would start on many other teams. Just my opinion. I hope to see you at a great game on January 31, 2009. I wish your Timken Team the best of luck for the whole season.

Well hasbeen I started following the trojans last season and noticed they will be very good good this year specially with the addition of Jared Porrini a 6'4 guard who will stuff anyones stat sheet. With Porrini,Clarke and Moore that 123 combo will be very hard to deal with not to mention 6'8 Howard who jumps out the gym and 6'9 Rorie a year later and 6'4 Reed a year later It will be a great night in Canton Ohio on jan 31 I will be getting my ticket early boys.

Coach Vic Im with ya. I know you got a sneak preview of the Trojans in Columbus at the OSU camp this summer, and like me you know this should be a good game which the rest of the state will have their eyes on this one good luck till ya come to Canton lol.

While he may not have the dominant performance he usually does, I would be very surprised if Sullinger does not have a very good stat line. I know he is a bigger than Sullinger, but Kenny Frease had 20 points and 11 rebounds against the Trojans last year. I would expect close to the same from Sullinger.

I'll take Jackson to win the district

I am a big-time Trojan fan and I was there before last-season so to say how good they will be, I don't know yet I'll wait until I see the Jackson game. I do know how good they can be and I can promise you that they still have something to prove because now the talk will be "Can they win without Davis, Alston, Brown, and Co.?"

I think Clark will take that next step this season and show he can be a PG at the next lvl, which is the big question mark with teams that are interested in him. Can he lead a team? I think he will prove that this season.

As for Northland I wish them all the best this season and look forward to a great game between two of the states best teams.

Again I understand and respect your thoughts as well but Timken does not have aa deep bench. maybe 6 or 7 deep. Desmond Rorie will be a no factor against Northland trust me on that. Cameron Howrad v.s Jared Sullinger come on now lets get real Cam Howard needs to learn how to stay out of foul trouble Sullinger is a very smart player he will shot fake and get Timkens big guy Howard out the game with fouls. And i also forgot another nationally ranked freak athlete senior that northland has Ricky Bennet. Not to mention northland has a 7 to 8 deep bench with a very very good starting line up. Another freAK ATHLETE JD Weatherspoon check him out on youtube sometime and you can see his raw athleticsim.

Good luck to both teams throughout the season

I agree on Rorie not being a factor, unless he got tougher and way stronger since last time I seen him play.

If you think that Timken is only 6-7 deep, you are in for a big suprise when you see these Trojans play. Ofcourse they have those 6 everyone knows with Clark, Porrini, Moore, Reed, Rorie, and Howard. Here are some more names I'm sure you will here about at some time during the season Sr. A.J. Cox, Sr. Kendrick Gooden, Sr. Ernie Marshall, plus the underclassmen that will be getting Varsity action. This team may end up being deeper then last season's team.

Fan I agree Sullinger very well may get his numbers but Perry did a heck of a job slowing down this game so that frease can be affective and also Howard broke his wrist during this game as well. Frease also is alot bigger then Sullinger in height and Howard will also be alot better then he was last season and if Northland plays up and down Howard will be beating him down the floor every trip. People also may say Sulliger will pound Howard in the post using his body so it should be interesting to see this matchup I feel Timken will have the better guards,so we should be in for a special game.

Watch out for marcellus crosby as well he was the leading scorer on the undefeated JV team last year. AJ Cox is a freak athlete as well.

What about Jerrell Johnson? He looked good when I saw them this summer. Did Gooden play last year? Also, what about Corey Porrini? What kind of a role will he play?

Corey just finished rehab from knee surgery. Injury sustained while playing at North Canton against McKinley last winter. He played well at the shoot out at Ohio State for Timken earlier this summer.:)

I saw them play and was very impressed. Their only loss was to Central, which I still haven't figured out. I saw them beat a team by 30+ and that team beat Central.
