Licking Valley defeats Newark Catholic 27-21

Panthers get a great win at a packed house in Hanover, Ohio, home of Licking Valley High School.

Two teams played their hearts out in a game that would take overtime to decide. Licking Valley would get on the board first with a great pass from Micheal Hinger (sr 6'2" 170 qb) and catch by Corby Baughman (sr 5'10" 165) that would cover 63 yards. After the extra point by Brandon Haynes (sr 170 kicker), the Panthers led the Greenwave 7-0 with 4:14 left in the 1st quarter.

The Greenwave would answer with 11:55 left in the 2nd as Kyle "The Show" Williams plowed in from 2 yards out completing a 12 play 74 yard drive. The kick was blocked and the Panthers held onto a one point lead, 7-6.

Valley would get another touchdown as all everything Hinger would score from 1 yard out completing a fine 11 play 80 yard drive. The extra point again was good and just like that Valley had a 14-6 lead with 7:05 remaing in the half.

The Greenwave and sr qb Kevin Dolan would answer in a big way with a long 52 yard td pass to senior speedster Adam Amornyard but a 2 point conversion was no good and Valley would lead 14-12 with 5:51 in the half.

Valley would score on a great run by Hinger, aided by a early whistle that made several Greenwave players hesitate for a second, another extra point and valley had 21-12 lead.

The Dolan to Amornyard connection would strike again this time for a 40 yard td pass, but again the extra point was no good and the Wave trailed 21-18.

Newark Catholic, refusing to let an early whistle or other bad elements keep them down, would tie the game up when junior kicker George Biddle 6'3" 170 would hit a 27 yard field goal and with 37 seconds left the game was tied and headed to overtime.

Valley would win the toss and would let Newark Catholic go on offense. Newark Catholic would go 19 yards like a knife thourgh hot butter and on 1st and goal from the one all in the world seemed right. Newark Catholic would have all-state running back Kyle Williams run 3 times but Licking Valley showed what a great team they have when they did not let Williams enter the endzone.

Valley would run thourgh the Wave for an easy score as senior tailback Casey Brehm (5'11" 195) scored from 7 yards out to win the game, 27-21
