NICK HARNEY 6'7 Forward Is now officially a BENGALl!!!   :D
It's been a long time coming for this young man and I am probably his biggest fan because of the changes he has made in his life. Academically, his new attitude, especially his fun loving PERSONALITY.He will definitely fill the void left by the most improved Justin Jamison of Strongsville. Long, Athletic, can run the floor, and is a MONSTER on the offensive and defensive glass. Nick May not be the shot Blocker that Jamison is But being smart on defense and a High I.Q on the court makes up for it. With the edition of 6'6 Liam Walsh and Nick Harney... this puts Benedictine at the top of the food chain in ANY DIVISION. YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Great news for the Bengal basketball program with big expectations! Did Nick play with Cameron Wright in grade school at Shaker?

I think so. Nick went to Shaker and then transferred to Glenville where he pushed his GPA up and now he's able to play with his good friends Cameron Wright and Derek Jackson at Benedictine.

Is Benedictine in Division II?

Benny is D-II. This must be the transfer that was mentioned about a month ago. Where will Harney fit in? Will he take a starting spot from Stallion or Walsh or will they go big with Walsh ont he wing? They may be the favorite to win the state title now. It's scary how good they would have been with Jamison.

The starting lineup will probably consist of Jackson, Wright, Walsh, Stallion, and Harney.. they also have 6'7 Thomas backing up both.. I have also heard there bench is very good.. 2 freshman guards might see a lot of varsity action..
Pg Romel Dismuke is questionable due to his football commit..
Everyone besides Stallion and maybe Dismuke are Juniors, Soph, and Fr.
Good Luck Bengals! This might be the year!!

The high profile transfers this offseason have really become a joke. Glad to see Benedictine could join Glenville, Garfield, Cleveland Heights, etc. in this free agency period.
Nick Harney had his coming out party last year in the District Final at Euclid against Mentor. He looked unbelievable and only a sophomore. Mentor's tallest forward was only 6'2, but he was still very impressive. He single handedly kept Glenville in the game.
If Benny doesn't cruise through the DII state tournament, it would be a huge failure.

I'm sorry Mentor fan but Bennies can't be included in that list because of the recent success by Benedictine and the higly recruited Cameron Wright and Derek Jackson. The "highly" publicized transfers are coming to Benedictine to get an education that will lead them to a brighter future and to play at the highlest level of competition that will get them a scholarship to college.. Also, the two players have played with Cameron and Derek ever since fourth grade..

I am going to quote you on that. The best any division? They are going to be very good, but you really think the best in any division? I will put them up at the top but the best? hasbeen95, you must be very excited!!!
I just hope that their coach keeps his coat on. I must admit, he plays well to the crowd when he throws his coat. I do enjoy watching that. He is a good guy.

I am excited and that quote will be proven later in the season when Benedictin plays in a Columbus tournament which includes Columbus Northland and some other ELITE TEAMS.

No coach i just said they are in the tournament. I know they aren't playing them its just a good venue to see two of the top teams in the state playing at Ohio State I believe.

It may look like Benny really added a lot of talent through transfers, but that's not the whole story. 6'9" C Justin Jamison (starter) and 6'2" Jason Pinkston (6th man) transferred OUT this year. Those were two key losses.
Jamison was a beast on the boards and a very good shot blocker by the end of last year. He was also a decent scorer. He's a huge loss inside. Who knows if Harney can replace him?
Pinkston - while an unknown outside of Benedictine - was a key reserve and played guard and forward last year. He's an excellent athlete (he transferred to Glenville to play football), a good defender and a pretty good ball-handler. With Dismuke possibly dropping basketball to focus on football, losing Pinkston may hurt more than we now realize.
As far as Benny being a favorite regardless of division - I have two names for you - Columbus Northland and Dayton Dunbar. They were two ultra-talented teams that were eliminated early from the playoffs last year. Many people expected them to go deep in the tournament and they went NOWHERE. So the Benny fans shouldn't get too confident yet. Talent is no guarantee of a ring.

I hear what you're saying and you are right. But the advantage that Benny's main 4 guys have in common(Cameron Wright, Derek Jackson, Liam Walsh, Nicholas Harney) is their chemistry. that is the single most difficult goal to obtain when building any team in any sport. these kids have been playing with and against each other since the 3rd or 4th grade. I'm not guaranteeing a ring I'm just stating regardless who they face or what teams are out their they are the team to beat.

Jamison is definitely a big loss. Pinkston was a role player who averaged just 2.4 points last year. While they will both be missed, I'm sure Coach Stircula will take Walsh and Harney (both juniors) to replace Jamison and Pinkston (both seniors).

How about St. Ed's and Benedictine at John Carroll? I think Tony Russ needs to figure out a way to put more seats in the gym or look at other venues to host the marqueee games which will certainlt attract interest.

Trueman is actually a nice home court advantage for the Bengals and would hate to give up any edge this year.

Sorry Poland not this year ? I mean how cant you give them at least a chance they did smack Benny by about 15-20 the last to years in Canton and have alot back. Also its nice how you got to go get all new players around the state to beat Poland or ar least come on here and say how you will. Just remember one thing Poland is up 2-0 the past to years, the team with more talent doesnt always win ask last years Dunbar and Mentor teams.

You do realize that poster is a SVSM fan, not a Benny fan. For the record, they have yet to beat Benny by 15-20 points. They won by 11 in 2007 and 14 in 2008.

Well i didnt know i said he was a Benny fan? I was talking about the rest of the posters on here saying how they are the best team in the state. Also just for the record Benny might have had more talent the past two years, and Poland still handled them pretty well . Yes they are even more stacked this year but dont count any team out or thats the night they will get beat .

I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and relax about this upcoming basketball season. We have all seen teams in numerous sports that have assembled incredible and talented individuals that have not panned out on a team level. Stricula knows that and will need to develop the chemistry. As for Poland, until the Bengals can prove they can knock them out, they are the king of the hill and should be the benchmark. The bottom line is that Canton will be LOADED with taleted teams this year and looks to be a barn-burner weekend if the top dogs get to the dance, barring any snowstorms!

Couple things: Poland quit complaining about not getting any respect and second Tallmadge why are you in this forum.. The Bengals beat your best team in school history that graduated basically everyone so stay out of this conversation.. Householder and Mays are returning I know but the problem is who will get them the ball and who are they going to guard??
Poland fans, your team will be good again but not nearly as good as the last two years.. The last two years everyone has been talking about Poland because you had lots returning and etc.. now benny, st.v and others schools are in the spotlight.. Poland you guys basically lost 50 points/game, a great defender, and more.. Who will fill the void of Umbel, Defilce, and White? I have seen you guys play this summer against Jackson and you lost by 20-30 pts.. It's hard to score when you have one spot up shooter (Fatimus) and a rebounder (Downlow)..
That's where Benny and St. V come in.. They are going to be very good with top of the line players that can do a lot.. As a fan of D2 basketball noone is counting you out the roles are just being reversed.. You still are the back 2 back regional champs and kings of canton but things might change in March

First off Poland has more back than they had returning the past two years . They return 6 to 7 guys that had alot of playing time last year two of which were starters. No one is on here asking for respect, you fans from Stvs and Benny just cant wait till Poland gets knocked off . As for when Poland played Jackson they were missing 5 of they top 7 players they had freshmen playing in that game that never have even seen a JV court . Jackson had all there players, Poland actually played them to weeks later with 4 of there top 5 there and lost by 4. The way Poland plays and runs I dont think scoring will be a problem . The Baker kid had a good summer and will be another opition to go to down low , Fatimus and Donlow will get there points in large amounts i assume .Wollet and Fatimus twim brother can both score the ball as well. Looks like Canton should be a fun one this year .

Wouldn't it be a bit difficult to see a "JV" court if you are playing Varsity as a freshman?:wallbang: I know lots of kids that could play every minute of every game as a starting Varsity player as a freshman. It depends of what school you go to obviously. Some kids that can START Varsity at one school, couldn't see hardly anytime at another. A little common sense please.
