Griffin McKenzie will be a standout player for Moeller along with Tony Harris. Also, watch out for Soph Charlie Byers he may be able to get up to varsity. Mikey Stamper also returns.

1. Moeller
2. Elder
3. LaSalle
4. St. Xavier

I could be flat out wrong but that's how I see things at this point.

1 Moe
2 Elder
3 X
4 LaSalle

Elder should be greatly improved over the very average team they had last season. I think at this point Moeller and Elder could be 1A, 1B. La Salle brings back a lot of kids. Honestly, I see X struggling a lot this year. However, you never know, it is the GCL, anything can happen.

who does x even have, cause at the moment i can only think of three seniors? Gonna be young?

IT's a wide open contest this coming year in the GCL south. Although I do not think Lasalle will be in the picture. Elder, X, and Moe should all be in the mix.

I think Elder has the most returning players, but I think Moeller will be competitive and you know X is going to be playing with the usual big stiffs, haha, jk Bombers.

I look forward to seeing just how good the GCL South is this year. Will some of the teams fro the GCL North be the best teams in the entire league. Who is bringing back what in the South, what kind of experince do these teams have.

I officiated a few games X played this summer when they had their whole team there. I'm sure X will be OK, but they will be down compared to what X is used to.

I think it's Moe, Elder, LaSalle, X....

I put it this way because Moe will return a good amount of players, Elder as well. LaSalle's JV and freshmen teams looked good, some of them going on to Varsity, and X lost all but two players with Varsity experience.

Lasalle is going to be very young and scrappy. The GCL looks like it's anyones title this year. The pubs are going to be loaded (e.g. Princeton, Aiken)

I know that the GCL has a GREAT website. :crush:

Could any of you GCLS guys list the returning players for each squad?

At least take the time to do your own team. Height & this year's grade level should be included... plus any transfers.

We could really get some great pre-season discussions going with that information actually posted in this thread!! :)

Thanks in advance to those willing to help!! :)

Returning varsity for Moe:

Players who got frequent minutes:
-PG Tony Harris 5'11 145 Senior
*Quick PG has a nice jumper and can really get to the basket. Phenomenal defense as well
-F Mikey Stamper 6'4 240 Senior
*Solid D, good rebounder. Solid role player

Varsity returners who got minutes in blowouts
-PG Brian Vonderhaar 5'9 136 Senior
*Hits the 3 ball like no other
-F Jeremy Duncan 6'6 195 Senior
*Josh Duncan's brother, phenomenal athleticism. If he can work on ball handling and defense he could be a great player.
-PG Josh Morelock 5'11 140 Junior
*Great ball handling, needs to work on outside shot. Nice layup.
-G Marc Robinett 6'1 170 Senior
*I'm not really sure of what kind of player he is.
-C Griffin McKenzie 6'8 200 Junior
*D1 talent. Offers from Big East schools from what I hear. He can hit the three and jumper, and also is great down low.

Strong Underclassmen

-PG Charlie Byers 6' 150 Soph
*Phenomenal defense, decent J. Very quick and crafty. Future D1 talent. Kid works very hard.

-G Kevin Clark 6' 150 Soph
* Does everything. Probably JV (to get PT), but if there are injuries on Varsity I could see him moving up.

My projected Starting lineup:

1 Tony Harris Senior
2 Josh Morelock Jr (this could also go to Vonderhaar or Byers..Tossup IMO)
3 Mikey Stamper Senior
4 Jeremy Duncan Senior
5 Griffin McKenzie Junior

Norris, are there no other players at Moeller? Do you think Morelock and Harris will both start, are these two point guards? Also has Duncan improved over the summer. I like Moeller to win the GCL South, because of Harris alone but with this group you list, I would think that many underclassmen would get playing time for the future.

LaSalle's JV and freshmen teams looked good.

they always look good every year on those levels, then they get to varsity and they are average or below average. its the same with lasalle football.

I haven't heard anything over the summer, all of this is purely speculation and what I saw with my own eyes during last years Varsity, JV and Freshman games.

I know they return Danny MacElroy 6'7 PF/C- i know he hasent done quite as well as some people think but for some reason i think he will have monster year, now that people are so down on him i think he will be out to play harder and will be the best player in the league, he is athletic and strong enough if he gives great effort and can make just a few jump shots! They have a very good little PG in Jordan Crawford, hes quick and has great handles. Then they have 2 very good sophs to be, one i dont know the name of hes about a 6'4 strong black kid had some monster dunks in a few freshman games last year early, i believe coach flemming moved him all the way up at the end of the year. If someone knows his name id appriciate it. The other young kid i like is flemmings boy. Hes just the kinda kid you can tell grew up in a gym, good fundamentaly not the best talent but just plays extremely hard and knows how to play the game. One last thing, id love to take this time to defend coach flemming having seen LaSalle the past two years as well as some of their great teams of the past, look the guy can coach he was just in a completely loaded league last year and things snowballed a little bit on him. This year with the mix of these young guys and Danny and Crawford i believe they will play extremely hard and either win this league or be the runner-up to Elder/Moeller ( really is a 3 horse race, plus St.X is always around cause scott martin is just a great coach)! Good luck LaSalle and Coach Flemming! This will truely be a great year for this league because everyone seems about evenly matched!

I think the 6-4 Freshman from last year you are referring to is Brandon Neel.

I like Moeller to win the GCL South, because of Harris alone but with this group you list, I would think that many underclassmen would get playing time for the future.Just so's you don't think the Big Moe cupboard is bare:
Two Seniors who played as Juniors on JV last year were Rudy DeLois (6'2") and Alex Gresky (6'7"). Moeller will also have Junior Kyle Sauerland (6'6") and the uber-talented Junior Marcus Rush (6'2").
Returning from sitting out last year with an injury will be Junior Mike Nypaver (6'4").
Also, you never know how 6'8" Sophomore Kody Lehman is going to develop. Could turn into a varsity contributor if he busted his tail over the summer.
That makes for (potentially) 5 guys at 6'6" or taller.

I dont agree either. LS will have the best 2 players in the league but Fleming will figure out how to screw it up like he does every year.

All I can say is 71-18. And all the LS kids are back that got smashed and embarrassed for years to come.

Ls has the best 2 players but after that, its MOe then Elder then X.

I think Moe will win the league just on coaching alone.

The only players that you mentioned in your post that will have an effect on this years varsity team are possibly Rush and Nypaver. Maybe Gresky.

GO BLUE You hit it right on the head. Anyone who defends that moron has never seen him coach. He thinks he is a hockey coach with no offensive sense at all.

Let's look at the 3 road games in the GCL last yr, which is how you define a good coach. I believe the scores were like 60-40 at X , 70-35 at Moe, and 71-18 at Elder I may be off a bit. Are you serious the guy cant get his kids to score 40 points?????? They get beat like a drum on the road cause he cant coach. You have to be able to make adjustments and get your kids poised and organized and able to believe they can win. Not "Go GO GO GO GO GO sub, lets GO GO GO SUbs, All 5 SUBS,,,,,,,,,GO GO GO I said SUBS GOD DAm%$^, F%^%#, I said SUBS GO GO GO STOMP THE FOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

Sorry guys he is a terrible coach. But this yr Weber said it he has the best 2 players so he has to win a few games just with that, well if they dont quit.
Like Owens, Harris, another Harris, Ben Martin, Posey, etc etc etc etc

Welch, Chidemo, and Jones are a solid core for Elder, thats about all i know about them.

Elder played 3 sophmores on varsity last yr , 2 guards and Welch. They will also have Jones. It will be typical Elder Shooters hard nosed discliplne and wont quit like the lANCERS.

they will also have Schneider up as soph for sure he is big maybe 6'6

I would bet 3 sophs , Jones and Schneider will start they will be OK

X will have their worst team in yrs, but even with that they will be top 10 in city. Martin does a great job over there and never gets credit. Stenger and big goofy guy return, and 1 small guard but JV was below average Mazza if he plays will help.

This certainly is not a usual X team I would bet they finish last in big 4.

Sometimes Fleming's judgment is his worst enemy. Last season LaSalle had a home game with Aiken, I believe Senior Night. Aiken featured all city freshman 6-5 Chane Behanan who recently pledged to UC. LaSalle tried to run/press with Aiken playing right into their hands. A mix of zone was needed to deflate their athletes but Flem was not willing to adjust to matchups. LaSalle lost and I think that contributed to the disaster at Elder later.

arent you a LaSalle grad. why are you always putting down your school. they struggled a little bit last year. whos cares. i am pretty sure st x fans wont be jumping off the bandwagon if they get roughed up a little bit this year. Thats because they know that they will bounce back and be good in a year or 2 again. LaSalle has a proud basketball history and looking at the young kids they have now will be good this year again and very very good in the next few years. Last years freshman class had a very similar makeup to justin orrs class. I am so tired of everybody on here talking s*** about all these kids when they are the ones who sat in the stands during highschool and wouldnt even know what its like to play in big games. Thats all Ive got. GOOD LUCK LANCERS.

I am a LS grad and I did play in big games, alot bigger then you i would bet.

I played for this guy and I know 1st hand how nuts he is, the treatment, the language, the crazy subs, the crazy timeouts, how he forces kids to quit.

My starting center my senior yr was an all american football player and he was a very good bball player and Flem just flat ran him off by berading him every day and treating him like a piece of meat. He told him several times he was nothing and he would amount to nothing. I will never forget it.

We will see how he treats his own son who missed all summer injured. I can tell you if a football player missed for injury he would just cut him.

And this class looks nothing like Orr's class. They had 3 kids 6'6 that 2 played football and were tough. That class also had a good pt gd in Mansoor this class has NO pt gd and No big kids. The best players will all be 6'3 forwards, you cant win with no size. That will catch up with them.
