COLUMBUS WATTERSON 10 VANDALIA BUTLER 3 At Dayton university The Eagles from Columbus Watterson was set to o battle with a injured Lerron Moore who hadn’t practiced all week against The Aviators of Vandalia Butler. Defense would be the names of the game all night long. Both teams would move the ball up and down the field al game long, but only one touchdown would be scored with over 500 yards of offense. John Goldberry of Vandalia Butler would fumbe the ball with 9.39 left in the first, but teammate Adam Hines would reover the ball to keep the drive alive. Later in the drive The Aviators would face 4 and 5, and they would go for it, the Eagles defense would hold when J.J. Koterba would make the first of his many big plays on the night, as he was able to break up the pass. The Aviators would get the ball back as the defense would hold the eagles forcing a punt. Then with 5.03 left in the opening period Mr. Koterba would make his second big play as he intercepted Tyler Koch’s pass. The offense for Watterson again could not do anything as the Aviator’s defense seemed to know what was going to be called before it was ran. Vandalia would work the ball down field getting a shot at a 30 yard field goal, but Mike Niklos got a hand on it causing the kick to be short. The snap was a little high throwing the timing off keeping the game tied at 0, with 10.15 left in the 2nd quarter. The Eagles offense would get another chance with the ball, but Lerron Moore would fumble it, and Vandalia would recover it. The Aviators offense would start the drive with 7.53 left in the half, and end it with a 29 yard fieldgoal by Tyler Koch , with 1.37 left in the half. The Aviators defense again would force a Moore fumble giving there offense great field position at the Eagles 27, with 51 seconds left in the half. Facing yet another 4 and long the Aviators lined up for field goal at the Eagles 24, but they faked it trying a shovel pass by Chris Pelfry to Zach Gueth.The paly did not fool Watterson as it gaines only 5 yards. The score would stay 3-0 going into the 3rd quarter. The 3rd would have plenty of action but on ly 3points, as both teams would take turns turning the ball over.The 1st turnover would come with 9.33 left when The Aviators would fumble. The next turnover would come with 8.51 left as the Eagles would throw a pick.Watterson would make a huge play on 3rd down with 5.35 remaining as the Aviators would go for it on 4 and 13 deep in Eagle territory, but Bryan Sullivan would tackle Brandon Godsey for a 12 yard lost. The Eagles would get on the board tying the score on a 30 yard field goal by Josh Davis with 2.09 left.The quarter would end all tied at 3. The 4th quarter would only see 7 points scored, but like the rest of the game had plenty of action. Butler would face 4th and 5 and get a 1st down on a sweet fake punt has Koch would complete a pass for a big gain keeping the drive alive with 10.39 left in the game. The Aviators would face another 4th down on the same drive this time opting to go for a 36 yard field goal that would fall way short. The next big play would come with 6.36 left in the game when defensive hero Koterba playing running back would make a nice gain he did fumble the ball , but Watterson was able to recover. Good fortune would not be with Watterson as they would fumble the again with 6.07 left and Butler was able to recover it. Not much would happen as both defense refused to cave in, until Mr.Moore would make up for his 2 fumbles with 1.37 left as he would go 39 yards untouched for the game winning touchdown, after the extra point the score board read 10-2 Watterson. Butler refusing to quit threw a Hail Mary with 8 seconds left and the ball was caught by Eric Ham for a 53 yard gain to the Watterson 15,but time would run out as he was tackled. newarkcatholicfan |
