Article from a Stow perspective:

Senior Night Rally Pushes Stow To Win Over Tallmadge

On Senior Night, Stow honored their senior cheerleaders and basketball players, including a special person who has been an integral part of the Stow program for four years - Taylor Huey. Taylor has been the Bulldogs videographer, and has helped the coaching staff tremendously with video footage to disect and analyze for strategic use. The team honored Kyle Bonacci, Cam Close, John DiAntonio, Joe Harrell, Paul Racketa and Doug Underwood, all seniors on this Bulldog squad. All the seniors except Close got the start, and as usual during Stow games, defense ruled. The first quarter wasn't pretty, but as a few Tallmadge supports said "You can blame a lot of it on Stow's defense...they always bring it." The first quarter was eerily similar to Friday's Mayfield game, this time with Stow scoring 5 first period points. Luckily Tallmadge only had 7. Matt Heinl, who played one of his best games of the season, started the second stanza with a 3-point basket, then made an amazing steal on the defensive side and was able to find Paul Racketa for a basket and a 10-7 lead. Stow stretched their lead to 16-7 before the Blue Devils rallied. Patrick Pakan hit a big 3, then followed up with a daring move for a basket, and ended the half with a steal and a bucket to tie the game at 16 at the break. Pakan had 7 points in the half. Steve Bednar nailed a 3-pointer early in the third period to give Stow the lead 19-18, and after a Tallmadge score, John DiAntonio made a great inside pass to Renden Peery for a 21-20 lead. Heinl again struck from 3-point land, then made another stellar steal and found DiAntonio for 2 and Stow's lead went to 26-20. Jonathan Lampley got a hot hand for the Blue Devils and scored 7 straight points, and David Wooldridge gave Tallmadge a 28-26 lead with a big 3-pointer. Pakan scored at the end of the third for a 30-28 Tallmadge lead. Racketa found Peery to get Stow back even to start the final period, but Ed Householder made a runner in the paint followed by a 3-pointer from the corner and Tallmadge was up by 5 with 4 minutes left and the Bulldogs looking tired and lethargic. Racketa converted a pair of free-throws, then again found Peery who went strong to the hoop to cut the lead to 1. Dusty Simcox put Tallmadge up 39-36, but Bednar found the nets for a 3-pointer and the game was tied at 39 with 1:27 remaining. After a series of timeouts, Tallmadge attempted a 3, Stow rebounded and worked the clock for the final shot. Racketa was fouled with 5.5 seconds remaining, made the first free-throw, missed the second, but Close fought for the rebound and passed off the Racketa, who was fouled and made both shots this time around. Bednar ended with 12 points to lead Stow, with Racketa adding 9, Heinl scoring 8, Peery hitting for 6, DiAntonio scoring 5, and Mike Rodgers adding a pair. Racketa pulled down 5 rebounds, with Kyle Bonacci and Nevin Netty added 3 each. Racketa had 5 assists, Heinl had 3 and also had 3 steals. Peery swatted 3 blocked shots and Bonacci added a block as well. Stow has now won 9 of their last 11 games, and assure them selves of a winning record once again. Congratulations to the team and the coaches who refused to let this season go down the tubes after a 1-5 start.

The juniior varsity team, playing short-handed once again, had a stellar night in defeating the Blue Devils 61-48. Tallmadge's JV squad was 17-1 coming in to last night's game. It was all Justin Humphrey early on, then Blake Williams took his turn as Stow pulled even at the half at 32-32. Williams had 13 first half points. The Pups held Tallmadge to 6 third period points while building a 50-38 lead. Nick Vitt ran the offense and had a nice connection with Humphrey, finding the big guy open several times as Stow grabbed a 15 point advantage. When Humphrey needed help Mike Levandowski came through, as did Dave Harry. Kyle Myatt was double teamed most of the game, but Steven Revesz found his way to the hoop and Zack Speer did a nice job at the point as well. Humphrey led the Bulldogs with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists, while Williams ended with 14 points. Both boys had a steal and a block as well. Levandowski added 9 points and 7 rebounds, while Myatt ended with 8 points, Revesz ended with 6 and Vitt added 5. Vitt had 5 assists and a steal as well. The junior varsity end their season at 10-9.
