The head coach at Western Hills High School resigned in the middle of the season, whats going on over there? They are a pretty solid team

The coach resigned I believe due to his work schedule. He is in the scouting department for the Reds and travels alot during the week. He thought it was too much to manage both and therefore stepped down. Western Hills is playing good baseball this year and is atop the conference standings.

I only saw them play agains East this year, but LE put up 20 on them. I didn't really see anything impressive from West Hi in that one...

I saw West High play East too. They definetly didnt show up that game. Two freshmen pitchers who pitched for West High showed they werent ready for varsity. West High has bounced back nicely after that disaster though.

WOW!!! I highly doubt that was the situation. Job with the Reds was taking up too much time and he didnt want to punish the kids by not giving them the 100% coaching they deserve. As for the inelgible players that is definetly not true.

I was told the coach already missed 3 or 4 games because he was on the road scouting. The man has an important job. He tried to make it through the year but he has a certain amount of players he has to see before the june draft.

Ok. So here is the truth behind the coach leaving. As I was a player for Western Hills this season. The Friday that he resigned I was departed from the team. I was the starting catcher. Thankfully I am only a junior so I can play next season but here is the story. At the begining of the season I was academically inelgible. I brought the grades up within the time frame needed to play. However that Friday the received a phone call saying that they had to forfeit every game I played in. The grades weren't changed in the computer but had signed documents from individual teachers saying my grades were changed. Once coach Cook found that out he felt as if he wasn't doing the job right and resigned. So even tho the grades were changed I am still unable to play and I was having an amazing season. In 6 games I had 2 triples and 2 doubles. I was also hitting over .400. P.J Mays the athletic director is still trying to find a way to were I can come back and play.

I don't think that is the truth as to why an upstanding and respected coach would resign. I'm sure he wishes that your grades were better and I hope YOU have learned a lesson about getting your grades in order. Let's let this die and move on to the positives of the season. West High is doing just as well under the new coach Jimmy Holland and from what I understand, he is going to continue to do well. I'm sure the support of the mustangs is going to continue under coach Holland just as much as they were behind coach Cook. As far as I know, the Mustangs have gone on to win more games without you as the starting catcher anyway. Glad to hear you were having a good season but, not one player does a team make and i think that is evident in this fact. Glad to hear you trying to accept some responsibility but, again, it probably should not have come to this if you would have done YOUR work in the classroom.

regardless of what happened, the bottom line is, he gave up on the kids.

Yes, he really did give up on a great bunch of kids. Western Hills has a shortstop by the name of James Pierson and a second basemen by the name of Jordwan Walker that are astonishing. Jordan has 3 homeruns and is hitting over .500. James has 1 homerun and is hitting over .600

So who has taken over? Where is this school located?

James Holland. He was the assistant coach and the school is located on the western side of Cincinnati. Off of Glenway ave. We probably have the best baseball field in the city. Well thats until Elder gets their field finished.

No I failed 1 class. But all my other grades were fine. They got changed late in the computer an thats when state looked at grades when they weren't changed.

Besides scouting Phil also does security work for the Reds. Perhaps working 2 jobs besides his coaching job just got to be too much. It is hard enough to be a varsity coach when you don't work in the building. Maybe the incident with the catcher was just the straw that made Cookie feel he didn't have the time to do the kid's justice. His scouting responsibilities may have changed with Jockerty taking over as general manager. Maybe some of you should just give the guy a break. I wonder how many of you could stand it if someone criticized every decision you make without talking to you and knowing exactly what your thoughts were.

Western Hills is probably about 2 seasons from being very competitive again, not only in the league but for a sectional title.

Western Hills went undefeated in league this year with no competition at all. They demolished every team. They were just unable to finish at game when playing out of league teams. They were down 15 to 13 against Loveland going into the top of 7 and lost it.
