How many guys on your school team are baseball guys? I'm not talking about players on the baseball team who treat 2-3 sports equally, I'm talking about guys that are interested in baseball and work at it in november december and january. There are some very good athletes who just go out and excell at any sport during its season, not asking about those guys. I'm asking about players who have a passion for baseball in the dead of winter and want to work at it. I would guess the number jumps dramatically at larger schools because of the competition of making the team.

Our Freshman class has about 8 of them, which is encouraging. Baseball is the #1 sport for all of them, and they all love the game. Their parents are big supporters with their offseason endeavors, and they have been successful. Having a large group of kids that love baseball that much and work well together is encouraging coming into the varsity/high school ranks. As long as they keep that passion and continue to work hard, it could be a very good future. It's also encouraging knowing the class ahead of them went undefeated the entire last summer's baseball season. However, it only gets tougher from here on for the Freshmen. Time to prove yourself all over again.

8 from one class is pretty amazing, what division does the school play? I would guess a lot of schools wouldn't have 8, much less one grade.

I know plenty of players that work year round on Baseball & play other sports as well.

It takes alot of commitment to play one sport and still Practice year round for Baseball. The work ethic of kids today is pretty amazing if you ask me.

As for the original question, Our team has about 4 or 5 guys that play Baseball only. At the D1 level, Kids tend to wanna play multiple sports. It's tough to find kids now a days who only play & focus on one sport.

Most of the players I know two of which will be drafted dropped their goals of playing multiple sports in High School, sports that they would not play is College, during their sophomore year. Most players are not capable of playing multiple sports in High School and spending enough quality time on the sport for which they will be getting an education to play. This can be evidenced by kids playing Fall Baseball and being seen by D1 schools then to be given an offer. You must put yourself out there to be seen every chance you get and show the college coach that your only focus is baseball. College coaches do not care if you play basketball or football they worry that you are 100% committed to baseball. It may even hurt some prospects when they continue to play other sports. I think it is a BIG mistake to play other sports when you have the ability to be drafted or play at the Division 1 Top Level Georgia Tech, LSU, Stanford etc. or even Ohio State, Kent, OU etc. It is MY opinion that if you want to play baseball in college you must show the scouts that this is the only sport for you. Very few Bo Jacksons out there.
Like I said previously High School letters are nice for nostalgia, but the only ones that matter to a baseball collegiate scout or coach is the BASEBALL ones.

I agree, in this day and age if you want to play at the next level in a particular sport you had better play THAT sport. It is not like it used to be back when I played. Almost everyone was a multi sport athlete but those days are over. Focus on your sport and the weight room, that is what you have to do.
