Amanda-Clearcreek defeats Newark Catholic 19-13

On a hot night at a place called the pit in Amanda, Ohio out in the middle of nowhere, there was a hard hitting defesive football game that took place. Two teams battled toe to toe and in the end a terrible call would cost one team, newark catholic a win and give another Amanda-Clearcreek a win.

The game went like this; following a 5 yard punt by Amanda-Clearcreek, the Greenwave of Newark Catholic took over, and with the offense struggling had to settle for a 22 yard field goal by George Biddle. The score 3-0 with 7:09 left in the first.

After the Greenwave defense held Amanda again, the Greenwave took over with Kyle Williamson twisting and turning, getting 2 or 3 yards a carry. They had the ball on the Amanda 3 yard line when Seth Elliott, a 195 pound fullback, lowered his shoulder and scored what would be the only touchdown by Newark Catholic. Biddle kicked the extra point and made the score 10-0 Newark Catholic with 3:55 left in the first quater. That would end the scoring in the quarter.

Neither team could get the offense going until Amanda started a drive that would end with the first of 3 touchdowns for senior running back Thad Helber. Helber would score from 1 yard out with 6:55 left in the half. On the extra point there was a bad snap and Amanda tried to throw for a 2 point conversion that was knocked away by the talented Kyle Williamson. Each team would trade hits as the half came to a end.

Coming out of the half, Amanda had uncle-mo on their side and kept it as Helber took a pitch right from senior quaterback Scott Hinton. Sixty-seven yards later he would stop and look at a stunned Newark Catholic defense. The extra point again was no good and with 9:32 left in the 3rd, Amanda would have it's first lead at 12-10.

On the play before the touchdown, Newark Catholic defensive back Williamson dropped a interception that would have went for six.

The Wave and it's struggling offense would not give up as the line started blocking and Kyle Willianson started looking like the divison 1 (college) running back he is. With the wave ready to cash in senior QB Kevin Dolan funbled the snap, his 3rd fumble of the game. This time though, the luck of the Irish was with the Greenwave as they recovered the fumble. The play was huge becaused it brought 4th and 2 and the Wave called on Biddle to kick the go ahead field goal from 23 yards out. Biddle appered to be as calm as cucumber as he easily kicked the ball thiurgh the uprights. The score 13-12 Newark Catholic with 3:36 left in the game.

Amanda, the two time defending divison 5 champs, would take the ball and drive down field like a knife thourgh hot butter. Then, when all looked lost for the greenwave, a hero on a white horse would appear in the form of senior two way player Adam Amonyard. He would battle with a receiver from Amanda as both would make contact with each other and Amonyard would pick off the ball. As the crowd started to cheer, the official would throw a flag calling pass interference on Amonyard. This would give Amanda the ball and two plays later Helber would send a dagger through the heart of the Greenwave and all of the fans as he scored from five yards out with 50.21 seconds left in the game. After the extra point was kicked the score would go to 19-13 Amanda.

The game would end on another Newark Catholic turnover (their 3rd) this time on an interception.
