Nayfeld/Owens 2007 State Doubles Qualifiers

The doubles team of Senior Leo Nayeld and Sophmore Daniel Owens have a good shot at getting to state this year in doubles. Depending on their draw at sectionals, if they do not play CHCA or IH's better doubles team early, they have a very reasonable path to Columbus. Any thoughts?

Neither of those kids are good dubs players and don't have enough experience in tournaments. Both IH teams will be way better. Shidler of CHCA will play dubs with someone and will be better also. Seven Hills' will probably qualify someone also, they do every year. Plus teams from Summit and CCD will have quality players that compare to the Wyoming team mentioned. And if they get real lucky to get out of that loaded sectional, it will be and abrupt ending at a loaded district.

The district round will not be loaded. The sectional round that we are in is far superior to the other area sectional, and it would be a close match against IH's 2nd doubles team. We cannot beat Shidler/anybody or IH's first doubles, but Nayfeld played doubles last year at sectionals, and Nayfeld/Owens will play together for a farily large part of the season. It is in no way a guarantee, but a very reasonable feat for us to get to Columbus.

shidler wont play doubles guarentee that. seven hills will probably qualify a team but i doubt summit or ccd will.

yea i dunno i hope shidler doesnt. seven hills lost bth of their doubles teams so they have little age. also from what max hennessy told me, ccd has nobody good except for their first singels, and summit definately wont. i think its a possibility

he will play singles because chca has two good players. there is noone to play dubs with him. also i could see strunk and vinod going dubs or strunk devin, vinod devin again for a repeat

Wrong again, i heard that the younger McCarthy wants to play singles since he wrapped up the dubs title last year. Strunk could go either way depending on how he thinks he would fare against labor or fritz. But probably dubs with mahalingam.

what 2nd doubles team is going to beat Nayfeld/Owens? It is a complete underestimation of the abilities of Nayfeld/Owens to assume that Giom/Somebody will easily defeat them. There is a major drop off in talent after Vinod on IH's team, and with two Mccarthy's playing singles and Shilder almost definately playing singles because of a lack of a decent partner, the only unbeatable doubles team for them would be a Mahallingam/Giom or Mahallingam/Strunk combination.

shidler unfortunately definately can play with somebody else. he wont win anything but he wont lose a service game until state and ---- be able to get breaks, unless his parter is TERRIBLE, in which case hed play singles

i played tennis in lexington, ky. I coached high school 10 yrs ago. Played at college in California. Will knoll will play dubs, but finish third or worse in districts behind two St X teams. Strunk beat Ramaswamy two weeks ago, i think he'll do just fine in whatever he plays at state. Nayfeld and Owens will be lucky to get to districts for these reasons. Not tournament tough players( no big wins ever in sectionals), Nayfeld is slow and out of shape, saw him last year at sectionals and isn't fit or quick, owens is decent player but has little mental toughness and neither player looked natural at the net, and the competition in the cincy sectional is very good, its usually the best sectional in the state.

yeah strunk beat swamy but it was close. nayfield and owens good joke. and what other st x team will be ahead of us (not saying we will win districts but just wondering). pretorius and drosick are going dubs. but ryan bandy is injued and their second dubs team isnt the most dominant team. from what some x kids were telling me it would be jay lame and brad sena. they are saying gaffney bandy and swamy will all go singles.

The doubles competitions are not tough. If you saw me at Sectionals last year, you would realize that out of two matches that I played with Planalp were complete jokes, and the match that we lost was against Mccarthy/Mahalingam, in which we barely tried because there was no hope. I am not the fastest person, but I am in more than enough shape to play doubles. Will Knoll, good joke about the whole "no chance" crack. Name me four doubles teams that are for sure playing together and as of now are healthy that are better than myself and Owens.

keep in mind that billy has been hurt and is very rusty and ramaswamy has been studying rather than playing tennis. He will not bring his best stuff until late in the season. Strunk will also be the same way. Dont count on any results you see right now amounting to anything.

I would just like to point out that when Nayfeld and Owens play at State, my cross country teammates and I will be there in blue man-thongs to cheer them on. Thereby demonstrating - by the man-thong property of victory - that Nayfeld and Owens will be State Champions.
