It seems to me like everyone is all caught up in juniors and seniors, anyone seeing any underclass talent shining through? Underclassmen on legit V squads, making starts, coming in later innings ect?

For Boardman they have some very good Freshman talent. I don't think it's fair to say "making impact on legit V squads" because it's hard for Freshmen to make impacts on good Varsity teams. They rarely have freshman step up onto a varsity field, as I think Sikora was the only one in the past 6 years to do so. Fithian is a freshman with a great pop time, solid bat, and is on the JV. This whole class of freshman at Boardman is good, and should be watched for in the next few years.

Anthony Westren from Woodridge is off to a great career start. He's going up for career win number 7 today against mogadore. He's currently 1-0 on the year, beating Field, and is 6-0 for his career with a 3-something e.r.a.
Derek Morgan is a fantastic sophomore second basemen in his second year on varsity for woodridge. Great hands and good bat. Never makes errors.
Tyler Skulina from Walsh Jesuit, sophomore, impressed the heck out of me when he threw against woodridge. That kid will be a draft pick. Threw, consistently, and yes this is accurate, in 40 degree weather, 91-92 miles an hour. as a sophomore...that's insane...

TJ Sutton from Glen Oak is a solid hitter. He started at centerfield as a freshman, and is now a sophomore. He even commanded respect from Justin Gill as a freshman at the Canton South vs. Glen Oak game. Gill walked sutton at least once, and it looked as if he was trying not to let anything get in Sutton's strikezone. Also, Canton South has a freshman pitcher on varsity, TJ Sheridan. Sheridan is a reliever/closer, and throws high 70's. He is also a developing hitter, and has a promising future at south. Not to mention, the kid is a mammoth of a freshman.

The fire will still be burning in Tallmadge when 2008 & 2009 studs are gone with Brian Kilway and Garrett Emling

I would have to agree with Grip and Rip.. Mike's brother is a good friend of mine. Mike is a transfer to stow.. He played varisty last year at Akron Garfield... They were 7-18 last year and he was 5-1 with a save.. on Varisty.. he is stuck in a numbers game at Stow and also the fact that the coaches really dont no his ability... So far on the year he thrown 9 no hit innings with 13 K's... Not bad!

Hey Southtown faithful, have a question and a comment............an earlier post touted Sheridan of Canton South as an up and comer. Has he done anything yet this year. Now my comment. Was able to take in the jv game at Canton South the other nite against Marlington. Who is the #4 hitter for South? Heard at the game that he is a younger brother to Ronnie May that played for South and lettered for them four years. Any truth to it? Saw him hit a single, double to tie the game, and a homer in the seventh which dinged the left field foul pole almost at the top of it. He also catches and did a fine job. Kid seems to have an eye and a mentality for the game. Anybody know anything about him?

well said. Not only can he hit but he is also a ladies man at school. Watch out. If he doesn't play college baseball, he could be a professional model.

Blake Bellman, Northwestern, Sophomore
He led the entire Daily Record area (Wayne, Holmes, Ashland, surrounding counties) in hitting last year as a Freshman and is at the top again this year.

Sheridan has only pitched two innings for South this year, one against louisville, which was a 1 2 3 inning, and one last night against marlington, which was started with runners on first and third and he got out of the jam unscathed. As long as the kid gets more chances to show his stuff, he will catch some attention. Also, the JV player you saw was freshman, Jared May. You're right about him being the younger brother of Ronnie May, and he might see some time on varsity when the playoffs come. During workouts, he didn't show how good he was, but obviously, he is getting better. From what I hear, the shot he hit got out in a hurry.

Just heard that the freshman May is getting called up to catch the second game of a varsity double header today. Any truth to that. Sounds like the coaching staff at South is prepping for the years to come. Also heard that Sheridan might be pitching the same game. Did May and Sheridan play summer ball together last year?

You must be too young to remember that Boardmans starting SS K Mac started on the varsity as a true frosh. a couple of years ago. I like Fithian and correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't he "split time" at catcher?
I second the Emling, Brian Kilway combo.
