Springboro will have 4 defianate division 1 players 3 who have already commited
Chuck Ghysles(Dayton)
Cory Hough (Cincinnati)
Adam Baily(Murry State)
Mike Kindel(undecided)

How far do you think this very talented team can go in the very competitive Region 4?

Voice-of-Reason

Springboro will be the class of Dayton and should contend to get out of Region 4. They are very good!

TheKid08

loaded pitching staff... imo they have a very good chance at state

Wolfman1

Mike Kindel is listed by the Buckeye Scout as the 6th best player in the state. He is a centerfielder.

That is very strong, is Mark Pelfrey still the head coach? With that group will have a good chance to advance to regionals.

Wolfman1

Yes, Coach Pelfrey is at Springboro.

Springboro is going to be tough. Hopefully some of the other GWOC teams can be competitive with them.

Wolfman1

There may be others, but Sidney is loaded and Miamisburg has Justin Good. Good threw twice against Boro last season, 3-0 loss and 4-1 win (2 hitter). Burg is always a challenge for Springboro.

Boro at Lebanon. Strange things always happen at Lebanon. Might be a head thing for the Springboro players. Lebanon defends their field very well.

You are right Wolfman, Sidney is loaded. Only losing 1 starter from last year's Sectional Champ and District Runner-Up team. They set the Sidney record for most wins in a season(24-5). Even without Dayton Area POY Catcher Jude DeLoye, Sidney will probably be stronger than last season.

Brad Yinger, Joe Engle and Nathan Strome are all Aces on the mound. Very solid pitching staff this season for the Yellow Jackets.

Sidney and Springboro are both favored to win their Divisions of the GWOC.

As long as Coach Pelfrey leaves his pitchers alone, Springboro will make it to the regionals.

Besides the Big 4, I know Springboro has the Lample kid who is probably a Division III player. Who is the Boro's catcher? Isn't that their big weakness?

I'd love to see Sidney and Boro play. I don't think they have each other scheduled though.

Although Sidney does have an Open date for Wednesday, April 9th.

They are however scheduled to play in 2009 on May 1st.

James sheltrown is boros catcher and he was a gwoc HONORABLE MENTION LAST YEAR

I believe that Sidney and Springboro play a double dip on April 5th at SBHS. Could be interesting.

I think my grandpa was honorable mention GWOC...I think the GWOC is like FIRST grade. If you participate, you are honored with a sticker!

All League awards a mostly political, usually they get the Player of the Year right and then from the rest of it...its voted on who likes whom and who wants who on the team.

with the above mentioned springboro also has some great position players such as Stefan Lamley, Robert Riley, Max Monning, and others

Seen Kindel play a couple of times. This kid is a 5 tool player. He is gonna be real good at next level. His dad was a good ballplayer for Barberton in late 70's.

Awesome...

Sidney's Brad Yinger is being looked at by alot of MAC schools, and Joe Engle P/3B is leaning toward Wright State.

Thats as much as I know right now.

as the 33 best player in Ohio according to the Buckeye Scout.

Yeah, it says Greg Engle but it's really Joe Engle.

I watched Sidney American Legion Post 217 last summer. Joe hit a grand slam at over the scoreboard at OU's field in Athens during the State Tourney.

Joe Engle Summer Stats:

.375 AVG, 160 AB's, 60 Hit's, 12 Double's, 12 HR's, 32 Run's, 2nd on the team with 54 RBI's, .638 SLG%, only 8 Strikeouts.

What will Boro's starting line up look like on opening day?

Rainistheemeny

Wolfman,

It will probably look like the one on the lineup card Coach Pelfrey walks out to the umpires before the first inning. Just my guess...

Hough – P
Kindel – CF
Lamley - IF
Bailey – 1B
Sheltrown – C
Ghysels - IF

Need one more infielder and two outfielders. Any thoughts?

(not necessarily in that order)

Here are some to add

Bryce Drew- IF Jr
Nate Reynolds- OF Jr
Robert Riley- IF Sr
Scott White- OF Soph

Boro20
01-26-08, 01:24 AM
Look for Drew and White to be in the opening day lineup. Other OF spot is wide open.

fivebuckeyes
01-26-08, 01:40 PM
the other OF spot is more than likely going to Reynolds(Jr)

boroguy
01-28-08, 08:36 AM
Actually the spot is wide open but the best candidate is probably going to be kyle king a freshman

fivebuckeyes
01-28-08, 03:54 PM
Kyle king is a freshman other players have seniority over him and he plays infield he will most likely play JV

Boro20
01-28-08, 08:32 PM
Hopefully the upper classmen are smart enough to understand that seniority doesn't mean a lot when it comes to deciding on which player is best for a position. They better be working their butts off to improve or a younger guy could sneak in and take the spot.

fivebuckeyes
01-28-08, 10:56 PM
i can agree with that

How far did Boro go last season in the Tournament?

Yellow_Jacket06
01-31-08, 02:51 PM
Nevermind, I see Burg beat them in the Sectional Championship.

Wolfman1
02-01-08, 01:29 PM
Good tossed a 2 hit, 4 -1 win the sectionals. Good also pitched a nice game in a 3-0 loss to Boro earlier in the year.

Boro defeated Burg in both of the league games last season but couldn't get past the Vikings a third time.

Boro vs Burg is a nice rivalry. So there's something extra special with the games.

It's the beauty and the beast of the tournament. One and done. If you run into an outstanding pitcher or great pitching performance season over.

I agree, and thats what happened when Sidney ran into Mike Nastold & Elder in the District Title game.

We handled Beavercreek 10-0 in the Sectional Championship though.

Sidney was ranked 5th in the State when Elder beat them 5-1.

I wonder what the Preseason State Poll will look like.

does anyone know where the lamely kid is going to college?

Boro20
02-02-08, 10:43 PM
There are a lot of possibilities for the last OF spot. Five or Six different kids have a legit chance. Hopefully the competition makes the individuals and the team stronger. This year's team will be very talented and should be fun to watch.

ButlerAviator83

I've seen Lamely-is he really a college player? I think he is a good player, but I'm not sure about Div 1.

borofan09
02-07-08, 11:21 PM
yea lamley has very good talent he has a good arm and a good bat but he is a possible d 1 player and the jr class also has some talent comming up

Rainistheemeny
02-08-08, 01:48 AM
The junior class is ok...enough to fill in and be solid...but a great senior class.

Lamley is a nice high school player, but he is not a d1 guy. he would be a very solid d3 player and could have a nice career playing at that level. Unless he has really improved over the past year, but from watching the boro several times...i didn't see it.

TboltAlum78
02-08-08, 10:03 AM
Don't know if the decision is final, but I heard Lamley was playing baseball for D-3 Adrian College.

borofan09

I havent heard anything about lamley but the boro team will be a lot of fun 2 watch this season no doubt about that

baseballoh
02-11-08, 04:31 PM
wat sophmores are probable varsity players

borofan09
02-12-08, 12:25 PM
Scott White
Patrick Hensley
Taylor Terrell
all possible sophomore varsity players

baseballoh
02-12-08, 02:45 PM
ive heard white is a given for more pitching but what about the other two. I dont know much about hensley.

borofan09
02-12-08, 09:57 PM
hensley could use a little more size but he is a good average hitter and can play 2nd baseball good but can use more seasoning as well as terell who strikes out often so

boroguy
02-13-08, 09:43 AM
hensley could possibly be a varsity player this year, but terell is not i don't think he has the bat for varsity pitchers, has not seen the pitching enough to be a positive influence in the lineup

BaseballGuy2
02-13-08, 05:50 PM
For what its worth ive watched both Kyle King and Patrick Hensley play this summer and Hensley is ready, King may not be ready but he did play the outfield a good amount this summer.

baseballoh
02-14-08, 08:45 PM
terel and hensley played together over the summer and ive heard that terel is much more fine tuned than hensley all around

baseballoh
02-14-08, 08:50 PM
the white kid is legit hes got a good arm and bat... but i have to disagree with you about terel ive seen him play many times last summer facing some good pitching and the kid can flat out swing it

borofan09
02-15-08, 04:01 PM
All Springboro ball players being considered for varsity have their strengths
Terell can hit for Power
Hensley can hit for average
another kid you can watch for is Austin Kaiser he can field an amazing glove at first base as well as at third base and can hit for an average
Boro will be a force this year

Nate Reynolds, Robert Riley and Max Monnig could earn the spot as well. Taylor Franz could also make a push for the spot with a strong tryout.

That is true the Springboro team also mixed with talent has great work ethic and will to make it far in the tourny

Yellow_Jacket06
02-15-08, 07:42 PM
I'm really looking forward to the Sidney/Springboro DH

Could very well be the two best teams in the GWOC as a Whole.

If I had to guess right now I'd say they will Split. I just don't see either team beating the other twice in a row. Both teams will be solid.

baseballoh
02-15-08, 08:03 PM
i know sheltrown is boros main catcher and ive heard that bailey will not b catching this year... who will help out sheltrown behind the plate?

borofan09
02-16-08, 10:51 PM
Baily will catch a little as well as a junior named Austin Kaiser and Sophomore Taylor Terell who both are good ball players seen both play myself terell has the speed back there but Kaiser has the Arm that most people have so its a toss up

Boro20
02-17-08, 11:43 AM
Austin is not a catcher. He's a corner infielder. Sheltrown will do most of the catching with Bailey giving him a rest here and there. If Terell makes the varsity squad, he'll probably get a few innings behind the dish as well.

borofan09
02-17-08, 11:58 AM
Well I saw him play over the summer and he did play catcher but you are correct he is a better 1st baseman and 3rd baseman. He has the arm that most people don't have and has a great glove at 1st. Terrell is a better catcher than him though. Springboro is just stacked all around with good ball players all over campus

Boro20
02-17-08, 12:19 PM
Austin is a great kid. It's nice to see how well he has developed as a ball player and as a person.

borofan09
02-17-08, 04:03 PM
Yea i would agree from watching 2 of his summer games he seems like a kid who likes to have fun but at the same time focus on the game. The Boro trend of Cory and Mike must have rubbed off on him
