Top players returning:
For the 2024 season, we have 9 returning Varsity players. Our 2 seniors, Alivia Hilvers and Madison Hoersten, are leaders both on the field and in the classroom. As Team Captains, Liv and Madi lead by example and show-up everyday with a positive attitude and a solid work ethic. I’m excited to see these 2 find their voice on the field this season and am looking forward to the impact plays they both will make. Our returning 6 juniors are the heart and soul of the team. Their dedication to building the program and love for the sport has been prevalent since they walked onto the field as Freshmen. We have challenged them to challenge themselves to be the ones to set this team apart from prior teams. Our returning sophomore is the spirit and energy of the team. She provides encouragement, motivation, and enthusiasm each and every day. These 9 players are solid, united, and have the drive to make this a memorable season.
New impact players:
We have a big team this year, 16 players strong. With this comes 7 new players to the roster, 6 Freshmen and a Junior. Our mound will be occupied by Freshmen pitchers this season. As this will be our position with the least depth of experience, it will not be the position with the least motivation. The Freshmen walked in the door on Day 1 with a hunger to play. They are eager to learn and are also the last ones to leave the field every day. We will see them grow and improve throughout the season because they won’t settle for anything less.
Final Comments:
The team this year is something special. Our Assistant Coach, Ashley (Basinger) Crossgrove, was a former Ottoville Lady Green softball player. She brings with her a passion to make this program stronger. We have an increase in our numbers which is a direct reflection of the commitment to this program that these young ladies are willing to make. They believe in Ottoville softball and they are an inspiration for the younger generations to keep building upon the foundation they are creating. With each game, we will gain experience on the mound and in our own confidence. We aren’t the same team we were last year – we are stronger, we are motivated, and we have a hunger for success. As a team, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain this season.
