Margaretta defeats Milan Edison 18-0

In what was billed up to be the game of the week in the Sandusky Bay Conference, the Margaretta Polar Bears went into Milan and used a tough nosed defense to defeat the Edison Chargers 18-0. The game was special because Edison coach Jim Hall was the defensive coordinator for Margaretta just last season. Defense is what these 2 teams preach and defense is what the crowds got to see. Margaretta(5-0, 2-0) jumped on the board first in the opening quater when quarterback Robby Lewis capped off a 5 play, 36 yard drive with an 11 yard TD run, the extra point failed and the Bears led 6-0. The defenses would stay strong until the 2nd quater when the Bears struck again this time Lewis used his arm tossing a 39 yard TD pass to running back Ben Barnette, the extra point once again failed and the Bears took a 12-0 lead into the locker room.

The 3rd quater started out the same way the 1st quarter did with the defenses dictating the field position. Margaretta would put a dagger in the chest of the Chargers when Ben Barnetter returned a Charger punt 49 yards to the 12 yard line. Margaretta would score when fullback Jon Sessler bulled in from 3 yards out and the Bears lead 18-0. Sessler was the leading ball carrier for the night with 103 yards on 16 carries.

The main story of the night though was the Margaretta defense. They held the Chargers to 19 yards of total offense. Edison finally picked up their first and only 1st down of the game with 6:46 to go in the 4th quarter. The 18-0 win for Margaretta is the 3rd straight shutout recorded by the Bear defense.

Margaretta hopes to continue it's unbeaten record next week in the "Bogart Road Bowl" against Huron while Edison travels to Sandusky St. Mary's Central Catholic.
