We have a thread for the woody-beachwood game, how bout the ccc-ursuline game. Switka and McCoury the probable starters. Thoughts on either team depthwise. How is ursuline's hitting and defense? CCC's?

Ursuline has probably one of the best infield in the state. They all are seniors with Revella at 3B, Wielbruda at SS (Best Hands Ive Ever Seen!!), McCartney at 2B, and Lapikas at 1B. They dont have the power like they did a year ago with Rohan, Yarab, and Finn but they can sure put the ball into play. Dont know much about CCC just know about McCoury. Ursuline still has one of the best pitching staffs with Switka and Roman.

central can put up runs with guys and have great stuff pitching and they were messing with the rotation on the infield and now they seem to have found a stable guy at first base with soph Taylore baker (2 no hitters on the mound this year also) nick keller a junior at third John "snake"lindesmith at short and mike roman at 2nd base

whose left on the team from ursuline that played in the game when they blew up on central 2 years at states

Good luck to CCC. You sure made us look foolish!

[Edit]
Let me clarify. They made us look foolish in a good way :) - Hitting 4 homers, 3 of them off our Ace. Holding us to 4 runs, something which hasn't happened much this year. They are solid top to bottom, especially offensively. We here at Triway are rooting for you guys. Hopefully McCoury can have a few more pitching days like he did against us, 10 K. Good luck!

1B Mark Lapikas, SS Joe Weilbruda, 3B Ross Revella, P/OF Shawn Roman all start and started in that game.

9-0 against really soft competition! Lets not get too excited here yet.

So what's Ursuline's competition like? Unless Ursuline plays in a league, I can't imagine that THEIR competition is any different from Central's.

Who is #2? I know no one on their team throws over 87-88. McCoury is around 86. Roman is okay at 2nd but sometimes gets into a funk and makes compounding errors. Their defense is suspect. Offensively they will be okay but better pitching may very weel give them fits.

I don't think The Justice Man is an Ursuline fan. Look at his location and previous posts.

That being said, Ursuline historically plays a very tough schedule. Is it any tougher than CCC's? I really don't know. Ursuline has played several D1's and strong D2 programs. Always do.

I was going to stay out of this but the misinformation makes it impossible. Grant throws harder than 86. I would say he is 88 with an occasional 90 thrown in. I understand he is going to throw curves this game unlike what he has done most of the season. He is going to Elon to play third base so I believe he limited his curves to save his arm.

Alex does not throw anywhere near 90. He is more of a junk baller. He has a nice slow stuff breaking stuff. You want to make him throw you fastballs as h I doubt he breaks 80 with those. He is a huge change from Grant.

Central's defense will be fine if the keep the current infield of Keller at third, Lindensmith short, Roman at second and Baker at first. This is by far the best defensive infield they have when Grant throws. I would imagine Baker is the third pitcher and if you see someone other than those three the pitching has gone south. Central can beat Ursuline with Grant on the mound and this should be a good game. We will not know untill Thursday. Central should have used this infield infield all year but its better late than never.

Thanks for the info. I really wasn't being a smart aleck or anything like that; I truly DON'T know what kind of a schedule Ursuline plays. And no one seems to know if they play in a league and if so, how strong their league is. I DO know that Central has played St. Ignatius, Strongsville, Hudson, Stow, Walsh, Hoban, Lake, etc. so they DO play a good mix of teams.

People try to discredit the D3's by saying that they often don't see the other team's ace pitcher. Well, we don't always pitch OUR ace, either. So while I DO think there SOME validity in that comment, I also think you can still be a great team even though you are a D3, and playing the D1's and D2's can only help make you stronger for tournaments. And Coach Miller doesn't shy away from playing ANYONE.

CCC has heard this talk all year about their "soft schedule" and how "they didn't face anybody's ace", but they're still in the tournament.

This is the weekend that CCC needs to step up. I want them to but this is games against quality teams. The district and the sectional were not.

Common Slip...they played in the easiest district possible and had the smallest bandbox of a field to hit home runs out of. I would hope a bunch of athletes whose parents pay for them to attend a school would beat a bunch of kids whose parents would love to have the extra 5k for farm feed.

I agree that it's a relatively easy district and that CCC will be the favorite to win the district for as long as they're in it. Nevertheless, any team that's still playing tournament ball at this time of year must be doing something right. CCC has played about 30 games now and only lost 3 of them. They have talented players, so it's not like they're doing all of this with smoke & mirrors.

Ursuline also has a ton of talent and should be the favorite in this game, but CCC has the horses to win not only this game but also the state title.

I thought I would let you know that Walsh ate up all the Central pitchers but Grant who did not pitch. I believe Alex gave up 4 in an inning and Taylore 7.This is not knock on any of the boys just showing them playing top flight competition. Walsh pitched the 4-6 kids in the rotation. I still think behind Grant Central can beat any D3 team in the state but the rest of the pitching and the fielding is why I worry for their getting out of the region. Central is not a band box field by the way. I doubt Ursuline is as good as Walsh either. I am first in baseball a Jackson fan but I will be rooting for Central as I do because Jackson and Central never play a real game. Good luck to both Stark County teams this week!

Thanks for the clarification on them actually playing somebody and having the depth to compete with those teams. Just for ur clarification...I never said Central had a band box field.

Central had five errors in that game as well. Their fielding is a little questionable. Should be a great double header tomorrow!
