Newcomerstown Wins Again Afternoon football in Malvern turned out a good way to spend a saturday for the Newcomerstown Trojans as they won their 5th straight game. Newcomerstown would take advantage of a early Malvern fumble at it's own 15 yard line and score the games 1st points as Tyler Sellers (so 5'11" 175) would score from 6 yards out. The extra point by Andrew Branch (sr 6'2" 170) made it 7-0 with 6:22 left in the 1st. Newcomerstown would fumble deep inside it's own territory and Malvern would waste no time scoring. Freshamn qb Duston Walter (5'11" 175) would sneak in from a yard out, but the extra point was no good. The score was 7-6 Newcomerstown with 1:13 left in the 1st. 27 points would be scored in the 2nd quarter, but 20 of them was by the trojans. The Trojans would get the scoring started when Chris Bryant (sr 5'9" 155 rb) would score from 1 yard out. Another Branch extra point and with 11:00 left 2nd it was 14-6 Trojans. With 6:55 left in the 2nd a 31 yard touchdown pass to Ben Marlatt (sr 6'2" 175 wr) made it 20-6 as the 2 point try failed. The next 2 drives would end in turnovers. First Tyler Sellers of Newcomerstown would fumble and Malvern would recover at their own 25. On the next play Walter would throw an interception to Andrew Branch. Malvern's special teams would come up big as Chad Irwin (sr 5'8" 170) blocked a punt. The Malvern offense with uncle mo on it's side would score on a long 49 yard run by James Koontz (sr 5'6" 170 rb) who would also add the extra point to make the score 20-13 with 2:38 left in the 2nd. The final score was by Newcomerstown with 26 seconds left in the half and going to the locker room Newcomerstown was in control 27-13. Defense would rule the 2nd half has the only score would be on a 1 yard run by the star of the game Kyle Girton (5'10" 185) who would end the game with over 150 yards rushing and the one td. The extra point would be no good and the final was 33-13 Trojans. Both bands put on an outstanding show as Malvern ended their show with "Rock and Roll All Night" by my favorite group Kiss. Newcomerstown brought the crowd to their feet and tears to a few eyes as they did, "I am Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood. newarkcatholicfan |
