a few young local coaches published a book recently.

clint adkins -- assistant coach at lakota east
steve bain -- assistant at elder
eddie dreyer -- former head coach at hughes
rob starkey -- head coach of villa madonna in nky

it is a book of drills, plays and strategies for coaches and is a pretty good reference for young and old coaches. the forward is also written by sean miller.

check it out, buy a copy and help these young coaches pay off college loans and feed their children

if the book doesn't sell maybe they can go down to a bengals game with a tin can and collect some money?

i actually bought this book off of target.com and it really is a good book.
there are a lot of traditional drills, traditional drills with different twists and some new drills i haven't seen.
there are also good thoughts on defense, offense, and gameday preperation.

if you're into books like this i'd recommend it. great book by great young coaches.

i saw this book on the shelves of a barnes and nobles the other day.
it was about 5 or 6 books away from dean smith's book -- the carolina way

so..... its got to be a great book. dean smith's book is almost next to it.

give it a year or two and they'll move it down the shelf near the wooden books.

What type of moves do they teach v.s a zone from the short corner?

i haven't read the book but i can guess how it will go.....

clint adkins -- assistant at lakota east --- will have one really really good chapter and a few other somewhat decent chapters but always refer back to that really good one chapter and fall short

steve bain -- assistant at elder --all pages are printed in purple and white hardly legible but does well because it competes with other good chapters -- however all his chapters get together and talk about how much better they are than other chapters -- also allegations that those good chapters recruited all the good words to their chapters

eddie dreyer --head coach at hughes -- while all of his chapters are very very talented and are quick reads they never work together and fall short

rob starkey -- head coach at villa madonna -- that schools in kentucky! do those people even know how to read?

Another writer with Ohio roots, Ralph Pim, has written a number of basketball books. Here are nine of them authored/co-authored the former Barberton assistant coach. Dr. Ralph Pim, after his days with the Magics, coached at the college level and is currently the Director of Competitive Sports at the U.S. Military Academy (West Point):

not an author just a friend

i'll get out and write more posts though to make my self look more reputable.

I think I'll branch out and become an expert GWOC basketball.

I found a copy at barnes and nobles last weekend.

It is a good book. Well done.

Good luck to these young coaches on the upcoming season.

Hopefully a run upstate this year for lakota east or elder will help booksales and these coaches can feed their children.

any news on how the preseason is going for these young coaches.

i'm sure its a big adjusment for assistant coaches being published authors.

i mean there are probably throngs of fans waiting outside of their respective gyms waiting for one of these young up and comers to sign a copy of their book.

i'm sure they'll learn to deal with this newfound fame but i'm sure there's an adjustment period.

This is a thread that REFUSES to "die".

Born clear back on 10/10, it continues to chug along with LESS than 20 replies... about one every three days. Just enough to keep it near the top of the forum and front-and-center as a potential stocking-stuffer for the Christmas.

VERY creative marketing. :)

HH:

I took my copy of the book home and tested it out. The book + stocking = perfect fit.

It fit in a normal sized stocking perfectly! With room for more as well.

It would be a great Christmas present for any coach.

and this is not a marketing ploy!

i just thought it was interesting that four local coaches put a book out.

and i want them to have enough money to put some food on the table for their kids and maybe a basketball book or two in their kids' stockings this christmas

I went to barnes and noble's website and saw that the Sales Rank of this book is : 207428

when you think of all the millions of books that there are in print 207428 is pretty good right?

you're the man.

could also be a great family activity on turkey day -- instead of watching football read it out lound to the children of the family -- or instead of the annual football game, run some drills in the backyard.

also makes a great centerpiece on the old turkey day table.

just a few more suggestions.

I hope everyone is having a great thanksgiving.

no???

i think it has everything to do with the win.:)

i heard from a friend who knows someone who's friend is a neighbor of one of the janitors at the cintas center and that person said that he heard from one of the lunch ladies at XU that coach miller was using the book during practice. Allegedly he reads straight from the book so......... yeah i don't know if thats true or not but....... who knows.:)

either way .... what a great win for the muskies! hopefully they can keep things going through march.

GREAT BOOK FOR COACHES!!!!!!!!!

how are these coaches doing

lakota east -- 2-9!
villa madonna -- 4-6!
elder -- 8-2 but with a big man like rudolph all you have to do is throw it inside and they still can't beat moeller or x -- great job over there purple nation
and the coach from hughes is a banker somewhere up north in toledo now!

all those coaching tips sure are paying off.
keep up the good work.

nice post.

east may be down this year .... but they're young and will be a great team soon.

villa madonna is 7-7 and in 2nd place in their conference - which isn't great but they are a "much improved" team.

elder is always being hit by the haterade-- it doesn't matter how much you hate any of the GCL schools you have to respect them

and the coach from hughes is one of the best young coaches in the area and will be back on the hardwood someday soon -- if he can get his basketballs out of the jar that sits on the table next to his girlfriends bed.
