i think a team can have great pitching/defense with good hitting would accomplish more than a team with the vice versa.

You can always count on great pitching more than great hitting.

Yes but you can't win if you can't hit. You can make the argument for either option, just one without the other won't cut it.

Yes :)

Pitching. It puts you in control. Run support has you taking what the other team's pitcher(s) give you.

Wise choice PITman...DR. PITCH says with good pitching, a team is capable of winning 1-0.

Run Support. Nothing boosts a pitchers moral and comfort level like run support.
That being said, (uh-oh, here comes a cliche!!) Pitching wins championships.
Pitching, pitching & more pitching.
Good pitching almost certainly will always beat good hitting. HS baseball is kind of easy to manufacture runs now and then.

I agree with the run support. It's so much easier for the pitcher to pitch when he doesn't always have to pitch from behind. Also, if you have a good hitting team, your pitcher can be less-than-perfect and you'll still have a good chance of winning the game.

yea but its also difficult for hitters to try and come from behind if your pitcher isnt getting it done.. i think it can go either way on this one..

I know what you're saying and I agree. In high school ball, though, sometimes pitchers are inconsistent or some get injured or else there just aren't enough good pitchers on the team to begin with. This is where the hitting becomes REAL important.

i think it can go either way because sometimes a pitcher can pitch great and not get support from the defense. in that situation i would say run support because even though a pitcher may throw well, his fate might not always be in his hands.

well ask the red sox. for hears they tried to out score people, always wanted more hitters. but...
it wasnt until they acquired schilling and beckett or pedro that they started winning championships.
its better to have pitching. if a team has great pitching then the opponent is always a little intimidated

If you're talking pro ball with their mega budgets, sure. But if you're talking high school ball where you seldom get several ace pitchers, I'd say that run support is VERY important for winning games. Also, good defense (like the other poster said).

I have got to see many games closer than most people do. I am the guy that calls that balls and strikes.
A stud pitcher wins almost every time. Sure you may have a hitter that gets his single or double, but not many lineups have the ability to string it together against a prospect that is now at the high school level. A few weeks ago, I called a game and the kid that was pitching is going to go to MLB right out of high school. It was no contest. Lights out. He throws over 90 and has about 3 pitches in his arsenal that just about wore the tendons out of my right elbow having to bend it calling the strikes and strikeouts.

Exactly! And with so many kids taking hitting lessons these days, they are getting pretty good at stringing hits together, clutch hitting, etc.

:hello: well if you give up runs you still have a chance of scoring runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so hitting is important

Pitching is more important. The run support should take care of itself.

Pitching is great no doubt, but what if Team A can't hit worth crap but their pitcher has a perfect game going.
That makes for a real long night of Baseball if you can't get 1 single run in and your pitcher has been doing everything to keep the game at 0-0.
On the other hand Team B could be hitting the cover off the ball, but their pitcher gives up hit after hit & run after run.
So the simple answer to which is better...NEITHER...You need both run support & pitching to win.

No pitcher is perfect - if you have a really good hitting team, they can wait for that pitcher to make a mistake, get some hits and score some runs. Also, if you have a lot of hard hits, chances are the defense will make mistakes, again, scoring runs.
