View Full Version : St. X vs Moeller REMATCH
Thoughts on this rematch? St. X and Moeller played in the same round last season and the underdog St. X came out victorious. Can St. X repeat or will Moe squash these dreams?

Moeller has to be the HEAVY favorite in this game.
Moeller has to be the HEAVY favorite in this game.
I don't agree. St. X has been playing good ball at the end of the year, their team seems to be healthy again and there is always that "beating a team 3 times" factor. They are the best hitting team in the GCL south and I believe this should be a very good game

Moeller 3-0
Greg Williams gets the start for Moeller. I know the game is at UC. Anybody know what time?

Agreed, but this is what we said last year and look what happened.

"beating a team 3 times" factor.
An old wives tale.
If you believe in it, then you are complicit in making a myth a reality.
Each game is a statistically INDEPENDENT event.
They are the best hitting team in the GCL south
Very true but pitching trumps hitting. Unless the ace has an off day.
Moeller has pitching depth and can go to another top hurler if #1 gets in trouble.
Does the coach have the luxury (and confidence) to allow #1 to pitch out of trouble in a one-and-out?
I believe this should be a very good game
I hope that it is a good game but reality says NO.
How many Moeller grads/St. X dads will spurn the Moeller yellow for the St. X Jesuit blue (like at volleyball at Moeller's gym on Saturday) at UC on Thursday?
I was hoping for a St. Xavier/LaSalle Regional final.

St X has seen Greg Williams twice already this season. The second time they faced him the game was tied 4-4 when the game was suspended in the 4th. St. X started a pitcher who was making his first varsity appearance after being called up from JV. If St. X could go half of a game with Moeller with a JV pitcher, I am nervous about the outcome when they start their lefty who has been making hitters look foolish (Ollier I believe) Should be a good game but I honestly don't have a good feeling about it as a Moeller fan.

I got a feeling Moeller will turn the tables this year. Not as much pressure or expectations this time around, makes it a lot easier to play like they can.

X will be very hard to beat with Ollier pitching. I think it may take a Williams/Suter combo to win.

Ollier has beaten Mason, Elder twice, Turpin, Wyoming and Oak Hills. So he beat some good teams but nothing spectacular. I think Moeller will have a good game plan to beat a decent pitcher at best. Moeller will be fine with Williams on the mound and with Suter and Curtin in the bullpen if needed.

The JV pitcher you are talking about is sophomore Tommy White. With the excepyion of a bomb to Suter, he did not pitch poorly in that game. He is a big kid, and a PITCHER, not just a thrower. Look for him to play a big role in future X-Moe matchups.
Back to this year.....can Williams again shut down X's potent offense? If not, can Moeller outslugg the Bombers?

Anyone know when the winner of this games next game will be? I think that'll def play a pivitol role in who both teams throw.

It won't play a role. You gotta win this game first.

100% agree, Brick.
No coach is dumb enough to look ahead of a game like this.
You can't play the next game, without winning this one.

Last year's game had to have around 2,000. The stadium was basically full except for the last 2 sections down each line.
Depending on the weather (looks good right now) could be right around last year's game.
Lakota East/Butler winner....

Especially considering it's Moeller/St. Xavier.
I think Moeller wins 3-1, but X will threaten at the lead several times.

St. X SUCKS!

Actually because my kid chose to take the St. X offer rather than follow the neighborhood kids to Moeller.
MOELLER SUXXS

GO BOMBERS !!!

If X sucks then Moeller must really be pathetic since they just lost to X in Volleyball on Saturday in a match held at Moeller. I believe that last year Moeller's baseabll team was going to beat X and lost in the playoffs. New year same result.
Final score X - 5 Moeller - 4

Congrats to Moeller. They outplayed, outcoached and were the better team than X this year. Good luck and win the title for the GCL South.

The Bombers had their chances; Moeller made the most of theirs.
Both pitchers were slightly off.
The very close calls by the 1st base ump on several plays that could have conceivably gone St. X's way were key. Not saying that they were bad calls but they were so close that had they been called otherwise would not have been out of line.
Also the bad call by the St. X 3rd base coach to send the runner home on a double with no outs was an unforced error to use a tennis term. It had subsequent repercussions and consequences that could have turned the game. Maybe the 6-run deficit at the time made him more aggressive than normal but the opposite argument is definitely sound.
The K with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs in the 6th at 6-3 was also key.
Great season Bombers! Thanks Class of '08! Good luck in college! And beyond...
Good luck the rest of the way Crusaders!
You still have an oral fixation though!

The throw out at home was a key play. The score was actually 6-2 at the time. Holding the runners at 2nd and 3rd with the two hits that came after would have made the score at least 6-4 maybe better. That was a HUGE play. Not sure what the coach was thinking at that point the play wasn't even close. Also Bombers had an error, didn't execute a cut-off of a ball thrown home and didn't cover 1st base on a bunt in the 6 run inning for Moeller. Little things added up against the Bombers in that game. I think if the Bomber coaches would concentrate during the season on the little fundamental things that win close games they would stand a better chance of beating teams like Moeller.

leave our coaches out of this. yes, the call to send the runner home was an AWFUL blunder by him, but other than that it was all the players. The coaches do cover all the little things in practice, we did not execute. Also, who the ---- was that umpire? that piece of crap needs to learn how to call a curve ball as well as the inside strike, Ollier lives on the inside corner and was not recieving that call all day, subsequently he gives moeller a straight fastball because of it and they rip it. It was the same way for both teams, i believe it hurt X more though b/c of the way their starting pitcher pitches... Good game Moe, good luck in the playoffs, bring that damn trophy back to the GCL
