First thought after looking at what’s coming back and what I saw from the returnees and seeing some hull tape on kids who weren’t starters ( new staff and 1st year HC ) going to be tough duty with this schedule . 4-6. Ceiling but that may be tough to do (. Winnable games vs. the Country Clubbers and M-Burg could pub them at 2-1 but after that ? Wins won’t come easy at all . The old days of penciling in at least 7-3 but usually better than that are over . Hopefully McVay can brand it his own and after a few years get the program out of the 500 zone and more consistent success .

I’m optimistic because it was correctly determined that the program has dipped to a 500 level program and hiring an energetic promising young coach in his first year as a HC was the right call . Familiarity with the OCC and great respect ( lives here ) for the community (. Stokes didn’t really like it much and commuted ) is a huge plus . There was a time that Coffman football hiring a first time HC was a non starter . But there was probably the idea that hiring a guy who wasn’t going to be more a part of the community would be hired either .

Stokes is a hard working process guy and has had a nice coaching career overall . He didn’t come here at a good time on the program arc if you will . Said this from day one and surmised that he like other excellent coaches taking over prominent programs at the wrong time after long stretches of success may stay for only 3-4 years and be around 500. It happened .

He will be a very successful coach again at some point and I like his style . Talk that he’s the best to ever lead a Dublin football program is ridiculous . Period . But then again that opinion was made by someone who had no clue the run had really ended after 2020 and there was a reason Crabtree left . He wants to believe and have others believe he was forced out .
It’s all personal and when emotion is involved it clouds the judgement . Classic case here . I will say it’s bit sad to see how far the athletic department in general has fallen . I know it’s not all about win loss records but this is a far different period from the days of challenging for the Young best overall athletic program in the OCC . Just in the 6! Team central they aren’t in the top few , never mind OCC at large .
