Logan Elm combined a stingy defense and a potent running game to defeat the Tigers on a cold and rainy night in Circleville.
The Braves recieved the opening kickoff and didn't waiste any time putting points on the board.After a 4 yard run by senior tailback Nate McGuire,Quarterback Bobby Stevens called his own number around left end and raced 66 yards down the sideline for the score.The extra point kick was no good. Circlevilles first offensive possession was marked by fumbles.The Tigers fumbled twice, the Braves were able to recover the second of those fumbles to take possession at their own 39-yard line. McGuire led the way with a 10-yard run to advance the Braves drive.The play of the drive was Bobby Stevens hitting senior wideout Brandon Eveland streaking down the sideline for a 38-yard reception.Stevens punched it in from 1-yard out on a quarterback sneak off center.A two point conversion run was no good, leaving the score 12-0 Logan Elm after one quarter of play. Logan Elms next scoring drive started from it's own 34-yard line .McGuire picked up 47 yards on the drive and capped it off with a two yard gallop to pay dirt.The conversion was failed.The Braves led 18-0 with 7:54 left in the second quarter and looked poised to runaway with the win. Circleville wouldn't give up without a fight.Late in the second quarter Aaron Palmer was able to block a Logan Elm punt which the Tigers recovered on the Braves 15-yard line. Palmer then connected with Ben Brisker for a 13-yard pass down to the LE 2-yard line.Palmer was able to sneak in for the score on the insuing play.Potter added the point after to leave the score at 18-7 at the half. Defense was the name of the game in the third quarter with every possession resulting in either a three and out or a fumble. The Braves used their pounding running game to cash in on a 1-yard run by McGuire with 6:05 left in the game.The PAT attempt was blocked keeping the final score at 24-7 in favor of the Braves. The story of the game was the Braves ability to run the football.Logan Elm had 71 rushing attempts for 277 yards.The Braves gave up only 94 yards of total offense and 5 first downs. "I thought we won the game up front on the offensive and defensive lines."said Logan Elm coach Rod Smith. "I have to give it to Bobby Stevens he is really the difference maker for that offense.It's not often that your quarterback benches over 350 and just runs over opposing linebackers.He justs gives them that added dimension that really makes them hard to stop." Circleville coach Keith Downing said. With the win the Braves move to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the MSL leaving them at the top of the league standings.Circleville falls to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the MSL.
