Hello All,
My son is interested in playing AAU ball this year. With the seasons coming to a close, I was looking for some advice as to teams around the Cincinnati area and contact info. I hope the great folks of this forum can help me out.

Thanks

are the royals not having 17u teams this year? The tryout information talks about the 15u and 16u teams but not the older teams

You also will/should want to contact the OHSAA. They are currently getting comments on changing the guidlines on what should be done about athletes competing in the AAU and other type "leagues".

Contact Alex Meachem at Shining Star Sports. Last year, SSS U17 teams place 1st and 2nd in Ohio and 1st in Kentucky for the state tournament. SSS-Callahan team finished 7th at Nationals last year. The top players in Cinci played for SSS last year and they are building a strong program. Tryouts are coming up in February. Check out the website.

As far as AAU type teams in NE Ohio. There is a club called SMAC out of Cleveland and Penn-Ohio blue Storm out of Sharon PA. Both have websites you could look at. My son played in the AAU circuit now three years and we are looking for an alternative club team that doesn't charge the 500+ dollars to play in a few tourneys.

There are a lot of nice teams around, you need to list what age group your looking for and someone will use the private messages to let you know. There are different levels of AAU Basketball and some have private tryouts. You need to find one that will play in more than 8 tournaments to work on your game. Not all local by the way.

I am currently in 9th grade and am looking to improve my game while playing against some of the top competition around.

Good point atruegriff. Most clubs have multiple teams per age group. When you try out and make an AAU team, make sure you inquire how many tournaments you will be playing in, where they are located and are they sanctioned tournaments where college coaches are allowed to watch. Travel expenses can add up quickly so you want to make sure your team is going to top rated tournaments that will allow you to play against top players and get you exposure to the college coaches. You need to start getting on the coaches radar screens no later than your sophomore summer. Make sure the AAU team you play for has a history of their players getting college scholarships and that the club has an active website that will profile you as a player. I know the Shining Start Sports club in Cinci fulfills these criteria.

The varsity a.c. teams are $200 for 9 tournaments in NE Ohio and have had a lot of success for 20 yrs now - my children & my grandchildren all played there and 7/8 went on to play in college.

For AAU in the NE Ohio area, there is a new program called the Ohio Xtreme. They have had a very successful girls program for 2 years and it is continuing to grow. This is the firt year for the Boys program, but rumor has it that they locked up some decent players from around the area. The website has more info. I know they are looking for a few 8th graders and 10th graders. They also have a couple more levels looking for players. I don't know all the details.
