The new Mid-Ohio Blaze 9u will be based out of the Marc Wilkens Baseball Academy in Mansfield Ohio. Marc is a retired Major League pitcher with the Pittsburg Pirates and will be the head coach. Use of his BRAND NEW facility is just one of the benefits of this team. Tryouts will be February 1st and 5th from 6:30-8:30 at the academy. Hopefuls must attend both dates if possible and bring a glove, bat, hat, and cleats. Players cannot turn 10 before May 1st. To learn more call the academy at 419-683-4100

Does Mr. Wilkens reside in the immediate area? A son playing?

Yes this Blaze team will be out of Mansfield, specifically Ontario. Yes he has a son playing up on this team, and as usual with most travel coaches he was not happy with the level of play in the area so he entered into COYBL and wants to make the kids on his team better by playing better competition. The Blaze has a tradition of excellence. All Blaze teams last year finished 5th or better in the State Championships and 3 teams went on to a USSSA World Series, including Kirk Manns 10u team who made it for the second year in a row. Marc Wilken's team will be a recruited team so if a family is willing to make the committment there is no geographical boundry for the team. It is actually a rare opportunity for a player to be coached by a Major League baseball player. I have gotten to know Marc and he is a great teacher. My son takes pitching lessons from him and really loves working with Marc. Include the state of the art facility, a brand new baseball park in Ontario and the coaching that a player would get and you can see this is a good opportunity for any young player.
