Who now gets the clark job? Great job for any up and coming young coach. Good school, good kids, academics are good. Best of luck to whoever gets this job!:)

The Junior Varsity Basketball Coach at Withrow would be a good fit at Clark. He is a very good guy whose interest is that of the kids. That is the reason why he chose to stay at the ROW, even with the departure of Mcbride. He has been working on the new coaching staff as well and is a Withrow graduate. My sources tell me that he is die-hard orange and black, but welcome the opportunity to SERVE as a Head Varsity coach if the opportunity arises. Don't sleep on Coach Lee. He coached his teams to a 28-12 record in 2years highlighted by a win at home versus Moeller last year. I'm pulling for him to get the call.:thumb: :thumb: :)

for how much longer?

GREAT QUESTION. Clark parents were TOLD that the new building was to be completed by the 2009-2010 school year, HOWEVER, no ground has been BROKEN over at the Hyde Park location, so that target is VERY unrealistic....:wallbang:

WOW... if in fact this job has not been filled yet, this would be a new low in procrastination.

What could possibly hold up this hire this long?

Hoop - the previous coach just resigned at most 3 weeks ago so I'm sure they are in the process of finalizing everything.

WOW... your very first post, and controversial!!!

Why was Mr.Kerr "fired" (or just not renewed?) and why "for the sake of the kids" would he be so bad? Coaching ability? Bad "people person"? What???

BTW... :welcome: to Yappi and the boys basketball forum. We hope you enjoy reading and posting as much as the rest of us!!! :)

...hoops,
a few years back a little school out in highland county (white oak) hired their head coach 3 days prior to their first practice.

I realize it can be done, tuck... trouble is, those name tags pinned on the jerseys might get in the way during practice. They'll need to re-introduce themselves to the coach in the first huddle if they wait that long.

You're right. Scott Kerr got the job as head coach for Clark.

What makes this a good hire? He had a losing record.

Going strictly by records isn't always the best barometer for finding a good coach, voice.

I personally know countless situations where a coach was hired from a losing program (and with a losing record), and became VERY successful at the next stop.

A poor talent pool year after year, administration non-support, and starry-eyed parents with ridiculous expectations are just a few issues that can sabotage a bright coach. I could mention other "situations" as well, but you probably get my drift.

Don't get me wrong... I've seen the other side of the coin as well. Some guys get chance after chance after chance, and end up screwing up the program AND the kids before departing.... then do it all over again. :wallbang:

Bottom line is... unless you know specifics about this newly hired coach, and are aware of the specifics and circumstances of where he coached previously... judging him strictly on his W/L is a bad mistake to make.

You miss hiring some VERY good coaches!!! :)

This is a good hire...
I played for Kerr and he is a good coach. He will get Clark playing better fundamental basketball rather than just streetball. He will get the most of his players as possible.
By the way, I think he is teaching at Live Oaks now.

Slap Jimmy Leon and the Clark program.
Does Memphis, Kansas, UCLA, or North Carolina play streetball?
What is better fundamental basketball?

HH you are 100% correct in your assessment, and I do not know the coach or the program. My comment was more of a why is this guy a great coach.
I thought Maderia had a decent pool of athletes for a small school. Do they normally have decent football and baseball teams? How many years was he at Maderia? Honestly, if you are a Clarke parent or fan. It is going to be tough, because the coach is getting such a late start. Are they playing in the MVC this year?

Clark is in the MVC, V.O.R. They will remain there until they decide to leave.

kerr was at mariemont not madeira.
how big of a difference will kerr be compared to leon?
at mariemont they were not happy with him because he was too hard on the kids, will clark kids be able to handle his tough love antics?

Kerr was hard on the kids? Show up at practice on time and practice hard. If you do that, you play. Do what you're supposed to do, you play. MIss practice, come late, give a poor effort, don't play. Mariemont was consistently well prepared and competetive under Kerr, but I'm sure that's due to the kids, not the coach.
